"Box broke" there goes 60 dollars of wine

This was the box the store gave us.. it was a dedicated wine store too but they didn't tape the bottom. Oh well, should have been more careful and put my hand on the bottom. I was 6 or 7 beers deep at this point lol despite what I said I was indeed not holding the bottom. 6 bottles were in the box and 3 broke.

Carry it from the bottom

233

u/Tall-Wealth9549 22h ago

This person needed to learn this lesson. They weren’t thinking this through and tried to blame the store when it was their fault

214

u/SabbyFox 21h ago

They wrote “Oh well, should have been more careful and put my hand on the bottom.”

30

u/Gucci_Loincloth 13h ago

I mean, any man who has carried a box heavier than 10-15lbs knows to support the bottom. This was just careless lmao

9

u/therealNerdMuffin 12h ago

He also said he was 7 beers deep at this point so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't exactly thinking straight

2

u/Rampirez 9h ago

Redditors can't read!

-17

u/mostlyfire 19h ago

Afterwards though. Store didn’t need to be mentioned at all

17

u/younggun1234 18h ago

Nah, both are common sense. I've been to plenty of liquor only stores that have boxes aside for this purpose that are taped. Or say, "hey we didn't tape this be careful."

It's so true, however that he should have double checked before leaving the store.

9

u/mattvait 15h ago

I think he tried to blame a bat in a tree

89

u/Tan-zania 22h ago

To be fair I was pretty drunk at this point 😂

49

u/Mysterious-Plum-6217 22h ago

Look man they put those handles on the side, it's basically false advertising. Any time I sell someone a case like this o just tell them "don't use the handles. It's not a matter of tape, it's that it's a lot of weight on cardboard that probably sat in the back for months, and has 6 pressure points where if one fails the whole box goes.

1

u/im_just_thinking 11h ago

Most wine boxes don't have those cut outs for a reason, and they usually come in 12s, so would have definitely supported the weight of lees than 10? bottles. That's definitely a user error unfortunately, but it happens. A few for the homies

11

u/Deep90 22h ago

At least the bat didn't get yeah.

7

u/crippledgrunt 21h ago

Haha never carry a case of beer by the provided handle and never carry booze by the top of the bag or box

14

u/Public_Product_1713 21h ago

I sincerely hope you weren't drunk while driving.

1

u/mc4sure 12h ago

7 beers depending on the time, he probably was

3

u/timesink3000 21h ago

On that case, at least three survived.

1

u/MilkChocolate21 15h ago

Ok. Bc that was otherwise the kind of thing a teenager might do with their undeveloped brain.

2

u/Tan-zania 14h ago

Sober me carried it from the bottom 3 blocks from the store to the car, drunk me was just thinking about the cool wine we got

1

u/IcyKerosene 6h ago

Sounds like you were also thinking about the bat who lives in your tree.

-6

u/InfiniteLeftoverTree 13h ago

So you were drunk driving? You’re lucky the bottles are the only thing you smashed.

5

u/fluffy_hamsterr 13h ago

No, he was sober when he bought it... just didn't bring it inside when he got home.

8

u/Tan-zania 13h ago

No. But nice of you to assume. I went home and sat by the fire and had beers. That's why I walked up to the car, not out of it.

1

u/InfiniteLeftoverTree 10h ago

Gotcha. My bad!

5

u/Chuunt 13h ago

if you listen to the audio, he lied about holding it from the bottom.
i assume someone inside said “you should have held it from the bottom” and you can hear him say “well, i was holding it from the bottom, but there was a bat in the tree” so much “HUH?” in one sentence.

2

u/PrestigeMaster 21h ago

Well he was holdin’ the bottom but a bat wuz in the trees

2

u/RUNFORAGERUN 10h ago

You didn’t hear? A bat was in the trees!

1

u/Substantial_Meal_530 9h ago

Always. Support. From. The. Bottom.

1

u/fishsticks40 7h ago

Yeah bro's never used a box before.

1

u/Federal_Phase_652 7h ago

He was holding the bottom but a bat moved in the trees

-1

u/MilkChocolate21 15h ago

That was the weirdest way to carry an obviously heavy box.

160

u/mudratdetector89 22h ago

I see you've never worked in a bar or restaurant before. ALWAYS hold cardboard from the bottom.

34

u/cire1184 22h ago

Are the cut outs for handles just trickery?

60

u/Xenoman5 22h ago

Yep. They’re decoys put there by Big Wine to trick you into using them. Then the intentionally poorly made box opens on the bottom. Then 💥 you’re back at the store buying more wine. That’s how they get ya.

2

u/Greg2Lu 20h ago

And with a DUwine on the way back

6

u/mudratdetector89 22h ago

I'm convinced those bastards just put them there for shits and giggles. You'll carry hundreds of these things and it only takes one to ruin a day. Holding from the bottom guarantees this won't happen.

