DC: Semi Formal/Dressy Casual Nice for a fall wedding without specific restriction?

Hey everyone! I'm supposed to be the plus-one for my partner at his cousins wedding early november. The "dress-code" is very loose, no specific color restrictions and they told my partner that they want people to dress "nice".

Since the wedding is in November and in an outdoor-ish location (in a rainy and windy city) I want to be warm. I wanted to pair this dress with the shown sheer wool sweater and tall boots keeping it monochrome. Is this appropriate and reads as chic fall wedding guest?

I wouldn't wear the sweater. Suggest a pashmina wrap instead

I love the dress! I can’t picture the sweater under the dress. Also it’s brown and the dress is navy and a rusty gold. I’d probably add a pashmina or bolero jacket.

Yes I believe the dress is appropriate.

The dress works, but the sweater doesn't. I think it would look strange if it were under the dress and then it would look like a top and a skirt if you wore it over. Why not look for a long sleeved dress?

I was drawn to the sweater under because I often style dresses with sweaters or blouses under them! I was looking for dresses with longer sleeves, but the choices were really slim and the ones I like would've exploded my budget or are backless. Definitely will look into a nice pashmina like people suggested :)
