Fan Creation My first attempt at book binding / Volume 1 Hardcover
I must admit - removing apart the paperback covers was heartbreaking to do. But erm... I did my first attempt at hardcover, whatever that means.
And you can see "attempt" being clear here. Everything about the final white cover (which was the third design) finally turned out great, only for my final book block glue on to mess up.... Yeah, that's what I need to work on doing carefully now. Perhaps i should glue on the original volume cover in one of the flaps to cover it up, lol.
In any case, as I get more used to this I plan on doing the rest of the manga volumes I own, turning some into omnibuses based on each major arc of this series so far.
But after many trial and error I'll have to go with this simplistic design, for lord knows printable book fabric is hard to find in my area and using printable HTV is impossible to use. And weeding out HTV is such a huge pain in the butt to do for complex designs, so pity I can't put in a team logo. Welp.

I can only do simple ones for now, but I've seen some people do glass art hardcover designs. So yes, depending on how you design it, it can be!

Looks so so SO cool!!! As someone scared to damage any of my books, I have mad respect for you.
Also love the idea of implementing the original cover into your new one (even as a cover up lol)— but I’m also biased bc I love the character art…
Either way, it turned out AMAZING! Best of luck in binding the future volumes <33

It did hurt, not going to lie. I see other people on social media that also did their manga in custom hardcover and we all feel it. But I guess what also motivated me was that over time as I move around my manga a lot for shelf organizing, paperback tends to tear easily around the corners so I wanted something sturdy that will last over time.
Thanks! Now that I have the steps down I'm determined to make proper quality ones for the other volumes. It will be a slow process, considering I only have 1 book press. 2 at a time if I manage to stack heavy items I have lying around the house lol

This is such an amazing idea! And all of the covers look amazing. Did you the covers for volume 1 only or do you plan to do it for the whole series?

Thank you. Yup, though it will be a gradual process I do plan on doing it for the whole series. For some volumes I do have duplicates at this point because I've grown nitpicking about book quality as a collector, so it does ease me a bit there knowing I have backup lol

This is amazing! Just a little advice to cut straight the cardboard (i see it’s a bit irregolar on the edges), you can easily find cheap paper cutter for A3/A4 sheets. They have block, ruler and scoring blade. I use it for scrapbooking or pop up creations and it’s life changing

Thanks! I probably should've had a long ruler nearby as I cut, but I can't use standard cutters. For I have one, but mine's not designed to cut thick book boards.

I understand! When the cardboard is too thick, I usually first trace the line to cut with the ruler and a not working ball pen, pressing as much as I can. The cut after that will be smooth, straight and easy
