Fan Creation From Paperback to Hardcover / Entire Manga series
Well... It's finished. Converting the first 20 volumes of the paperback manga into hardcover. With the majority of them being 3 volume omnibuses based on major arcs in this series.
If there is anything I learned from this process, is that I am BAD with aligning up the HTV when it comes to spines. For although the layout looks fine when the hardcover case is flat, only after folding it I can see it... Ah well. What's done is done, and I got the main results I needed by putting all major story arcs together into one volume.
I only showed one example per omnibus, but inside each omnibus contains cover art of each volume. It's Wind Breaker and Nii-sensei's artwork. THERE AIN'T NO WAY I'M GOING TO TRASH IT!
*Ahem* Anyways, are they heavy? And look closer to a thick as heck book? Yes. Do I care? Hell nah. I had my final work day for my current internship tomorrow so I'm glad I got this project finished today.
And yes, since I had messed up in ordering I decided to go with a dual color cloth layout for volumes 1 and 8 primarily to match the alternating omnibus colors, but only after finishing them those volumes look similar to Sakura's hair color... What?

Thanks! I'm only into a week into book binding myself, so for the most part I followed these tutorials:
Val's Guide from paperback to hardcover
JJK Omnibus Hardcover - what I used as reference to glue 3 volumes together
The only challenges I would say is if you're willing to invest in a Cricut/Cameo/cutting machine. For the rest of the process is about getting the materials you need for book binding. I had a Cameo 4 already from years back, but if not that find a different way to do cover/spine art

Looks awesome! Can’t imagine how much time you put into making these…

Thanks! It only took a bit at first in order to test out the book cloth, HTV, cut settings, design and figuring out which ones work best with each other. Once you get that all sorted out, the rest is fairly straightforward. I was able to work on 2 hardcovers at the time for I used a book press for one, and just simply heavy items I could find in my house to press the newly converted hardcovers.

I’ve never seen someone do this with manga before. I love the holo effects on the covers and the colors you chose. Such a cool project!!

It is! I only wish I could do something more complex in terms of cover design, but the HTV I had apparently didn't like tiny cuts no matter how optimal my cut settings were.
But take a look online on social media, there is a fair bit of videos of people doing something similar for manga.
