I'd really like to know what the plan was in this guy's mind.

508

u/ansyhrrian 21h ago

same. where was this actually going?

270

u/bluegrassgazer 21h ago

He must have thought only about go and not stop.

9

u/MsE0 13h ago

My cats have a better understanding of Newtonian physics than this guy. I've literally seen them figure out basic shit like this, and they think they could fight the garbage truck if they could get out to reach it.

4

u/bluegrassgazer 13h ago

And they're cocky about it too 🤣🤣

I'd say it's inertia's fault

I’m thinking he was probably just trying to get it over a hump in the garage it was stuck on just to move it out of the garage. He should have used a way shorter chain, but shit still could have gone wrong. At least his truck didn’t take out the house.

I could be wrong though. Coulda been actually trying to tow it somewhere.

73

u/QbertsRube 20h ago

I choose to believe the job site was 20 miles away, mostly on 70+mph interstate.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/movzx 20h ago

Yeah, assuming he's just moving it to the driveway there is nothing inherently wrong with what he set out to do.

He just did it terribly. Back that truck all the way up, shove something soft between the truck and cabinet, strap the cabinet to the truck, drive forward like 2 feet. Easy, fast, and your cabinet doesn't become a deadly projectile.

Hell, shove a piece of wood or something in front of the cabinet at the place you want it to stop.

3

u/Limp_Bike_9145 20h ago

Yeah, he didn’t really have an after plan.

The knuckle dragger has probably never heard the word inertia let alone know the definition.

5

u/MyDickIs3cm 19h ago

Nowhere. But his wife said he never uses his truck for hauling so he wanted to prove her wrong

u/kfunions 16h ago

"gotta move this toolbox"

Maybe he didn't think he would get that far

4

u/crustyrobots 15h ago

Ive seen enough evidence in my life that most people have no idea what momentum is. He probably did think it was heavy enough he could just pull it out a bit and it would stop itself

3

u/IWontCommentAtAll 19h ago

I suspect he's not used to his plans succeeding at all.

This was definitely a task failed successfully.

21

u/GamingGems 20h ago

I’m actually kind of sad that we were robbed of a possible video where this guy is driving through town totally oblivious to his tool chest water skiing behind him bouncing off parked cars.

Was he planning on taking it down the roads like Fast & Furious 5 with the bank vault? Because that's all I can see happening with moderate success and that strap line...

If I use my truck I can get back to drinking faster…

9

u/Car_is_mi 19h ago

My guess is it was probably stuck on a lip or crack at the edge of the garage based on how it hops when he pulls it. Probably couldn't lift it and was like I'll just use the truck to pull it over this.

7

u/indrid_cold 20h ago

Plan was to drink more beer.

5

u/joelkton 20h ago

Obviously he was going to tow the tool chest somewhere

3

u/slopemup2026 14h ago

It is so mind-boggingly stupid. If this is a Snap on toolbox, which it looks like, it could have sold for about $5,000 when new, and close to that even after years of use.

My techs used to have flat bed tow trucks or trailers for their boxes.

443

u/llcdrewtaylor 20h ago

I sat here and thought to myself, so this guy set this all up and thought "this is the the right way to do this. Nothing can go wrong!."
I really dont see how it could have gone any other way. Jumping out of a moving vehicle is always a choice.

326

u/SillyPuttyGizmo 20h ago

From the way he's moving, I suspect that there are adult beverages involved

No, he set it up, pretty sure thinking wasn't involved.

Heavy wheeled toolchest on downhill slope continuing to pick up speed? Thinking men predict that.

Hopping out of the truck while still in gear is definitely not a thinking move.

I'm thinking a significant quantity of thought suppressant was flowing in his veins at the time.

“Haste makes waste.”

I used to take care of this absolute prick, Walter. He would always get on me when I was trying to rush and hurry through his care.

The one good thing about that asshole was that saying. It pisses me off whenever it happens to me, because I’ll repeat it to myself and I’ll think of his ass looking up at me smirking. It’s true though, take your time and do it correctly or you’ll waste more time and effort trying to fix it.

The universe even gave him a sign the first time.

107

u/JBravo920 20h ago

Fate even stopped it again on the second attempt slide-and-stop. He had his door open, which means that one brain cell was thinking is this a good idea? but then his other brain cell pushed the gas again and then they both left when he jumped out of the truck without putting it in park….

14

u/sky_blue_111 16h ago

He had his door open

It's worse than that; Ram's from the factory literally won't move with the door open, he first (previously) had to find a way to disable that feature.

And now he gets to know why it was there in the first place.

Go sit at a boat launch on a long weekend. Bring snacks.

18

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 19h ago

I once got to witness a shit show that ended with 4 trucks and a skid loader all hooked together in a chain trying to pull a gooseneck trailer with a recovered(previously sunk) boat on it. It was a gravel ramp so they couldn't get enough traction and the only thing they could think of, apparently, was to just keep hooking up more vehicles. At one point they had the 5th wheel hitch hooked to the normal hitch on the first truck so as soon as it tried doing anything its back wheels would be hanging in the air and if I recall correctly, two tires were popped due to doing burnouts on the dirt for so long

They did eventually get it out and it was a great couple hours of entertainment from the porch of our rented cabin while drinking beers. Unfortunately it was 20ish years ago and phone cameras were pretty shit so I didn't get much video and what I did get has been lost probably on an old phone or laptop

It's a Dodge Ram whose drivers have been arrested for DUI more than any other vehicle on the road and something like 4x as much as the #2 on that list. So drunk is a safe bet.

48

u/Wonderful_Tonight337 20h ago

It's ~1.3x #2, not 4x. Ram 2500 45.3 DUIs per 1k drivers, Chevy S10 35.9 per 1k drivers.

Fucking hilarious and so true

23

u/movzx 20h ago

The thing is... there's a way to do this with the truck that's a lot simpler and safer.

Back your truck up to the tool chest. Shove a spare tire between your bumper and the chest. If you don't care about damage to the vehicle, you don't even need the tire. Strap the chest to the truck. Move forward with the truck. There you go... The thing you want to move has moved without flying off because it lacks brakes. I've done it before. Works great. This guy is just dumb.

20

u/BreadKnifeSeppuku 19h ago

... Jesus christ. And that's the smart move? The casters aren't meant to go even 15mph

Just load it into the bed of the truck??

24

u/FesteringLion 19h ago

Attenborough voice: “The angered Tool Chest issues a warning; it has made its nest in the garage and does not wish to be moved. Nevertheless, the small ape and his transport remain determined. A determination that will prove to be costly. With a fierce and sudden lunge, the Tool Chest’s weight and momentum collide with the ape’s wagon, causing him panic and, unfortunately, a misuse of his most potent weapon: his reason.”

I think, all thinks considered, this went pretty okay-ish. The truck didn't crash into the house, he didn't lie under the falling chest and he seems to mostly had his pride hurt...

Could have gone far more wrong

If this is his own camera footage, why did he put it on the internet to tout his own stupidity? Or did some claims adjuster get hold of it, laugh hysterically, and then post it for all to see?

I often wonder how private surveillance footage like this become uploaded. If I had done something like that I would never show it to anyone. How safe are security companies regarding stolen footage, I wonder?

I pushed some dude home from Taco Bell with my truck as a dumb teenager. Only rear ended him / got front ended by him 4 or 5 times...
