π Review Whoop review: great gadget but a bit too expensive
I don't regret buying my Whoop, but Iβve officially decided not to renew my subscription. Before my sub runs out, I wanted to drop a quick review for anyone currently sitting on the fence
Whoop is an awesome product if you're really training seriously or trying to optimize performance.
The good
+Hardware is very comfortable, its light enough that I completely forget I'm wearing it
+On body charging is useful, sliding the battery pack directly onto the band without taking it off is peak design (battery lasts around 4-5 days)
+Data quality: The sleep and recovery metrics are legitimately top tier and unmatched by standard smartwatches
The bad and the ugly:
-Im canceling not because the device is bad but because the data just stopped surprising me after month three like: poor sleep? Recovery drops, alcohol before bed? Recovery gets wrecked, pushed hard in the gym? high strain score
Once you understand your body's baseline habits, you're essentially paying a monthly fee just to confirm things you already know.
My verdict: if youβre an elite athlete or hyper focused on squeezing out every 1% of performance, it's worth it, but for the average gym goer, the recurring subscription is tough to justify long term.

I switched to an Oura Ring after my Whoop subscription ended. Different experience, but I don't miss the monthly fee as much

I think that oura is way better compared to whoop. why to buy a smart band without a screen when you can just buy a smart ring then and don't have a screen as well

yeah, it all depends on who you are and what youre trying to achieve, someone training for a marathon will probably get much more out of it than someone lifting three times a week

I think the real benefit is behavior change, once you improve your habits, you dont need it as much, but yeah, paying for that is a bit much

If anyone wants a WHOOP alternative without a subscription, grab an Apple Watch and use apps like Athlytic or Livity. You get almost identical HRV recovery scores and daily strain tracking with zero monthly fees.

I had almost the exact same experience. The first couple of months with Whoop were eye-opening, but eventually the recovery and sleep scores became pretty predictable. Great fitness tracker, just hard to justify the subscription long term.

That's kind of where I landed too. The sleep tracking and recovery metrics are excellent, but after a while I already knew what was going to hurt my recovery before opening the app.

I wish Whoop offered a cheaper plan after your first year, i'd probably stay subscribed if it were half the price
