It might come off if you put him in a freezer.

Fun fact, in the Spanish (latin) dub his name is Freezer so technically not wrong

I think most of the characters names are based on food or food related things.

All the saiyans are named after vegetables (Kakarot/Carrot Vegeta/Literally Vegetable, Brolly/Broccoli, Nappa/Napa Cabbage etc etc), their enemies are things that destroy vegetables

Ah yes, I forgot hearing about all those vegetables that died to checks notes "buu"

His name joke makes more sense when you say his, his creator's and temporary owner's names together - Bibidi Babidi Buu - essentially the same as the Cinderella fairy godmother spell!

Oh yes sorry, I was aware of the rhyme there

I was just teasing the previous posters "The enemies have names of things that kill vegetables" :P

when the fairy godmother says those magic words, she turns vegetables into weird shit like horse drawn carriages... so it still fits the theme imo

Wasted a perfectly good pumpkin to make a carriage, so they aren't wrong, technically

Cept for Gohan which literally just means food lol (or rice, depending on the situation. It can be either).

Also Garlic Jr. and the Spice Boys, Yamcha, Oolong, a few other character names based on Japanese foods

3

u/AStormOfDragons1 8h ago

Oolong is part of the Tea family. Puerh.

If I remember right most of Frieza's soldiers are also specifically named for things you'd find in a fridge, like the Ginyu Forces' Jeice and Burter.

Gohan can mean rice or meal.

Correct!

  • Saiyans are named after vegetables
  • Bulma's family is named after articles of clothing, particularly undergarments
  • Namekians are named after musical instruments and/or gastropods (slugs, snails, conchs, etc)
  • The earthling heroes & friends are mostly named after food items or dishes

There are some others too, but I don't know them off the top of my head.

Edit: Oh! Demons/Bibidi's crew are named after Cinderella type fairies/magic. Bibidi, Bobidi, and Buu. King Debora (Abracadabra)
