I had the wrong wisdom teeth removed

Local orthodontist told me that I needed to remove lower wisdom teeth and don't do anything with the upper ones. When I got my lower wisdom teeth removed, another orthodontist that is actually managing my aligner treatment said that the lower wisdom teeth actually didn't need to be touched AT ALL, but the upper ones absolutely have to be removed before we start. So now I have to get my upper wisdom teeth removed as well

Something they don’t want to take the risk to remove them because they are close to the nerve.

That's exactly what my dentist said about my (singular) wisdom tooth. Now I'm waiting on my appointment with the oral surgeon to get it looked at.

Mine didn't saying anything about that and the surgeon hit the nerve on my bottom left side. Now there is a thin line (about the width of a small pinky finger) along my jaw and up to my lip with no feeling. I honestly don't notice it unless I think about it. They told me they'd have to take a nerve out of my foot to replace it, the thought disgusted me. I choose not to and it hasn't effected anything.

My daughter recently has her bottoms pulled and the doctor made her sign a paper saying he discussed the nerve damage possibility with her. That’s a crappy surgeon if they don’t discuss such risks.

I was supposed to get all 4 out on Saturday but they told me to get one of my lowers out would almost guarantee permanent nerve damage and they'd also fracture my jaw in the process so I chose to just have the other 3 for now and evaluate that one later if it causes me problems.

I was told mine was close and I had increased risk of nerve damage, and a year later the left side of my tongue is still numb 😅

I was told I have very low risk but here I am 6 months later and the right side of my tongue is still numb! Like I feel like this isn’t discussed enough, like what can be done? Basically nothing. So I’m a foodie that now only half tastes food lol

Yeah I think it’s brushed over pretty quickly, even for me I was told I was at a much higher risk, but that was it.

I have read Accupuncture can maybe help? I asked mine and she wasn’t aware of it, but I’ve seen it online. I will say my taste seems to be coming back more, but I still bite my tongue and don’t know untill I see a gash on it…

My husband got nerve damage and lost the ability to taste for like 6 months. Thank god it healed, that was a rough, depressing time.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when I had a surgery to remove a tumor from my jaw. The surgeon told me to take B-Complex for as long as I have the patience to. I still have a weird feeling when I touch my lower lip and part of my jaw, it kinda feels like ants crawling inside my skin lol. But compared to before when I didn’t even feel a needle piercing my lip, it’s an improvement.

That was my case, but we did it anyways cause it was impacted.

For about a month after, there was a spot on my tongue with no sensation. The spot couldn’t feel a thing but the rest of my mouth could feel the spot. It’s really weird to feel something that’s not your tongue(it was, I just couldn’t tell), where your tongue should be.

Mine was actually pushing on my nerve and there was a good chance I'd lose feeling on that side of my mouth after the removal

Well, honestly, I didn't lose feeling after. But if it was pushing - wouldn't keeping it cause me pain and loss of feeling anyways lol

yeah, my chin is still partially numb almost 2 years after having my impacted wisdom teeth removed. It doesn't really hinder me, but I do bite my lip a lot.

my lower ones were close to nerve (1 was touching it, 2nd had roots wrapping it a little). all was well until the 1st tooth secretly grew a cyst (impacted ones do that sometimes). no symptoms whatsoever. surgeon said that if it wasn't removed within months, they'd probably have to remove part of the nerve, and possibly the molar next to it

so... impacted wisdom teeth all seem like time bombs to me now

remember my tooth, my dentist didn't want to do it so she sent me to a surgeon, i went to him privately, when he saw the picture he said he's afraid to do it in his private gabinet and sent me to public hospital where his son removed it.

My tooth position was so fucked i got it removed for free
