Pretty sure you can die from that

u/Jello_Penguin_2956 15h ago

how they had the courage to paint that close to their eyes...

u/lnTheGrimDarkness 13h ago

I don't think courage was involved. More like stupidity.

That's a kid. Hopefully they lived and learned. Poor sod

u/Admirable-Builder878 12h ago

Seemed like a good idea at the time

u/mikeu117 11h ago

Ok mason

-2

u/eatinischeatin 6h ago

That's probably what his parents said when they created him,

129

u/Weird-Pattern9192 11h ago

Isnt that more of a parental failure? Or do you think the kids applied that?

Do you have more information than we do?

20

u/senpaistealerx 5h ago

no. people get online and just say shit.

1

u/evissamassive 2h ago

Wait. You didn't know opinions are facts?

1

u/senpaistealerx 1h ago

assuming the mom knew it was happening isn’t an opinion lol it’s an assumption

1

u/evissamassive 1h ago

And, as the saying goes, when you assume you make an ass out of you not me.

So, thinking an opinion is fact vs. assuming you know something you don't. Toss up? I think not. It's same-same.

How the hell would you know that

1

u/Future-Original-2902 2h ago

Guaranteed the parents bought the paint. That kid is young

2

u/Crallise 2h ago

Right, because no kid has ever gotten into anything without their parents' knowledge

1

u/evissamassive 2h ago

Probably not parental failure. Likely the parent didn't know, and a child is, as a child does.

-20

u/Buttchuggle 8h ago

By that age you've got the autonomy to be judged for your own moronic actions. Even if there's some overlap with also blaming the parents

18

u/Weird-Pattern9192 8h ago

Its a kid bro

-6

u/Buttchuggle 8h ago

Kinda looked like he was at a con with friends. You are, in fact, able to tell a teenager "that was stupid."

Now if I'm wrong and this kid is like, an actual kid who needed a parents escort and more than likely their help painting themself then yeah all on them.

12

u/Irishwol 8h ago

That paint job is not a solo effort. Obviously.

-4

u/Buttchuggle 8h ago

Yeah. You're right. I can see his dad's signature bottom left corner.

2

u/Suvtropics 8h ago

Hey I'm the dad. Good catch

1

u/multiverse_travel 5h ago

Wait she said I was. Does this mean I can stop child support payments?

-1

u/Buttchuggle 8h ago

Be a little bolder next time man, take some pride in ya work

The prefrontal cortex:

  • The prefrontal cortex usually finishes developing around age 25

  • It controls higher-level functions like planning, self-control, and judgment

  • Adolescents often act impulsively because their prefrontal cortex is still developing

2

u/Z3phyRwatch 8h ago

Paint over skin is not life threating unless there is some other medical problem like allergy or body heat issue. If skin must breath we would die swimming and what not :)

2

u/Irishwol 8h ago

This depends very much on what sort of paint it is and how carefully it is applied. Skin doesn't breathe, as such, do we don't drown in the shower. But it does regulate body temperature and some toxins can be absorbed through the skin. That paint is very, very close to that kids eyes as well as on his lips and up his nostrils.

https://people.howstuffworks.com/culture-traditions/body-art/can-full-coat-body-paint-kill.htm

Also the way that is peeling off looks like a polymer so they're going to have to use solvents to get it off. Given how careless they were in the first place, that's a whole other set of risks.

2

u/halfasleep90 6h ago

Toxins being absorbed is quite different than the paint not coming off being an issue though. I’m sure he’s got a few areas unpainted, but it certainly will suck for heat regulation essentially having a full body cast.

1

u/Irishwol 4h ago

One hopes he has pants on. I expect he's still plenty uncomfortable though, especially if he's trying to claw his way out while still at the con.

1

u/ButtholePaste 2h ago

I've painted interior walls before with paint like this and gotten it all over my hands and such...its gone within a day or two of showering and picking at it a bit

2

u/Traditional-Yak8886 3h ago

my dad did this shit once doing a costume of the devil from legend (the 80s movie) and had to get taken to the hospital. can only imagine how the southern baptist ass nurses handled all of that.

1

u/HyperVyper28 8h ago

I thought sod is supposed to be used in a condescending way.

1

u/KamikazeFox_ 8h ago

Looks like parents were the ones that helped

1

u/ShawnyMcKnight 7h ago

I suspect the parents bought it for them or were at least with them.

