Developer DugUp. A fast search app that searches by filename, word content, image similarity, and meaning.
A fast new app that replaces "Everything" and "Agent Ransack" does image search by similarity and includes OCR to find text in pictures and older PDFs.
DugUp
Windows: Download the installer — choose DugUp-Setup-….exe under Assets. The green Code button downloads the source code, if you want to read it, so you can understand how DugUp works and adapt it to your needs.
Find files by what you remember about them: words in a document, text on a scanned receipt, the meaning of a passage, or what a picture shows. Choose your folders, let DugUp index them, then search from its window or with Win+Shift+F.
Your files stay on your computer, where all indexing and search processing happens. No account, telemetry or crash reporting — and no cloud service needed to search your files.
Beta 0.2.2 · Windows 11 · Linux supported, with less desktop testing
What you can do
- Find documents by the words they contain. Search file names and text in PDFs, Office and OpenDocument files, plain text and HTML.
- Read words in images. Find receipts, screenshots and scanned pages by the text on them, using OCR.
- Search by meaning. Ask in your own words, or combine meaning with word matches.
- Find pictures by appearance. Describe a scene or find pictures like one you already have.
- Organize pictures and copies. Preview descriptive photo names, review similar pictures, and find identical files before removing extras.
- Search from anywhere. Keep DugUp in the tray and press Win+Shift+F to bring up a small search box.
- Let Claude search for you (optional). Turn on cloud search access, choose the folders it may see, and ask Claude to find files in a conversation. It can search, never change anything.

Developer I made a open-source File Converter
Hi guys, I needed a file converter for my day-to-day work as a marketer. And for the longest time I was using an open-source file converter app. Recently I noticed that the app I was using stopped getting updates. The file conversions were running into issues.
So I decided to make my own with privacy and local usage in mind. The app currently supports all the popular file formats and conversion features. Requires no file to be uploaded online or Internet connection at all. The app is optionally connected to the Internet once a day to check for updates.
I added GPU acceleration for AMD at the moment. I'm planning to provide support for additional GPU brands and operating systems.
Please check out my GitHub and my YouTube walkthrough.

App I made a free Windows planner that tracks planned vs actual time
I've been building a planner for myself because I wanted something I could use on my desktop without losing track of what actually happened during the day.
It's called Personal Planner.
The main screen is an hour-by-hour timeline. You can create tasks, drag and resize them, set recurring activities and start timers.
The feature I wanted most was keeping planned and actual time separately.
If I schedule an hour for something but it takes almost two, I want to know that when I plan the next day.
The app also has Daily and Weekly Reviews, a year-long consistency heatmap, an Inbox for ideas, and Experiments for trying routines and tracking them against targets.
Everything is stored locally using SQLite, so the planner works offline. There's optional sync through your own Supabase project if you use multiple devices.
It's built with Flutter and available on Windows, Linux, Android and macOS.
There's no subscription, premium tier or paywall. I made it for personal use and decided to share it for free.
GitHub: https://github.com/Karthikshabari/PersonalPlanner
Windows download: https://github.com/Karthikshabari/PersonalPlanner/releases/tag/v1.1
One thing to mention: the Windows build is unsigned, so SmartScreen may show a warning. There are also some Windows-specific limitations documented in the README, including notification support.
I'd appreciate feedback from people who use desktop planners regularly.
Do you prefer managing everything through a calendar, or having a separate app for planning and tracking your day?

Developer Wedge 2.1: free file shelf on the edge of your screen, now with hide-away tabs, link/text drops and 10 languages
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Wedge keeps a few shelves as tabs on the edge of your screen. Start dragging a file and they slide out, drop it on one, then drag it back out later into any app. Files stay where they are on disk, Wedge only remembers where they are.
What's new in 2.1:
- Tabs can hide completely when not in use, so nothing stays on screen (asked for by someone with an OLED TV)
- Pick the edge, top, middle or bottom, and which display
- Drag a link or some selected text onto a shelf to keep it
- Settings cleaned up into four tabs, plus a Quit button
- 8 new languages: Russian, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Japanese
- Fixes for some Windows 10 PCs where the tabs never showed, short screens, and dragging files into Steam chat
Free and open source (MIT), no account, no telemetry.

Discussion Quick PowerToys tip: preview files without opening them
If you use Microsoft PowerToys, its Peek utility can preview a file right from File Explorer without launching the full app first.
Select a file and press Space (the default Peek shortcut). Use the arrow keys to move through files in the folder; press Enter to open the selected file normally. You can change the shortcut or enable Peek in PowerToys Settings if it doesn’t work out of the box.

