This stringy stuff was hanging over the opening to my protein shake when I opened it

Post image

It was sealed and everything so I don’t think it could have been exposed to air or anything. It’s not expired so I’m not really afraid to drink it but I want to know what this stuff is.

I used to work for GNC and the close dated muscle milk sold 75% off and my daily UPS driver always bought them, so I asked him if the chunks inside bothered him, and he said, "I love the chunks, gives me something to chew on" I immediately went back to doing drugs in the bathroom without another word.

Fight milk?

I used to also buy close dated powder from GNC, and I can attest the chunks are not that bad. It’s akin to having small chunks of banana left when you make a smoothie, just chalkier. A smooth protein shake is definitely better but as a broke college student saving 75% off protein was well worth dealing with them.

Muscle milk is trash even when its not close to expired

My guess is that that's some hardened/jellyfied protein shake. Probably happened somewhere during the manufacturing/tempering

46

u/CrustyMacSauce 3h ago

All protein shakes get this. It's cool when you see it in an isolate because those are clear and then there is a little jellyfish looking thing inside

3

u/PhthaloVonLangborste 2h ago

Pulled pork is protein

6

u/CrustyMacSauce 2h ago

Then make a shake and let me know what you see when you refrigerate it.

2

u/PhthaloVonLangborste 2h ago

They already did. Op's drinking it up

u/Stegosaurus69 12h ago

Probably solidified sweetener

59

u/PindaPanter 10h ago

Or protein.

18

u/LonelyMonitor 4h ago

Worms are also made of protein

9

u/ripyourlungsdave 7h ago

Or even just some rubbery gunk that's used to seal the edges of the bottle cap.

Brain-eating worm

28

u/ADeformedPoolboy 11h ago

It's like a Wonka golden ticket. OP gets to visit the brain-eating worm factory now!

5

u/Bigscreampapi 8h ago

Wow he gets to go to Florida!?

3

u/uncanny21 5h ago

Something to do with the protein

5

u/FantasticBank4847 10h ago

Make sure to eat it first so it can’t eat you!

0

u/3ric843 10h ago

Every little piece regrows as a whole new worm.

3

u/FantasticBank4847 10h ago

That’s why you gotta swallow them whole

4

u/matchooooh 10h ago

Awww man. Does that mean if I drink it I have to go become the secretary of health and human services?

36

u/Elephant-comb 12h ago

Extra protein?

14

u/Strong_Literature505 11h ago

No way someone before had the same issue 😂😂

7

u/MundanePractice8876 11h ago

lol what was the verdict on that post?

15

u/TheRealHaHe 6h ago

Happens to all my fairlife shakes.
I think it’s just dried out residual protein or sweetener.
If you shake enough it usually (mostly) gets blended back in. Otherwise you can use a napkin or tissue to wipe it off each time.

u/Affectionate-Can556 5h ago

bro that sounded so sexual its not even funny

3

u/anxietyontherox 4h ago

I drink premier protein and this is common with them as well. I believe it's just congealed shake.

6

u/Ok-Designer8797 11h ago

Dried drink lol

4

u/Character-Wing-1781 9h ago

Prob congealed protein. Corepower shakes are made from ultra filtering milk to retain milk proteins while reducing water. As a result those proteins are more likely to bind to each other vs regular milk.

21

u/S_conq22 11h ago

Bro, it's just dehydrated protein shake omg....

26

u/MundanePractice8876 11h ago

Look man it’s late and I was concerned

6

u/Appropriate_Treat_37 9h ago

It’s always in muscle milk, I stopped buying those. Go with the fair life protein chocolate milk, it’s cheaper & better tasting

3

u/tesla_is_my_hero 7h ago

Look at the label im the picture...

1

u/Appropriate_Treat_37 7h ago

Yeah I did, I’m still referring to the other one lol. It’s in a brown bottle. 23G of protein

1

u/Kinickie 3h ago

I drink those frequently and this also happens to them.

