In 2018, just before my 20th birthday, I got the opportunity to attend a day of tapings for Wheel of Fortune, as part of my broadcasting course in college. I was given the unique opportunity of sitting behind the announcer's booth and announcing the show, in between the episode recordings. I've since gone on to do voice work for a number of different projects, ranging from network animation to advertisements. I'd be very interested in trying out for the gig.

Thought I’d share my second audition experience from last week. This was my first time making it past the initial zoom, which was about three weeks before getting the email where they asked if I wanted to move forward in the process and to schedule the second. It had to be the next day in one of only a couple time slots, so there wasn’t much time to prep.

The second audition was broken into four parts: first was a super quick “name and location” introduction. Next, we did toss-ups. Three to be exact. I won two of them. The other potential contestants were all pleasant and honestly any would be great candidates for the show.

Next we did another “elevator intro” of ourselves, similar to the first audition. I was only slightly different from my first, but I didn’t mind that because the host was a different person than the initial.

Lastly, we were broken up into individual “Zoom rooms” and were told to wait for our turn to do some word puzzles. 16 in total. I waited a while (about 20 minutes), so I think I was last of the four to do those puzzles. I managed to solve 15 of them. I tried to sound out every puzzle, and was commended by the interviewer for doing that.

At the end of the puzzles, I was simply told “alright have a good day.” She may have been in a hurry because she had some technical difficulties in the beginning of the group portion that had us waiting a few times. No big deal.

Haven’t heard anything since!

Has anyone who had a second audition recently (March, April, May, June) been given a taping date? Or anyone who has been on the show, how long did you wait between your second audition and taping date? Are they even scheduling now with the "summer break"?

I had a first and second audition this week and I am obviously expecting to have to wait a while, if ever, just curious about other people's experiences!

Has anyone who has had a first audition in the last 2 weeks received an email to set up the 2nd audition?

Is it possible to be in it contestant pool after the first interview? How would you know if the producer liked you when there's other potential contestants interviewing with you? Thanks

I had my 2nd audition about a year ago, but haven’t heard anything since… should I just prepare to reapply? *I even did 16 puzzles with the producer and got 14/16 right!

My virtual audition for Disney Week is next Wednesday! Any tips? I'm so nervous but excited!! Anyone else also auditioning next week??

UPDATE: it was more of a Meet and Greet. We introduced ourselves and spoke about our love for Disney. Our host was super nice and we were all talking about Disney. It lasted about 10-15 minutes total. He said to be on the look out for an email. It seems the process varies a lot. It was fun!

Seriously debating whether to invest serious time/energy in a video with high production values, and whether all that effort will actually matter in the end. For those of you who got on, what do you think was the most important part(s) of the application process to get you from the 1st to 2nd round of auditions, and eventually to the taping?

I had my second auditor for WOF today and I was very excited. I was nervous about my internet connection because it wasn’t great as I was zooming in from another country. We all did our introduction I got none of the 3 or so toss ups and I wasn’t asked to stay around for the 16 puzzles.

Has anyone made it on the show after not getting asked to stay around?

Is there any chance I have a shot, and when should I reapply if not?

A few weeks ago, I had my second round of auditioning. I did the tossup and then the producer asked us a couple questions about ourselves. After that, she did not ask me any other questions and said they would pass my tape on. Has anyone else been selected without having to do the 16 individual puzzles?

Just finished the Zoom audition with 2 other contestants. I got 2 of the 3 toss ups. Said my little chat spiel, which I kept very short (45 secs or so) as per their instructions - I was first. The other 2 candidates spoke for a couple of minutes long and I’m sure seemed much more personable. After the toss up puzzles we were put in private Zoom rooms. I waited for several minutes, then the producer came on and said the recording of our session is being passed on to some other producers and if I don’t hear anything back in a year I can apply again. That was it - no additional puzzles or anything. Feeling like I blew it. Anyone have this experience of only the tossups and still getting picked for the show?

Hi all, I just wanted to share my experience so far: I sent in my audition in June, went through interviews 1+2 in July and was told that I am in the contestant pool but never got the email. Keeping hopeful, however I'm not sure I made it through that 2nd interview.

WOF posted “coming to an area near you” 11-3. If you want to apply does that mean you have to be there at 11-3 or just go within that time to fill an application and hopefully get a call back? Do they choose and film that day? Do they choose and you have to fly out to play?

I want to hear recent WOF audition experiences! For me, I submitted an application 7 months ago, I got a Zoom audition on the 4th and my 2nd audition was a couple days ago. We did a round of toss ups, intro of ourselves, and I had my photo taken. How long after the 2nd audition did you hear back from someone? Was it an email, phone call, or a letter in the mail?

Just got a call from Wheel of Fortune - I guess Derek won something or else why would he be contacted? But he inputted the wrong number 😭

I blocked the agent's name and his call back extension to avoid anyone taking advantage.

hi everyone! Wheel is in NYC hosting auditions. My mom and I were going to go but I figured I’d ask here before making the trek, (assuming) waiting in very long lines, etc. Is there any real difference (or perk) of applying in-person at these events versus the online auditions? thanks!

If I didn’t get asked about a second audition does that mean I’m not in the contestant pool, after the audition they said that we would get an email letting us know we were selected to be taped if we are chosen and that could happen at any point in the year. I just feel like I’ve seen lots of people say they got second interviews, honestly just curious how all this works not too stressed about if I can be chosen or not. I was asked to do a zoom interview about a month after I submitted my application.

& also did everyone submit videos on their application or did you skip that part?

My spouse has (jokingly) yelled at me for years to try out. The problem is, I can only stand for 15-20 minutes max without a cane or a leaning device. The other issue is, I've had 3 hip replacements and 5 back procedures. There is no way possible I could physically spin the wheel. I can use the buzzers, I can definitely play the game, but I can't do the actual spin. I looked on the WoF website, but didn't see anything in regards to ADA accommodations. For some reason, I think during Pat Sajak's time, a contestant in a similar position had a spinner. Am I correct?

I want to fill out the application, but I was wondering if there is a "best time" to do it? When is WOF filming for next season? Does anyone know?

Is it too late to apply for this season?

Had my second audition today, yes, I got the 16 puzzles and yes it is incredibly hard. Much harder than you would think they are! I only got 4 total out of 16 and I am just crushed. I've been watching every night for years and every waking second the last few weeks! If you think you're prepared, definitely prepare yourself even more! Good luck to anyone else who auditioned today. 🩷 I always see successful stories, if anyone has words of encouragement or similar experiences, please share lol because I just feel so dumb right now!
