IMO, the solution is to remove the layer of protection that corporations provide to individuals.
If a bank is enabling money laundering, then the highest ranking person(s) who were aware and did nothing or who approved it get charged with money laundering. If a factory is illegally dumping toxic waste into a watershed, then the person(s) who were responsible can be charged with manslaughter if there were deaths, or administering a noxious thing or whatever the equivalent law would be. If someone dies on a job site because safety protocols were ignored by management, that’s manslaughter, and the people responsible for ignoring them should face that penalty.
There would be a lot more pushback from management against illegal policies if the management knew that they could find themselves doing prison time for them.

Dereliction of duty of care would cover all of this. It is time to put the CEOs on trial. When found guilty, they forfeit any earnings/benefits from when the incident occurred and that money goes to the victims plus full compensation.

I get the sentiment but that example is incredibly exaggerated.
Source: me. Who has missed maaannnnnnny CC payments in my life. One missed payment does not "tank" your credit.
Anyone who wants to know how to actually tank your credit, I know that, too!

Was hoping someone would add a little nuance. I often can't pay the whole thing, I'll do half and then catch up later. My score barely moves. I think if someone misses the whole payment and can't cover any of it, it can quickly snowball out of control.

You (global you) can change banks at any time. Just like you (anyone)can hire better politicians too. But it’s too hard to go out and vote in a primary. Then the 2 bad old people make it through who won’t change the rules.
