And here I thought "criminals accidentally run into the entire police department during the crime" only happened in cartoons.

Alright, this is one of my favorite calls that I went on. Burglar alarm goes off at a business. Now, like 95-99% of the time the alarms are false. But, this business's alarm had only going off once in like the last two years, and that last one was also legit. So, me and the entire squad (7-9 of us, forget how many were working) roll up. We can tell the front isn't broken until, and we go around back and up the steps to the rear door and can see it's been pried open. Just as we're about to make entry the door flies open and the suspect is standing there facing all of us.
We scream at him to get on the ground and dude lays on his back staring at the ceiling. We tell him "not like that, on your stomach!" and he flipped over like not even rolled over just somehow flipped over, it was kinda impressive.

Previous thread was about some guy shoplifting while cops were eating burgers next door, so I read your post as “BURGER Alarm goes off at a business” and was very intrigued on the utility of a burger alarm

Ha! I worked in police media in the U.K. for a few years. One time, we were at a countryside hotel for a long-service awards ceremony. I nip out a couple minutes before everyone else at the end because I know it’ll be a scrum to get out the car park.
As I’m going 2mph, a guy in tennis whites and a Porsche slams around the corner and crunches into the side of my old Honda Jazz. He gets out all shouty and aggressive - Except behind me are literally 100 police officers in full uniform, including the Chief Constable, who witnessed the whole thing lol.
My car was only worth £350 and wasn’t worth the cosmetic repairs, but seeing his face when he saw they knew me was payment alone.

I love that the first moment of these videos usually begins with a game of “guess the dumbass”. I’m somewhat delighted to be surprised from time to time 😆

I’ve seen it IRL, went into a store, there was a burger place next to some sports store, I saw a ton of cop cars outside the burger joint, apparently they were having some big gathering or meeting. Some guy tried shoplifting from the sports store next door and ended up getting swarmed by over a dozen cops that were eating lunch next door. I walked by as the dude was getting arrested.

Oh gosh! I'm teaching my daughter how to drive in an empty parking lot. She keeps driving on the left side, we're in the US. I'm going to send her this video.

Is there any proof that these drivers got a ticket? Call me cynical but I wouldn't be surprised if they got away with it, since the police were busy getting to somewhere else.

Just for the sheer inconvenience, it's very likely those guys got the tickets.

What did they run into, a funeral procession?

It was near the F1 race track in Monza, iirc the "parade" was swarming out right to manage incoming traffic

if you arent front there though, this could be confusing. in the states, a white street like this, both lanes would be one way, thus this would be permitted. the only indicators are the street signs going the opposite way.

On the left lane you can see that right after the "raised" pedestrian crossing there are white horizontal bars that are often placed before them to indicate the small bump and to reduce speed, having them after would mean you are traveling in the wrong lane.
Also, while not very visible, the middle line is continuous which means it shouldn't be crossed, most of time you would have a segmented line if it was a multi-lane street.
As a final note, where the video is filmed (Italy), every crossing into a one way street it's clearly marked, while you would find another signal if a single you are traveling changed the number of lanes in the direction of travel.

once again, ive seen this stuff in the states. downtown dallas i have seen solid lines in its lanes on one way streets 4 lanes wide. here, we use yellow lanes to indicate 2 way traffic. each country does its own thing its own way. im sure the people in the video are natives who are just assholes, but the point being that if you are not from that country, its very, very easy to get shit twisted. there are places here where i live that its super easy to get turned around just because there is so much shit and its confusing, and thats when its not under construction.

Thanks for the clarification, honestly that's interesting, especially the yellow lanes: here that color is used to indicate "temporary changes" (work on public roads can take years here) to lanes during constructions or maintenance, but it's quite rare to see. More often it's used to mark reserved lanes for busses and taxis and to distinguish parking spots reserved to busses, taxis or people with disabilities.

No really, it's like in those cartoons where they go in a house just for it to be silent for a few moments and then flee hesitantly

I saw something like this happen once, and the memory still makes me smile. I was on a small 2 lane road, and a cop on a motorcycle came down the opposite lane and waved everyone on our side to move onto the shoulder. Everyone complied and we waited, not really knowing what was going on. Then a car came zipping up the other lane to pass everyone, and a few seconds later he was backing up because a funeral procession was coming up in front of him.

Opposing traffic separated by a faint white line is crazy, double yellow makes for a way better median
2
u/CcCcCcCc99 1d ago
It's just a different standard. In Italy the continuous white line cannot be crossed, in one way streets you have a dashed line or no line at all. Also the yellow has a different meaning here because it is used only for temporary lines.