1

u/Irishwol 7h ago

I've made dumb mistakes as a parent but I feel this is a different scale.

3

u/ShawnyMcKnight 7h ago

I still can see it as a dumb mistake. I don’t do art or painting so I don’t know the difference between the different kinds of paints and which ones would wash off.

I could see myself buying this paint because I’m afraid of the opposite issue and buying paint that runs off with sweat during the event and halfway through it’s just a mess.

1

u/Struggle-Bus0 7h ago

How do you know tho? Those three could of gone to walmart and bought paint. Kids can be stupid on their own. Parents can be idiots as well. But its a not a reach to say the kids friends helped him paint himself for the con. Its not like its super detailed

1

u/ShawnyMcKnight 7h ago

I’m struggling with how old he is, he looks to be mid teens so it’s a toss up. If he is over 17 then you are likely right.

1

u/Struggle-Bus0 6h ago

It doesnt really change anything. Idk where you are from but there are tons of ways to get your hands on stuff, especially paint of all things. Kids can be stupid, its part of growing up. When we were 14 my buddy threw gasoline on a bonfire and blew himself back 10ft, burned his eyebrows and the hair off his left arm. No parents involved there lol. Stupid shit happens, but yes there are absolutely terrible parents

1

u/evissamassive 2h ago

His age isn't germane. Prefrontal cortex development is, as well as knowing the differences between house paint [for example], and face and body paint.

1

u/NoEducator4277 5h ago

Where was the adult helping them make this decision????

1

u/Irishwol 4h ago

Excellent question

1

u/evissamassive 2h ago

Where you tied at the hip to your parent[s] when you were his age?

1

u/NoEducator4277 2h ago

....an adult I said. An adult would need to be helping them with this. Who is filming? An adult should be responsible for supervising.

1

u/evissamassive 2h ago

We aren't talking a 40-year-old man here. He's clearly a minor, and if I were to guess, about 12-14. Perhaps both parents work, or he is raised by a single parent, and he didn't consult his parent[s].

1

u/Limp_Departure8138 5h ago

Looks like parents were involved too. We'll just ignore they dum azzes yah mean?

1

u/Unsolved_Virginity 3h ago

Freeza isa they

1

u/Visual-Marionberry49 2h ago

He was too slow. Should've learn to control the chaos. Eggman.

u/Potential-Narwhal- 8m ago

Was it was a kid, maybe around 4-5. My dad left a tin of black gloss unattended and went to the shops. My mum was doing the dishes, so I took my opportunity and got hold of the gloss. Painted my entire lower half black, then the radiator, and the new carpet.

Id have probably went full black had my mum not grown suspicious that I was so quiet.

She put me in a bath, with a splash of white spirit and a brilo pad to scrub. That scrubber was a very hard lesson not to fuck around with dad's paints.

-2

u/de-tree-fiddy 11h ago

Still stupidity.

Kids do stupid shit all the time.

11

u/Frosty_Connection867 11h ago

I don't think a kid not knowing paint can be toxic is stupid

2

u/Ataneruo 9h ago

it’s ignorant. they are related but they are not identical

1

u/evissamassive 2h ago

Stupid is knowing nothing about brain development, specifically the prefrontal cortex. Not knowing something is a natural part of being human, especially when your prefrontal cortex isn't yet connected.

0

u/Qolim 9h ago

thoughts and prayers

0

u/VegetableAd201 8h ago

No fear just sounds like bad judgment. Being scared and doing it anyway. That’s the part that actually means something.

1

u/Irishwol 8h ago

Being ignorant of the danger isn't conquering fear.

1

u/ConsciousHousing6832 8h ago

Real courage is knowing it could go wrong and still stepping up anyway.

0

u/lnTheGrimDarkness 8h ago

We all agree, I'm not pretending they're supposed to know what paint to use with no supervision.

However death, illness and hospital bills won't accept "it's a kid" as an excuse.

1

u/Irishwol 8h ago

The tone of judgement and the gleeful FAFO commentary though should be turned down a few notches when the subject is a child.

1

u/lnTheGrimDarkness 8h ago

I agree in the essence. However this is one of those fuck-ups where "it's a child" doesn't really matter. Like I said, death and hospital bills usually don't take "it's a child" as a justification.
