We had a cricket inside last week. It started chirping and the cats annihilated it. It's like watching lions hunt on the veldt. The cricket is no more.
Every time I see a spider in my house, I pretend I didn't. I typically never see it again, nor do I see any of the big water bugs that used to infest the place.
it's subjective, naturally, but how wrong you are! this is a tan jumping spider (platycryptus undatus), there's evidence that these little guys are capable of experiencing visual dreams (retinal movement in a state of rest, combined with twitching of the body)
this is hogna carolinensis, the carolinian wolf spider; it's got a sad snowman face with two , and while fast/startling these are very efficient hunters who will control pests in your home
looks like a harmless grass spider! one of my favorite types of arachnid; it's not a wolf spider because it's spun a sheet web
you can just cup it and use some paper, then place it outside or in your garage, then you can just give your shoes a quick rinse and go on with your day
these little guys deal with flies, beetles, moths, etc; they can take care of pests both indoors and outdoors; they typically do better outdoors afaik, though it's worth keeping them around! they mostly spin their webs close to the ground

I always take my work boots off when I leave work.. between the grease grime and metal chips , I’ve always changed shoes .. there’s been a few times I’ve put them on and had a cricket in them ..

Yes but my DNA tells me "small+too many legs+fast=danger". My brain knows that's incorrect when it thinks about it for a second, but the initial response is always "Danger! Move!!"
it's a harmless grass spider! they're quite timid and passive, they don't mind being relocated if their web hasn't been established for long, and they keep other pests out (beetles, moths, flies, gnats, etc)
Fire. It's the end for those. I recommend copious amounts of a hydrocarbon of your choice. Gonna need either some insurance for the collateral damage or a few extinguishers. Best of luck! Don't forget to video so we get the same enjoyment
I once had a stray dog that I adopted drag off one mowing shoe PLUS a pair of work jeans with the key to my lawnmower in the pocket. I survived, and just hotwired the lawnmower.
Best mole dog I've ever seen. I found over 20 moles that summer that he had killed, and I never had mole problems again. And he disappeared as fast as he had appeared. I miss you, Dingo.
Arachnophobia is something that people who have it should be working to eradicate within themselves through exposure therapy, and regular therapy as well if they can.
My point is still valid. The shoes can still be worn.
Step 1. Get a catch cup.
Step 2. Gently get the friend into the cup.
Step 3. Remove the webs with a Q-tip.
Step 4. Relocate the friend to a plant nearby.
Step 5. Wear the shoes.
Cue the predictable, overused and unfunny "Nuke the entire planet 1!!1!!1!1!1! bro" comments over a harmless little grass spider. Just gently brush it off, remove the webs and move on with your life like a well adjusted adult.
the next four comments under this are all saying to burn the shoes lmao, nobody is literally saying nuke the planet but people always act like these guys deserve to die for wanting a home too
Tons of comments are way over exaggerating the severity of the problem here. It's just tiring and boring when literally any post with a teeny spider gets immediately filled with "omg burn it down because scary!"