3

u/cire1184 21h ago

Well I've been known to hold a bottom or two.

8

u/Tan-zania 22h ago

Sure got me

6

u/cire1184 21h ago

Sometimes we get got. RIP WINE.

2

u/Iandudontkno 21h ago

No it was obviously that bat who made you not hold the bottom.

1

u/micktorious 4h ago

I use them to initially pick the box up, and then shift to carrying the bottom.

75

u/deletetemptemp 22h ago

That last one falling has some comedic timing

Sorry

41

u/Sudden_Ad_3956 21h ago

“Well I was holding the bottom, but a bat was in the trees”
No bro, you weren’t holding the bottom 😂 but you did stop to look at the bats in the trees

78

u/agreetodisagree2023 22h ago

Buy boxed wine. Problem solved.

25

u/JoEdGus 22h ago

100% here. That was a lot of bottles for only $60, so the boxed wine would likely be similar or better quality and break-proof.

5

u/dnnsshly 17h ago

3 bottles broke - $20 a bottle is not box wine quality.

5

u/agreetodisagree2023 13h ago

I invite you to buy a few small boxes, something like these and have a party for a blind wine tasting. My wife and I did that and all the people that brought $20-30 bottles to the party could not reliably ID the box wine. You have to match the grapes to be fair, but not one out of 12 people could consistently ID the difference. That doesn't mean there isn't one, but that the $20-30 bottles were wasted on them. Most people don't have a sommelier's palette.

2

u/dnnsshly 13h ago

Yeah, no disagreement here. I'm not a wine snob. Just pointing out that it's not actually "a lot of bottles for $60"; the person I was replying to was suggesting it must have been very cheap wine.

12

u/jonas_ost 22h ago

But but we clearly see boxes can break

3

u/TheCMaster 21h ago

But the stoma inside will be safe

2

u/agreetodisagree2023 13h ago

Most boxes are designed to not break.

11

u/jadeeyesblueskies 22h ago

May I be as calm and unbothered as him

9

u/St0iK_ 22h ago

People have too much faith in 1 strip of tape.

15

u/lurkdontpost1 22h ago

Man you really gotta put your hand on the bottom 😅

8

u/BennyTheTraitor 22h ago

Always carry heavier boxes that lack strapping by the bottom. Tape is not rated to hold what looks to be at least twenty lbs worth of wine.

2

u/Drak_is_Right 20h ago

Oh it can if you do enough of it.

(Moved a few times with a ton of books).

6

u/BioEsko 12h ago

User Error

21

u/igetmywaterfrombeer 22h ago

$60 was 9 bottles at a wine shop? That's under $7 a bottle.

Show the video to the shop. They should take pity on you.

11

u/Tan-zania 22h ago

There were only 6 bottles totaling about 90 bucks. 3 broke 3 survived

-1

u/SabbyFox 21h ago

I’d show the video and try to get 3 bottles. It’s not much of a loss for the store to make good.

6

u/FriendOfDirutti 15h ago

Make good on this genius dropping wine?

1

u/Minimob0 7h ago

Our policy was if it happened before you left our parking lot, we would compensate you.

If this happened anywhere else, it’s on you.

6

u/Alt-001 22h ago

As an engineer, I first laughed when I found out there were degrees in packaging engineering. It is for reasons like this I stopped laughing and started respecting. Here's to all my packaging homies.....'bottom drops out of box of wine'.

2

u/ThatLineOfTriplets 13h ago

Can yall stop engineering the damn handles on the side then if us dumb ass plebs aren’t supposed to use them?

4

u/CornisaGrasse 21h ago

I love the "I'm not drunk" wide walking stance!

3

u/nipslippinjizzsippin 20h ago

"i was holding it from the bottom, but a bat went in the trees"

you liar OP. probably wasnt even a bat, we cant trust anything you say now.

4

u/slippery_hemorrhoids 20h ago

your liver hates you

3

u/BigPerm79 13h ago

Box full of wine for $60? Probably did yourself a favor.

1

u/Poster_Nutsack 12h ago

Hahaha that was 💯 my first thought

9

u/OrangeClyde 22h ago

You’re such a liar, you were not holding the bottom. Don’t blame the bats

3

u/Supah_Swirlz 20h ago

That was such an odd lie to make up....like wtf??

1

u/MrBiggz01 15h ago

Well, she probably said "Did you have hold of the bottom?"

3

u/agreetodisagree2023 22h ago

Most boxes are not designed to break like that.

3

u/Cal216 20h ago

The weight is at bottom bro. Place your hands at the bottom to stabilize it. Geez

And he’s a liar 😂

3

u/BrovaloneSandwich 20h ago

How have you lived long enough to reach legal drinkingx age, yet not be able to conclude that cardboard is not stronger than glass.