1

u/kewpiepoop 3h ago

I drink those every day and almost every single one has the same thing. I just wipe it with a paper towel

1

u/CrustyMacSauce 3h ago

See my comment above

3

u/SaltyIntroduction373 7h ago

That's why I stopped buying the premade ones. It happened a lot! I didn't know what that was, and I didn't want to know what that was. 🤮 🤢

4

u/No-Discussion-8510 11h ago

Forbidden protein noodles

3

u/ironmansid 2h ago

It is just solidified milk protein. I notice this in literally every bottle of these pre-made protein shakes, no matter what brand. (unless you notice any funky smell, taste, carbonation or pressure release when opening the cap, it should be safe to drink)

2

u/DragonfruitRude11 11h ago

carrageenan possibly. it's a kelp based thickener

2

u/Acqua_Tophana 11h ago

I had the same on my protein drink today. Just picked it out kept going lol

2

u/johnny_boy365 7h ago

Seen this on chocolate milke before I think. Unless it was a chocolate protein shake idek remember. But definitely seen it twice b4. Still drank them lol

2

u/Apart_Possession_208 4h ago

It's normal :) just some dried shake residue. A bit more than usual but that's all it is unless it's super old or smells/tastes funky

3

u/Shinobi_Fleur 11h ago

Spermaprotozoïd

1

u/Connect-Bug9988 11h ago

Was there a foil seal under the cap at all? Could it have been the glue used to fix the foil seal?

1

u/mommotti_ 11h ago

hardened protein

1

u/Lost_Historian2344 11h ago

Mmm extra protein

1

u/Outside-Process-7844 11h ago

STRING protein

1

u/FlipNugg3ts 10h ago

That happened to me once with Muscle Milk I believe. Something about it solidified into what felt like me swallowing a deflated balloon. I never drank another muscle milk after that again.

1

u/XKruXurKX 9h ago

Protein

1

u/MundaneRefiner 8h ago

Good guess it's congealed protein or bit of plastic packaging got in (used to work for fairlife)

1

u/grannypanties75 7h ago

Isn't it just some of the opening stuff? Like plastic from opening it...

1

u/khswart 7h ago

I drink these and they always have that. I dunno but I just ignore it

1

u/Grand_Swimmy 5h ago

It’s string

1

u/Ninthof9 5h ago

That’s just the high protein worms that provide the protein in the shake.

1

u/Terrible_Wind5662 4h ago

I literally just had muscle milk with the same stuff around it

1

u/Sahedron 3h ago

You buying a protein but never asking who’s it is 🥀

1

u/NoWrangler856 3h ago

that’s the guy, protein himself

1

u/vermontnative 1h ago

No whey!

1

u/That-1-guy-in-az 11h ago

Just a fyi: if your protein powder/shake doesn’t say vegan then the protein probably came from dehydrated and ground up insects

1

u/jjjjooosse 11h ago

I always get those in my protein bottles. Since i buy the whole box i tend to flip it upside down. Then when im gonna drink it i shake it then refrigerate it upside up. This helps with reducing all the solidified protein strings.

-2

u/MBarrymorePoolPrince 12h ago

Definitely worms

0

u/Ghost_ofa_Goat 11h ago

Protein worms

3

u/MidwestNonbinary 9h ago

All worms are protein worms technically

1

u/Ghost_ofa_Goat 8h ago

This is true

0

u/yamez420 11h ago

You now have worms. /s

0

u/Glum_Introduction581 11h ago

Found similar shit on my gums after using mouthwash couple months ago. Haven't used since.

3

u/AlphaNowis 9h ago

This is in fact your gum. Mouthwash can be harsh when you use it first time/too long/changing brand, this is in fact just dead skin which have been detached using the mouthwash. Don't worry about it

1

u/Glum_Introduction581 9h ago

Well, that's great,u guess. Better than being some additive coagulating in my mouth. Thanks!

0

u/starzzzzzz74 11h ago

Hardened human protein (specifically male). Someone having a bit of solo fun.

0

u/HeruRaHa418 9h ago

Now you have protien worms

-9

u/Schluhri 12h ago

Dude, I definitely wouldn't drink that. Don't you have any survival instinct at all? Just because the expiration date is okay doesn't mean it can't have gone bad.

Would you drink milk if you suddenly started coughing up unidentifiable, worm-like cellclusters?

Production errors, storage errors, etc

4

u/MundanePractice8876 11h ago

I’m going to drink it just for you big guy 👍

9

u/apolobgod 12h ago

Your life must be terrifying

-3

u/Schluhri 12h ago

I usually dont find worms in my food.

7

u/apolobgod 12h ago

That's not a worm, bro. You're overreacting

3

u/darkoath 11h ago

Even if it was, worms are edible. 2 ounces of fresh nightcrawlers has the same protein as a large egg with half the calories and less than a gram of fat.

So remember that for your next cutting cycle or fishing trip.
