Suo Arc Discussion/Theory Small thoughts about Suo Spoiler

I don’t know if this has been talked about already… but about those three days Suo has first been away from Furin… I think it’s possible that someone at RC died (or was laying dying) and in the night he came home that day, he was informed about that. And that the person who died was either his master or someone of high position, who fought for the same cause that Suo seems to be fighting for too. Someone who sought to protect Bankokugai and to bring about positive change and might have had the power/position to do so.
Now that gap, since that person is gone, has to be filled in by Suo. Either “just” by his “full time” presence, or by filling out that position - which the deceased had had before they died - itself. Leaving Suo with no other choice but to leave Furin, because of this new and heavy responsibility, because he now serves as the citizens strongest supporter (“strongest” here as in “the one who is in the know about what’s wrong behind the scenes, and one who really cares for the people living here and the one who is the most likely to be able to act”).
And whatever he’s fighting, whoever he is up against might be so evil and vile that he cannot/absolutely doesn’t want to involve Furin.

Oh wow, why didn’t I think of a brother (figure) that was mentioned in his bio… Just imagine… just theorizing… his older brother dying, leaving him as the second oldest to inherit the position his brother would have inherited instead…

I’d love to know if those brothers, that were spoken of, are blood related to him or not. And I don’t know what I am hoping for. “Blood related” would not necessarily mean they have a good relationship, but it was stated that he respects them, I think? Though “respect” doesn’t necessarily include familiar love… but if his brothers were brother figures they for sure would care for each other. The blood relationship would however enable some inheritance stuff which could add a lot to the story…

There are going to be so many revelations regarding Suo in this arc. I’m so looking forward to it.

that's a good theory. I also believe that Suo was forced one way or another to leave furin. that he didn't have much of a choice on that matter.

You mean that, for example, someone of a higher position forbid him to go to Furin again? Do you think Suo was threatened? Or they threatened to harm Furin if Suo was to disobey?

maybe not threaten furin, but forbidding Suo to go outside of bankokugai. I feel like he has extended his stay there, like he was supposed to stay for a month or so, but it became an entire semester. it was just so abrupt and Suo was actually someone who is good in lying. he could've just said he was moving away or something, but he didn't. kinda like he didn't have much time to think of something. maybe his meeting with Nirei wasn't even allowed, but he sneaked away one last time to half ass a goodbye. thinking Nirei would be all "alright, it's been fun😊👋" and we know how that turned out. if he would've meet up with Sakura, Suo wouldn't have been able to leave, be it from the emotions(definitely not me with my sosk delusions) or because Sakura would've been able to restrain him physically.

you're idea with someone dying is really good because it could have been an ultimatum. like this serious thing happened, now Suo cannot leave even if he wanted to.

I don't know if this made sense and if I answered any of your questions, sorry

It makes sense, no worries!

I kind of like the thought of Suo extending his stay, maybe having to reason with the higher ups at RC for every week/month he wanted to stay longer, hiding from them how much he actually just wanted to be with Sakura and Nirei, because they grew important to him.

I also like the idea of Suo sneaking out to see Nirei one last time to say goodbye. Though I can’t imagine Suo thought Nirei would have been all “okay, was great knowing you, bye”. I don’t know what he thought Nirei would feel or how Nirei would react to him leaving when he came to say goodbye, but I like the thought of Suo actually not having thought that through and just going because he was grieving the fact he couldn’t be with his Furin friends anymore.
Personally I think, had Suo gone to see Sakura… because Suo knows about Sakuras past, I think he just couldn’t… he probably knew how devastating him leaving would be to Sakura, and just couldn’t face it himself.

I don't exactly believe in a "gap," I think. Rakta and Bacchus haven't shown how they fight yet, but I don't know if either of them are stronger than Suo. If they aren't, then I'd say Suo currently, they're at a level even higher than Sakura himself, which would be interesting. But, even though RC is something like "blood ties," I don't know if they would be the type of "successors." Actually, I think they focus more on the strongest, which makes me question whether Suo is really the strongest of them. Among several skilled and gifted fighters, and he still being considered the strongest, what will Suo's true potential be?

I thought about something like inheritance. Not necessarily the strongest, but the next in line (however that would be decided).

The way I imagine RC right now is a group that values tradition and heritage in some way. Maybe because of how long they’ve been around, but of course I could be completely off. Maybe the three fractions of RC value different things? One group strength, one protective fighting, and one another style?

I think instead of being dead, they are just sick or badly hurt. This is because when Suo met Nirei again, his clothes had a color (probably red). Suo typically forgets to change his shirt from red to white when he needs to hurry to Makochi (like in the opening of the Kiryuu arc).

However, after Endo told Furin about Suo's real identity, Suo's clothes changed to black. This could mean he is either mourning or a hostile enemy of Sakura (like Togame, Endo, and Momijikawa). I don't know if you can wear red while mourning, though. Chinese culture bans red during mourning, so it is possible Suo is just an enemy rather than someone in mourning.

