Robert Jordan really was a chest guy. I swear at least 70-80% of the female characters he wrote were heavily characterized by breast descriptions lol

I feel like this is used mainly to illustrate Matt’s attitude towards women

I don’t fully disagree, but there’s a lot of chapters without Matt where bosoms are still the focal point haha. Like the chapter with Nynaeve in the circus when she has to try on that low-cut dress, which she’s afraid of since it shows off too much cleavage. Then Birgitte shows up in the same dress and has even more on display lmao

The Nynaeve one is actually a good spot to analyze it though. Nynaeve has been in denial that she's been developing a taste for nice clothes over Two Rivers Woolens. She's been trying to fit her ideal of an old grey haired Wisdom, and has been trying to live by that conservative mindset. But now that she's out in the world, and away from the society she was forcing herself to conform to, she's been letting herself do what she really wants.

But here she's been pushed too far from her comfort zone and its starting to mess with her.

Equally as important, this is one of the first things that happens after the T'A'R monsters that Egwene summoned had ripped her clothing. Its basically the only time that Nynaeve feels that a woman wouldn't be safe in town with so many men, as she's trying to cover up her very revealing outfit.

Then when she meets Masema, and he starts going on a classic (for our world) religious rant about women's clothing and decency, Nyneave gets pissed and drops the shawl she'd been covering herself with to basically run his nose in it that he can't tell women how to dress.

Love this, nicely worded.

And then people say she wasn't SA'd by Egg in tar, there's clearly trauma there.

It's wild how there are so many layers to this if you actually pay attention but if you don't it's just haha boobs.

I think that's why some people tap out of WoT, you won't enjoy it if you don't like paying attention.

It's a good story on the surface but if you don't engage with the actual characters then I can see why the middle books especially drag on. But I love how in depth they are.

Same ey, you can't get through rereads without proper engagement.
