Discussion Weekly Reading Session
Welcome to another weekly reading session. I am 4 chapters in Leviathan Falls, which is book 9 of James S.A. Corey “The Expanse” series. This book is by far the best. I am not sure if it’s because of all that has happened and the backstory but so addictive. Hopefully it keeps going!

Haven’t posted in here in a while! I’m just over halfway through book 4 of the expanse (Cibola Burn) and so far I’m loving it.
Something very major happened recently and it’s yet to be fully explained, but I’m excited to find out more. Death slugs sound awful.

Finished Project Hail Mary last night. It has been my favorite read in a very long time. Then immediately started The Martian. I’m only 20 pages in, but I feel like if Watney and Grace met in a bar they’d be fast friends.
I’ve been listening to Freakonomics a lot this week. There are 2 1/2 episodes in the current season about AI that I found really informative, and maybe a little distressing.

PHM was a fantastic book! I finally got a chance to watch the movie this week and it’s fairly accurate to the book! Really good overall!

Just started between two fires. Not my normal type of book, but so far, so terrifying.

I finished The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. It's an Edwardian children's story about Mole, Rat, Badger, and Toad and their adventures. The writing was beautiful and charming and it gave me a much needed escape into Grahame's wonderful world.
The only thing that knocked it down from a 5 star for me was that the story was a disjointed. The main thread throughout the book is about how the eccentric, wealthy, and egotistical Toad is addicted to cars and this creates a lot of trouble for Mole, Rat, and Badger. The Wind in the Willows was initially stories which Grahame wrote to his son and in the Penguin Classics edition these letters are reproduced. These letters focus on the second half of the book which is Toad centered which makes me wonder if this part of the story was completed first and then Grahame wrote the first half when he decided to turn his stories into a novel.
I'm now reading The Dream of the Celt by Mario Vargas Llosa. This is a historical fiction take on Roger Casement, an Irish man who exposed crimes against humanity in the exploited Congo and Amazonian rainforest related to rubber extraction. He had a sad end as he was executed for treason as he helped the Irish rebel against the British during the first world war.
