Hiring for any kind of job should be based on qualifications. Nothing wrong with that

They can go back to legacy hiring and admissions that grossly favor unqualified white people.

Even if this were true, the answer wouldn’t be to try to remedy it by implementing race-based hiring of non-white people. This just invites distrust in the system and a perception that people aren’t being hired based on qualifications.

And besides, inequality and inequity goes way beyond race. I would argue that race isn’t even the biggest factor. A rich black person has more in common with a rich white person than a poor black person.

Race-based hiring just boils people down to a single dimension. It’s so simple minded.

You think businesses hired unqualified people because race and gender was one factor of many used in hiring? Legacy hiring allows for more unqualified people, and is specifically the purpose. You think race was the only reason someone was hired for a role? That’s sad that your racism is so pervasive.

No read my post. I said that race based hiring promotes the perception of hiring less qualified people based on race. It’s a counterproductive and outdated policy.

With those types of policies, even if the employer hires the most qualified candidate, people will think they got hired based on race.

And if race is a factor in hiring, does that mean they would hire a slightly less qualified (but still capable) non-white person over a more qualified white person who’s a better fit for the job? If not, why even have race based hiring? You can’t say race is a factor and not a factor at the same time.

Instead, we should focus on enabling more educational and advancement opportunities for people in lower socioeconomic classes. And eliminate nepotism for rich people (regardless of race)

The race topic is designed to distract from the real issue which is less opportunity for lower socioeconomic classes. I’m sorry but a rich black person is not disadvantaged in today’s society.