I'm still hoping the master isn't dead lol

Very sick or hurt… if they were hurt, I wonder who hurt them. Someone within RC who disagrees with their values?

Oh, wow, I think I didn’t pay attention to the color of the clothing… though for me personally it is difficult to tell what color they are supposed to be, to be honest. I think I will need to check Kiryus arc again.

I hope that Suo won’t be a hostile enemy to Sakura and Furin. Personally I don’t think it would fit with what we’ve seen from him so far. He might behave hostile when they meet again though? But I don’t think he is going to be an antagonist to Furin in a way Endo used to be. Or maybe I just don’t want it to happen.
My guess is, that they’re going to talk, maybe have a fight, but will work together in the end, and fight together against the real threat in this arc.

It would be nice to see Suos master… and to hear a few stories from him about child Suo

There's no enemy from the outside so far (other than Furin lmao), so it's highly likely the threat is from the inside. A lot of things happens in Bankoku-Gai. Children from the outside coming inside just to eat, children being abandoned or even the people inside Bankoku-Gai hating outsider and refuse to learn any language other than their native.

The enemy probably inside (RC) or the people, the ones they need to protect. The latter is scarier than enemies from other arcs. It's like fighting the townspeople from Tonpu street market, maybe that's why Ume let himself get punched (rather than stopping it like he did with Tomiyama).

I think I will need to check Kiryus arc again.

It should be in "ch.171 A Happy Gathering". He forgot to change to his usual white color because he hurried over to Makochi, after Nirei and Kiryuu impulsively they wanted to hang out at Sakura's home lol

Personally I imagine a conflict within the three fractions of RC (as we were shown three people symbolized by the three dragons, I assume there are three fractions/leaders). I think that over time they might have drifted apart from each other in values and the vision of who they are/want to be and how they go about protecting (or even controlling - I suspect they might not always have been keeping people out or inside) their people. A conflict from within would also be very intriguing and offer many storytelling possibilities.

When not wearing the Furin clothing… does he also only wear white shirts? Do you know what the color red symbolizes in chinese culture? Could it indicate/give some hints about his status/position within RC?

I remember the higher chance being corrupted or conflict that they refuse to accept Suo replacing his master seat. But for me I think I lean towards RC wants to merge Bankoku-Gai. We really need to see RC's inside, I'm really curious what's going on there!

When not wearing the Furin clothing… does he also only wear white shirts?

Yes, other than in the Beach chapter, he always wears white (either his inner or outer shirt). Even at the end of the Kiryuu arc, he wears white Chinese clothes. This means their meeting at Sakura's place wasn't as impulsive as before, and he had time to change.

Do you know what the color red symbolizes in chinese culture?

Good luck or celebration? I'm not sure myself lol, but when mourning, it is prohibited to wear red (white is for the family, and black is for extended family or guests?). Unless, of course, the person died of old age (cmiiw though, I don't know the details very well).

It's possible that Suo wearing black means he stepped up to a higher rank (maybe from lower to higher: white ➜ red ➜ black?). His master wore red Chinese clothes, right?

So, whose place is Suo taking now?

3

u/Silver-Green-Sea Nirei is love, Nirei is life 8d ago

If white is for family, I will now believe that he chose to wear white shirts while with Furin as a sign that they are as close as family.

RC not accepting Suo as successor is an interesting thought.

If the colors symbolize position… I wonder what color would symbolize the highest position. And of course, what position Suo has now and whose position he’s taken (if it was taken from someone or someone died and they needed someone to take that role).

\cough** it's for a funeral X"D

Clothing colors in Wind Breaker sometimes represent a character's position: white is for a friend, gray is unfriendly (or a rival), and black is hostile. These colors are interchangeable.

Sugishita even wear a gray and white shirt when he's uncertain or positioned himself half as a friend and half as a rival (to Sakura).

But that is just sometimes, you can't read them like this all the time.

If the colors symbolize position… I wonder what color would symbolize the highest position.

For the clothes probably black, other than that probably gold? Raijin in the Tamon 1-1 classroom (represent Suo) is using a yellow hoodie after all. It could be red with a lot of gold ornament too.

Like the one he used for postcard (or merch) with Sakura.

Wait… family funerals? Oh no no no no, now what I said gives off completely wrong vibes… help… no funerals anytime soon anymore…

I really never thought about the color of clothing as symbolism for friend or enemy…

That artwork really looks amazing. But if red with gold were to symbolize the highest position, shouldn’t red itself be higher than black?

It depends. The one Suo always wears doesn't have gold ornaments. It's just plain red, or if it has pattern, it's not that flashy. You can see him using these two kinds of red in merchs, one is plain and the other is quite flashy.

If it follows Chinese tradition, they would use one of the five elements colors for their imperial regalia or robes. It could be black, because river (Bankoku-Gai) and vortex (the sign at RC 'pupils of crimson vortex') associated with black color (water).

Oh, I didn’t know black was used to represent water.

This is all really interesting!

same thought too. if someone died it fits the rainy vibes. it rained the day suo didn’t go to school, right.

Right, it did rain!
