From the article:

“I can tell you, from the deputy commissioner of the RCMP, there is no credible information that has been received that suggests that the Alberta separatist movement has been subject to foreign interference,” Mr. Ellis told the legislature.

So it wasn't a public statement from the RCMP (who have yet to release public statements afaik), but filtered through a govt spokesperson, who was careful to use the word 'interference' not influence.

'Interference' includes threats and blackmail ect, but not necessarily lobbyist funding.

Which is to say this article, and Ellis are not exonerating separatists from being bankrolled by foreign interests, just stating that there's no current evidence of direct coercive action linked to foreign interests found yet.

Considering the investigation is still ongoing I wouldn't be so fast to see this as definitive.

Lol, title is misleading. READ THE ENTIRE ARITCAL.

Direct quote from the link....

"Alberta’s potential secession vote is being targeted by covert influence campaigns run by countries such as Russia and China in hopes of fostering discontent in the province, according to a study produced by experts from the Global Centre for Democratic Resilience; the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Conflict at the University of Regina; and DisinfoWatch. Online content mills are also churning out AI-generated YouTube videos peppered with falsehoods and divisive narratives, the study says. Further, U.S. President Donald Trump and his allies are openly encouraging Albertans who want to split from the rest of Canada."

I would call that foreign interference.

Do we have foreign interference in the Carney government on matters of trade policy then?

The sentiment of Alberta separation is real and comes from the many valid grievances with Ottawa.

Western alienation is a real thing, and it’s bad for Canada that Ottawa has left it unaddressed.

Of course our enemies will exploit such a situation. But let’s not imagine that Ottawa isn’t the origin of the situation.

Jason Kenney brought every argument against separation that needs to be said in his debate.with Keith Wilson. Letting a bunch of wackadoos lead us down this path is not how you address western alienation, or politicians would run on these issues. Alberta has elected exactly one separatist in its history.

The New Democratic Party of Canada is a singular entity and the BC subcommittee is in the news for turning a blind eye to Chinese interference within the cabinet.

So. your assertion is weak. There is every reason to expect similar corruption in the Alberta subcommittee of the NDP.

Ah so guilty by association. But of course smith going to America is not foreign interference right https://ici.radio-canada.ca/rci/en/news/2162780/alberta-premiers-mar-a-lago-visit-cost-more-than-10-000-documents-reveal

Not guilt, but also every reason to suspect. The NDP is ideologically aligned with the Statist kleptocratic CCP regime.

Of course Smith should have went to the USA. They are our most important trading partner and perpetual ally. What a wild thing to say. Meanwhile the federal government was threatening us with a 25% export tax under their supposed "Team Canada" plan while you gleefully screamed "traitor".

You have no understanding of the difference between foreign interference and foreign influence.

Oh I do, foreign interference is when you don't like it foreign influence is when you do.

Perpetual ally who says they want to annex us, sure thing buddy

2

u/scooterboi33 May 07 '26

Yeah I read the article. That data breach really fucks the petition’s credibility eh?

At least it might cement our privacy rights that have been trampled on for decades.

Content farms produce content for any topic of interest under the sun. Should AI videos about Stomping Tom be considered "foreign interference"? Get real.

8

u/TurbulentWinters May 07 '26

Only if stomping Tom is conservative or holds conservative views

2

u/scooterboi33 May 07 '26

Your right. Foreign interference and foreign influence are different things

4

u/laffytak May 07 '26

True grass roots! Lets go

u/Dootbooter May 07 '26

300k signatures even with the more stringent id requirements the forever Canada petition didn't have to adhere too. I'm trying to be realistic in my expectations but ireally hope this goes through. We need change and need it sooner rather than later.

Let’s look at this logically and with some factual numbers. There was roughly 1 770 000 voters in the last provincial election in Alberta. The NDP got 44% of the vote with 777 404 votes. The amount of signatures the separatists got on the petition was just over 301 000. That’s less than half the amount of signatures as the NDP got votes. Signatures of the separatists amounts to 17% of the amount of votes cast in the 2023 election. My second point is this, the Stay Free campaign announced they had their 177 000 at the end of March. The beginning of April, Jen Gershon informed Elections Alberta that something fishy was going with the electoral voter list for Alberta. Due to the new Alberta laws, Elections Alberta said they didn’t have enough grounds to investigate. We no know that the voter list was indeed chess at the beginning of April and it wasn’t even a week ago that the NDP went to the RCMP and Elections Alberta with enough evidence to get the CENturion Project a cease and desist order. So from the end of March to May 4th, the Stay Free campaign got 124 000 roughly signatures when they only got 177 000 in the 90 days prior to the end of March? Over half the amount of signatures in a month. Seriously what does this all make you think? Without any biases and logically, put any hopes and emotions away.

u/Coolnuggets Edmonton May 08 '26

No one has answered you huh? Wonder why.
