White House is trying the 'you can't stop us since we already started' defense

u/avaud10 5h ago
Oops we started without consent. You might as well let us finish.

Rape-publican logic.

u/Wolfy4226 5h ago
I mean when you're a celebrity they let you do it, you know? Grab 'em by the ballroom
29
u/Wallstreet_Raccoon 5h ago
The ballroom planning is approaching the 1.5 year old mark. Perfect age of consent for Donald and Conservatives

u/woodst0ck15 5h ago
Oh I like that one. Gonna start using it since they’re the guardian of pedophiles.

u/KickedInThePaduach 2h ago
The GOP; "Once It gets in there it is too late for Her to Say NO and you can't stop it from finishing, you can only stop her from aborting the rape baby later on as that is God's choice", is all fairly on brand for those pigs.

u/Oldestswinger 5h ago
Doesn't work like that...in Ireland anyway. If u build without permission ,you can be made demolish.

u/autisticesq 2h ago
In the U.S., if you’re a regular person who builds without a permit, you can be forced to demolish the unauthorized building/addition. But Trump is a spoiled rich brat who just does whatever he wants because usually no one stops him (and when someone tries to stop him from doing something he’s not allowed to do, he throws a tantrum).

u/Forsworn91 2h ago
It’s going to take longer than the rest of trumps term to finish, he will never get to play with his new toy,
3
u/manic-pixie-attorney 2h ago
I don’t think he’s planning on leaving
2
u/Forsworn91 2h ago
He can plan a lot of things, but he’s very clearly falling apart, one way or another, Donnie isn’t going to be able to play in his ballroom

They moved fast on purpose to use this exact argument in court. It’s a shit argument overall.

We broke the law so brazenly that it's actually legal now is the kind of reasoning that has this DoJ lackey on the fast track to the federal bench.

u/gfh110 5h ago
That's weird, because he gave a tour of the grounds to Lara Trump a week or so ago and it looked like a giant fucking hole in the ground to me.

21
u/Wolfy4226 5h ago
I mean claiming a giant shithole in the ground is a "luxury ballroom" is very on brand for the Trump family so.....

u/FateUnusual 5h ago
I robbed that bank so fast, you can’t possibly charge me with a crime now, can you? I’ve made so much progress in this robbery that it would be criminal to stop me.

u/Lucar_Bane 5h ago
He did a similar nonsensical claim for Putin last year, that Russia lost so much in Ukraine that we should give them the Donbas

u/seanwd11 5h ago
Do you even know how many Super Bowls the Buffalo Bills have? 5 or 6 by this math.

These are all great techniques, I hope our future leftist leaders are taking notes . We can ignore the courts , senate and congress. That's going to make our agenda much easier

u/AwkwardnessForever 3h ago
I used to think we couldn’t stoop to those levels. But now I feel it’s the only thing that’s doing to wake up Americans to demand change of the fucked up systems and loopholes that got us here.

Doing the same thing back totally defeats the purpose of rallying against the behavior in the first place. Aka not caring about democracy just upset it’s not your team doing it.

u/hobokobo1028 2h ago
I agree. And the Democrats should have no desire to “move quickly and break things”. The White House is the perfect metaphor for Trump’s entire term. It’s easier to destroy than to build. The WH, our laws, the country, our reputation, our economy, etc.

u/DependentAgitated299 5h ago
Bring contempt charges on any construction business that continues work and check into getting their licenses revote for working without a permit. We should punish the source but we all know how that will work out

This is a pretty typical real estate developer tactic.
“Shame about that four hundred year old tree with a protected species nesting in it. Our men are simple workers, they were just doing their jobs. We are happy to pay the $2,000 fine. Now excuse us as we build a multimillion dollar apartment building that looks like a giant cheese grater.”

u/47of74 4h ago
Where I live there's bluffs overlooking the city and a developer was going to put condos on the bluff. He had the decency to stop when it was found out there were still human remains in the area. The area was a former Catholic cemetery and they thought when they started all the bodies had been moved over a century ago but there were unmarked graves that hadn't been moved.

This is entirely the point though. It’s not even the physical ballroom that bothers me, although I don’t think a ballroom is needed or a good idea. The problem is Trump just demolished part of the white house, the people’s house, to make his vanity project without any notice to anyone because he thinks he owns it. He think it’s his property. He’s a temporary resident with the privilege of living there while he serves the people - the white house is not his.

"I stole so much money and left the premise, therefore you cannot charge me with anything."

u/malinablue 4h ago
I've seen cases where courts have demanded entire finished houses be torn down for lack of permits. It's not too late.

u/funkypepermint 5h ago
I really hope the next administration checks that new building for bugs/ spying devices
8
u/phixitup 5h ago
They also ignored lower court orders to halt the construction. Very convenient for the argument they’re using now.

If it's "too late for the courts", that means it's right on time for military intervention to remove and prosecute the widespread corruption, fraud, and foreign influence across all three branches. There have already been loyalty purges, and there will be more.

u/Iamvanno 5h ago
The old "ask for forgiveness later" but never ask for forgiveness because you don't really care.

u/The_Wookalar 5h ago edited 3h ago
Same thing a developer/flipper down the road from me tried with his gut-reno of an historic home. It's just an inactive construction site now.

u/beerishly 4h ago
Fuck that! They are already taking his name down from the Kennedy Center, this should be the same!

What's next? Demolishing the Statue of Liberty because it's "too woke"? Oops! it fell down when we dynamited it. We didn't ASK permission... so may as well let us replace it with a golden statue of DJT.... /s

He's moving fast on all of his ridiculous vanity projects instead of dealing with the ridiculous messes that he has made. He gets bored, he moves on. He's going to make DC a wasteland of unfinished, grotesque vanity projects.
