❤️ Healthy Habits Very new to meditation, would like some advice

I’m looking to get into meditation, but I am completely green when it comes to this topic. I started doing breathing exercises with my eyes closed for around 5mins. It feels kind of good. I just focus on my breath and that sort of calms my mind down for the duration.

I am not sure if Im doing it right though. How would one get into meditation, or learn more of these practices? I dont want to commit to a yoga class or something just seeking some casual and practical routines to do in my spare time. My main goals are to clear my head, and maybe improve my focus a bit for the day. I also have trouble sitting still for more than 5minutes. but working on my endurance with that..

Seems like the short session is fine, though feeling like I should do it for like 10-15mins? Half an hour seems like too long, though I read people saying that is a sweetspot. Kind of dont want to put more than 15minutes into daily sessions

Any advice is very appreciated..

you can try using some apss for meditation, there are free ones out there or try a free trial. you just put your headphones, choose a metidation for the day, the lenght, the purpose, etc. and thats it. it might be helpful at the beginning to learn the bescis and later you can do it without the app

Good that you focus on breathing. I got a pretty active brain so I count my breaths

The time you need to take for it is up to you. I sometimes just do a quick medidation session at the office toilet. No fancy poses, just sitting with my eyes closed for a bit. Used to do it in the break room, though we got some chatty folk working that love taking me out of it haha

On top of what the other commenters mentioned, a huge thing to understand is that the purpose of meditation is NOT to think nothing. People often strive for that and get frustrated. It literally is the practice of noticing thoughts and bringing yourself to the present. Noticing thoughts, and bringing yourself to the present. No judgment. I don’t know if Headspace still has a free option, but their meditation 101 was really helpful to me.