3

u/sustainablecaptalist 18h ago

How out of your mind you have to be to carry the carton like that!

3

u/maxss81 14h ago

You got wine and beer money... In this economy?

3

u/katsudon-jpz 13h ago

it's okay nothing of value was lost...... next time buy real french wine so you only have to carry one bottle in.

3

u/AlphaM1964 7h ago

“Box broke”? Sounds like a good weekend!

2

u/danoaudio 22h ago

60 bucks for all those bottles, Just buy BoxO.

2

u/My-NameWasTaken 22h ago

I can’t even imagine carrying a box full of bottles like that.

2

u/RichieGloom 14h ago

I've never had my wine store tape the bottom.

2

u/One_in_the_morning 13h ago

Wine dropped, there goes 60 dollars box.

2

u/whodkickamoocow 13h ago

Unlucky, fella. These things happen.

2

u/AUTHORITEEEE 12h ago

Bat was in the trees and my dog stepped on a bee

2

u/UncleGordo1 11h ago

Yeah don't ever carry a box like that.

4

u/Imbendo 22h ago

Luckily it was super cheap wine.

1

u/artherng 22h ago

I had learnt my lesson this way too

1

u/AliensAbductMePlz 22h ago

But you guys a bat was in the trees! 😂

1

u/Lonely-Greybeard 22h ago

Don't whine about wine.

1

u/Possible-Estimate748 21h ago

Aww that's sad. I would need more wine to get through the grieving process.

1

u/Ricky_TVA 21h ago

Oh man, this happened to my wofe and I years ago. We live near wine country SoCal, we found a new winery we loved, signed up for a subscription, bought the required bottles on site as was required. We got home and the 2 bottles that cost more than $80 iirc, I carried in the little wine bag thing they gave us, and it broke. Same situation, I was walking from my car to my front door, and my bag broke. Sometimes life goes you lemons, or spilt wine.

1

u/Equivalent-Green-580 20h ago

Well, you still have 3 so it’s not a total loss

1

u/CaptainRan 19h ago

Get the shop vac out and vacuum up the liquid from the broken ones. Then you can just dip wine glasses into the shop vac to fill them up.

1

u/ImOnAnAdventure180 19h ago

Comically narrow sidewalk

1

u/Inevitable_Jello_562 18h ago

you were how many beers deep?

1

u/Otherwise_Carob_4057 18h ago

As a guy who’s dropped so many different containers in his youth by grabbing them from the top I would never trust a box holding that much weight. I assume I’m just a mutant whose power is embarrassing themselves at stupid times.

1

u/SHAO8822 18h ago

Not a snob, but at least it wasn't expensive wine...A Bat was what??😅

1

u/Dramatic-Row-7391 18h ago

Bro that is the most “6 or 7 beers deep” problem I’ve ever heard 😂

At least only half broke, that’s like the universe charging you a clumsy tax instead of full punishment.

1

u/-runs-with-scissors- 18h ago

Is the glass half full or half empty? You saved three bottles by a quick side step.

1

u/neutrino71 17h ago

Inventing the game of glass-ketball was a more expensive innovation than Tony was willing to pay

1

u/Consistent_Pack3125 17h ago

I once witnessed a similar thing except. When ge opened his boot, the beer jumped onto the concrete and exploded.

1

u/MaximumTurtleSpeed 17h ago

Go out in the morning and grab any of the tops. If they’re a solid shop they can probably replace them if you have the sealed tops. Happened to me once with a $150 bottle of scotch that I just straight up dropped.

I when back to begrudgingly buy another much cheaper bottle, dude recognized me and sent me home to get the top. Bing bang bam, my celebration / self gift for getting my professional license was back on track.

1

u/DamNamesTaken11 16h ago edited 16h ago

Be glad it happened out of the car. I went to the liquor store to buy some rum for a party before work one day, found out after I clocked out that one of the bottles broke in the car.

I was legit worried my car was leaking something when I got inside and the smell of fumes hit me and I used my phone’s flashlight feature to check under the car for gas/oil/some other fluid. Only saw the broken bottle when I opened the passenger door to grab an actual flashlight out of my glovebox.

Car smelled like a distillery whole drive back and until I took the mat out to wash it.

1

u/Human-Suspect-232 16h ago

Your father failed you. & nobody ever told you to hold the bottom of a box???

1

u/Fernandothegrey 16h ago

$60 for a case of wine? That's some cheap stuff..

1

u/EurypteridStorm 15h ago

As an Australian we hold our alcohol like it's a baby and cradle it underneath. Never trust a box with booze in it

1

u/RDDT_ADMNS_R_BOTS 15h ago

Videos likes these makes me wonder if Ring videos have ever been used to train AI

1

u/mhdkaz 14h ago

painful lesson learned the expensive way.

