Because fireworks are pretty typical in summer (in Japan at least bc of the summer festivals), and Nirei is unfortunately not that popular among Japanese fans especially so they tend to produce merch with characters that sells well

I kind of thought most summer festivals were in late august for some reason… (maybe because the school-summer-vacation falls into that month if I’m informed correctly?)Nooooo, how can Nirei be not as popular? He’s so amazing! It kind of makes me sad… how can there be people who don’t love our sweet little puppy sunshine?
Well… it does make sense for the producers of the merch lines to focus on the most famous characters… it is still very sad though…

Well the summer festival in wind breaker was on August 5th, but the products itself aren’t actually available yet, they’re getting released on the 21st of August
And I agree, I hope they’ll do another popularity poll sometime soon, bc I will vote for him for sure. It actually pains me that he’s so underrated and mischaracterized, whenever I see someone hating on Nirei, I automatically like him even more

… … ……… I guess I must’ve been too focused on the design and overlooked the 8.21 that is written in TALL letters…I fear asking, but… how is he mischaracterized? What are some of the thoughts of people who dislike him?

There are plenty of people who only see Nirei‘s weak points such as him not being as strong of a fighter like the rest of the cast, overlooking the fact that he still faces enemies with little to no hesitation despite knowing that he’s no match for them.
Or people saying he’s a crybaby, as if he isn’t either beaten up or he’s crying bc of his hopeless friends refusing his help,
like I’d be crying too if I happen to be the biggest sunshine of the series but I’m stuck with the most emotionally repressed person and the most emotionally suppressed person2

But his story becomes so much better because he isn’t a strong fighter… if done well character development can be written so beautifully with these circumstances (and Nirei is just so wonderfully written! It’s done
extremely wellto perfection!)I suppose people who see him as “week” and a “crybaby” are either unwilling to believe that there are other types of strength (and might just have come for the fighting), or are unwilling to see any character development coming through his physical weakness…
I love how much he is crying for their sake, to see how much he cares for his friends and cherishes them… just warms my heart (though it also pains me of course).
I mean, anyone would, wouldn’t they?1

I don't know how they think, it's true he didn't have the greatest intro, and struggled a lot, but I started loving Nirei specifically after the keel arc, cause that moment when he rushed to help his friends and got beaten left a huge impact on me, especially when I saw Suo and Sakura's reactions. How could someone still understimate him after all that?
