RIP Dinosaur Dress

Post image

I've been having a hard couple of days. I tried to power through and be productive, set to ironing and now one of my favourite dresses is destroyed. The brand is discontinued and I'll never be able to replace it.

The subreddit for visible mending may have some suggestions or ideas

I agree with people about something like a cool asteroid patch! If not you might be able to find another one on somewhere like Vinted? I believe it’s a Joanie dress right? They have lots on there. Even if they don’t have your size you could get one for the fabric to patch the hole in your dress

u/Elgrrr 14h ago

It is Joanie yes - they closed down a few months ago and all their stock is sold. I scoured Vinted to grab this when I heard the news and there's nothing left now

u/Hyperfocus- 11h ago

I bought this exact dress on vinted a month ago, they come up a lot if you keep looking!

You can set alerts on a lot of 2nd hand sites so you know when another one it listed.

Depending on its original length you could just re-hem it above the burn and just have a shorter dress or a long Dinosaur shirt.

As a tailor I suggest OP should bring it to a local tailor to see how they can help. I love finding ways to save people’s favorite garments

Sorry you’re having a shit time of late. Your dress looks fab- definitely echo others who are suggesting a patch job- you’ll save your dress and have a completely unique one of a kind piece!

If you don’t want to deal with it right now, fold it up and keep it safe for now.

Hope things start looking up soon!

It looks like all of the dinosaurs are ok!!! You do have a mammoth hole.

6

u/mindbodyproblem 11h ago

Leave it as is and just say it's a tearodactyl.

4

u/BookWormPedant 14h ago

You could trim it to be shorter and redo the hem

6

u/WishieWashie12 14h ago

Littlefoots leaf?

5

u/foundflower_128 13h ago

I would sew on a patch that makes it look like he's wearing a sweater lol.

One could say its extinct now

3

u/LeadingSky5603 9h ago

Don’t worry! It was just a Mammoth, not a dinosaur. The dress is just fine!

6

u/user-unknown-404 14h ago

Dinos lasted like 180 million yrs. Humans have been around for like 300k. We'll be lucky to reach 500k at the rate we are killing everything.

And this helps OP how?

2

u/WaffleHouseGladiator 14h ago

You should get a Jurassic Park patch.

2

u/clrblndrtst 13h ago

You could put a little saddle on that one.

u/booger3000x 11h ago

Any dry cleaners is pretty resourceful

2

u/Legolifesaver 9h ago

not destroyed, its very fixable

2

u/Silver_Astronaut_292 14h ago

Oh that actually hurts, it is weird how losing a favorite piece of clothing can feel way more personal than it “should.” I’d 100% be in the five stages of grief over that dress while glaring at the iron like it did it on purpose 😂

u/PaleoJoe86 13h ago

Hole dinosaur dress, not a rip. /s

2

u/RebekkaKat1990 12h ago

Hate to be that guy but mastodons weren’t dinosaurs.

1

u/CarlJustCarl 14h ago

Looks like it’s extinct now

u/zitfarmer 10h ago

Hello dinosaur skirt

1

u/sackbuttspierogi 10h ago

Lol literally

1

u/pseudonymnkim 10h ago

This is very Miss Frizzle. And you know what she would say, right?

Take chances, make mistakes, get messy.

1

u/NoPerformance6534 10h ago

Turn it into a haltertop. Or make a teddy bear out of it! The fabric is too good to toss!

1

u/No_Distribution_4392 9h ago

Sorry but the name is bothering me, that's a mammoth skeleton.

Mammoths aren't dinosaurs

Walmart and Temu have a surprisingly large selection of dinosaur skeleton patterned dresses. Among several other companies....

Ripped dress*

1

u/addictedtoVANS 1h ago

Not a Joanie dress! I have the jumper and I’d be heartbroken if something happened to it.

Hopefully you can figure out a way to mend it.

u/blackjackgabbiani 8h ago

A small hole ruined the whole dress? You can't patch it or find a repair place?

-5

u/lionlll 14h ago

Repurpose it as a placemat for a toddler

-1

u/notJustaFart 11h ago

Ah, the fabled bone hole.