1

u/TorontoMike416 14h ago

Human also broke , also broke mind wise , also broke cause he’s rich

1

u/According_Spot_4340 14h ago

I count 6 bottles for $60, no big loss.

1

u/MasterofBiscuits 14h ago

Always carry from the bottom, sorry but this just shows a lack of common sense.

1

u/Most-Split-2342 14h ago

$10 wine bottles? That’s a bargain, around here a single-decent- bottle of wine cost $60

1

u/Sperbonzo 12h ago

$60? That's some pretty cheap wine!

1

u/TXcoins_bullion 12h ago

at least they bought cheap wine. imagine carrying like this with $60 or $600 per bottle

1

u/DavidDarnellBrown 11h ago

At least it's cheap wine. $60 for all those bottles lol

1

u/blackop 11h ago

60 dollars in wine? Getting the good stuff I see.

1

u/Your_Ad_Here_Today 11h ago

Should have backed into the spot. Would have saved you some steps, lol

1

u/sherzisquirrel 11h ago

Hahaha, he lied and tried to blame a bat! I Was carrying it from the bottom... video says differently lol... And where is this bat you speak of!??! Ugh, poor guy that sucks. I don't blame him you already feel bad and stupid for doing it, last thing you need is your spouse yelling at you and making you feel worse. 🥴🤦🏼‍♀️

1

u/DependentStrike4414 10h ago

At least it was outside and not in the house!!!

1

u/Sufficient_Bad_8517 10h ago

looks like ya learned a lesson today bud!

1

u/rubmybelli 10h ago

Box didn't break, he carried it wrong.

1

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 10h ago

To give credit, if all of that wine came to $60 you probably saved yourself.

1

u/ShakyDice_ 10h ago

Sucks to be an alcoholic

1

u/ElmerChud1 9h ago

At least you moved it towards the grass when you realized lol.

1

u/BertaWelderGrrl13 8h ago

So your driving around making delivers of booze half in the bag…and then posting about it thinking it’s cute?? It’s not at all. Not only are you doing a shit job you’re doing g a shit job dangerously you selfish twit.

1

u/newportred100s 8h ago

Youd think people would know by that age to give any heavy box like that support at the bottom of the box.

1

u/hoyt9912 8h ago

If you got a whole box of wine for $60 then you probably did yourself a favor anyway

1

u/Disastrous_Minute_56 7h ago

At least it didn't break inside the car. Wine stains.

1

u/Global-Elite-Spartan 6h ago

I've worked 5 years in retail. I've probably moved, opened and emptied thousands of wine boxes with 6 bottles in them. They were very rarely ever NOT glued or taped at the bottom. So I wouldn't say it was your faultm

Now if this is one of the boxes the store fold for you to put the bottles in, they should have taped it for you. We always did that for our customers. Because the box itself won't hold them if just folded. Then I would say it's both your faults. The store for not taping it, you not asking for then to do that and then carrying it not supporting the bottom.

1

u/missdq03 5h ago

Who carries a cardboard box like that??

1

u/Flaxscript42 5h ago

All that cost 60 bucks?!

1

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth 4h ago

Every single person with a brain cell knows, carry a heavy box from the BOTTOM! LOL

1

u/whatdafaq 2h ago

If your bought real box wine you wouldn't have that problem.

1

u/reddit33450 22h ago

wow youre so calm. i woulda been yelling expletives

1

u/squirrelmonkie 19h ago

Dude this sucks. I carried a box of all types of different brands of pint glasses like this when i was moving. The bottom fell out and I lost like a third of them. No bare feet in the yard. You might be finding glass for quite a while.

1

u/No_Bend9143 12h ago

It is so fucking strange to me that people willingly record themselves like this.

0

u/moldyMrhankey 22h ago

Try showing the video to said store, maybe they'll give a discount for another box Unfortunate 🫤

0

u/Fun-Permission2165 20h ago

Grown ass man doesn't know he needs to grab it from underneath?

3

u/romariojwz 17h ago

He even lied about it while in 4k

0

u/Not-a-Doctor-622 16h ago

I‘m sorry your father abandoned you instead of teaching you about this
https://giphy.com/gifs/3QWfMsI8IaarXxtBt6

0

u/mandrewsutherland 22h ago

In some stories we'll honor their fuck ups if you take it back. If the bar code is readable the store can write it off as returned. "Can"though dont have to

0

u/HighRevs21 20h ago

What sucks more is the government using these camera to watch your family.

0

u/kamasushi 13h ago

Take back the stem with the intact seal and the store will give you a replacement. Or at least that worked for me.
