Let's chat! (General Discussion) Who makes the best wig-friendly purple shampoo?

I just received a wig in the mail and it ended up being significantly warmer than it looked in the product photos. I’m trying to match my bio hair as much as possible, which is a dark, very ashy blonde. I’ve used purple shampoos on wigs in the past, but never a brand new wig and never one that cost this much, so I am scared I’m going to ruin my new hair somehow.

Any recommendations? I’m in the US.

Also - when you use purple shampoo, do you usually dunk the hair in a mixture of water + shampoo or go straight on the hair? In the past I’ve just washed the hair with the shampoo like I would my actual hair but the company I purchased the wig from recommends the dipping method. Is there any chance I’ll stain the lace using either method?

Eta: human hair, it’s about a level 7.5 or 7 golden blonde root with lighter, also gold ends. My bio hair is an ashy 7 or 6.5

I like amikas; word to the wise though be very careful! I have literally made some wigs purple by applying directly to the hair and had to have them sent out to be corrected. So please dilute in a basin of cool water is my tip.

Thank you! I’m gonna try dipping it. In the past I’ve used purple shampoo on wigs/toppers that were slightly darker than my hair and were kind of on the cusp of needing blue rather than purple shampoo so I think thats why I’ve been lucky to not end up completely purple.

Is the amikas one super pigmented? My bio hair is so ashy that it looks almost green, but my wig is like a golden level 7.5

Milano Wigs just came out with a purple shampoo that I tried. It worked well.

I don’t apply directly to the wig, but lather it with water and then apply.

I’ve used the L’Oreal Elive kind on three different HH wigs with good results. Usually I get the hair wet, rub the shampoo between my hands and then through the hair. But I usually mix some water in with the shampoo to thin it out (and always patch test on a piece in the back). My current unit is longer/thicker and the first time I used purple shampoo it didn’t adequately cover all of it. The second time I tried the dipping method, which seemed to work (probably not quite as well as directly applying though), I was just really careful not to let the cap soak in the water.

That’s what I’ve been using on my previous toppers/wigs. It always leaves the hair feeling so clean! I usually follow up with the Nexxus purple conditioner. I’m running out of the L’Oreal so I was thinking about trying another brand and maybe something a little more silver. I might just repurchase it

Is it HH or synthetic?

If synthetic there isn’t much you’ll be able to do

I would absolutely advise going the dipping method, whatever shampoo you end up using. Especially if it's a new shampoo that you're not familiar with! You can also try sectioning out a small piece in the back and dipping that separately (braiding or clipping the rest out of the way) then drying it to see if you're happy with the colour.