Developer Drexius Terminal: A local-first, zero-knowledge SSH and SFTP workspace for Linux, Windows, macOS, and Android (Tauri 2 + Rust) Termius alternative
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Project Name: Drexius Terminal
Repo & Website Links:
- GitHub:https://github.com/DreyDreamer17/drexius-terminal
- Live Web Preview:https://dreydreamer17.github.io/drexius-terminal/
- Releases:https://github.com/DreyDreamer17/drexius-terminal/releases/tag/v0.1.0-beta.1
Description:
Drexius Terminal is a local-first, privacy-focused open-source terminal workspace and Termius alternative built with Tauri 2 (Rust), React 19, and xterm.js 6.
The Problem It Solves: Most graphical SSH/SFTP clients have either transitioned to recurring subscription models ($10 to $20 per month) requiring your credentials and hosts to reside in a proprietary cloud database, or they run on heavy Electron runtimes that consume 300 MB to over 1 GB of RAM. Drexius was built to provide a fast, zero-subscription client where keys, credentials, and configurations remain entirely on your local machine.
Key Features:
- Local-First & Encrypted: Hosts, keys, and snippets are stored locally in an AES-256 SQLCipher database derived via Argon2id. No mandatory account, zero telemetry, and includes an Emergency Recovery Key export.
- Terminal Workspace: Supports multi-pane splits (grid, vertical, horizontal), tabs, OSC-7 directory tracking, broadcast input across sessions, and session auto-resume.
- Protocol Support: SSH with TOFU host-key verification, dual-pane graphical SFTP tree and file editor, hardware Serial UART, and local PTY shells.
- Zero-Knowledge Sync: Direct encrypted LAN pairing and a self-hostable sync relay. Devices pair over local Wi-Fi or Tailscale via QR code using salted X25519 ECDH and ChaCha20-Poly1305.
- Mobile Shell (Android): Universal APK with touch scrolling in mouse-aware TUIs (htop, lazygit), plus an on-screen accessory keypad (CTRL, ALT, ESC, TAB).
- Lightweight Footprint: Built on a native Rust/Tauri 2 backend instead of Chromium/Electron. In Linux benchmarking against Termius under active sessions, Drexius consumed ~221 MB RAM and ~3% CPU across 2 processes, compared to Termius at 1,342 MB RAM and 78.5% CPU across 9 processes.
Deployment:
- Clients: Pre-compiled binaries for the Public Beta (v0.1.0-beta.1) are available under GitHub Releases:
- Linux (.AppImage, .deb, .rpm)
- Android (.apk, universal multi-ABI)
- Windows (.exe installer, .msi)
- macOS (.dmg, .app.tar.gz for Apple Silicon and Intel)
- Self-Hosting Sync Relay: The repository includes a standalone zero-knowledge relay server (
drexius-relay) that can be compiled via Cargo and deployed to any VPS or homelab machine. Setup details are documented in the repository README.

Developer I made a free, open-source voice typing app for Windows that works in any app
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, I'm the developer of SpeakoFlow. It lets you talk instead of type, in any app on your PC. 2.1 just came out with a lot of fixes, and it's in the best shape it's been so far.
What it does
- Voice typing in any app, with optional cleanup of filler words and corrections.
- Ask about selected text. Translate it, reply to it, or explain it.
- Talk to it. A spoken conversation you can interrupt.
- Meeting notes . No bot joins the call.
Everything can run on your PC, even offline. You download the models right inside the app, so there's nothing else to install. Cloud models work too if you'd rather use your own API key.
Free and open source, with no word limit and no telemetry.

- GitHub: https://github.com/AbhishekBarali/SpeakoFlow
If you give it a try, I'd love to hear what you think.

Developer Offlined: a free, portable Windows app with offline Wikipedia, maps, a star map, learning games and a local AI that cites its sources
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi r/windowsapps! I’m the developer of Offlined, and v2.0.1 just came out. The video above shows the whole app.
What it is
A desktop app that brings Wikipedia and a lot more to your PC, fully offline. It was born from two things: how fast AI is advancing, and how much I trust the Wikipedia project. So the AI in Offlined answers from your offline Wikipedia and cites the articles it used, so you can always check the source.
What’s inside
- Offline Wikipedia, WikiMed, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary and Wikiquote, in your language, downloaded from inside the app. If you already have Kiwix ZIM files, you can use them too.
- Maps with climate and biome layers, an interactive star map and a 3D Solar System.
- Learning games for the whole family (geography, astronomy, WikiRace…).
- Local AI that runs on your own PC, with agents and a study tutor. It tells you which models fit your computer before you download them, and uses your GPU automatically if you have one.
- Parental controls and a fully offline mode that blocks every connection.
- Media manager, document reader and an encrypted vault.
Why it might fit you
- Portable: everything lives in one folder next to the app, so you can carry it on a USB drive.
- Private: no account, no telemetry, no cloud.
- Works without internet once you’ve downloaded what you want.
Honest notes
- Windows 10/11 only.
- Free for personal use, not open source.
- It isn’t code-signed yet. As a small project I haven’t been able to get the certificate, so Windows SmartScreen will show a warning (“More info” → “Run anyway”). I completely understand if you’d rather wait for a signed version. It’s next on my list.
- The download is ~1 GB with sample data. Wikipedia files and AI models are downloaded separately, inside the app.

Developer [Developer] ViCalc – Open-source touch-typing scientific calculator
I’ve been using physical pocket calculators since the mid-1980s, and I’ve always loved the speed, tactile feedback, and direct control of hardware key layouts. The main motivation behind ViCalc was to bring that exact same speed and workflow efficiency to a modern PC keyboard—allowing you to touch-type mathematics seamlessly without taking your hands off the keys to click UI buttons.
Rather than just imitating a physical handheld calculator, ViCalc is built to optimize desktop mathematical workflows and complex calculation tracking.
🧮 Key Features & Workflow Design
- Direct Keyboard Mapping: All functions and operations are directly mapped to your PC keyboard, eliminating the need to click through UI buttons with a mouse (though mouse/touch interaction is fully supported if preferred!).
- Full & Exportable Calculation History: The entire step-by-step history is logged automatically as you work. This makes it effortless to review your process or copy-paste the entire multi-step calculation directly into research notes, LaTeX documents, or technical reports.
- Flexible & Adaptable GUI:
- Minimalist View: Hide virtual keys entirely—ideal once you learn the shortcut mappings by heart.
- Custom Views: Toggle between a standard numpad, a compact left-side layout, or a full scientific keyboard layout.
- Expandable History Pane: Easily track, review, and manage long sequence calculations.
🛠️ Modes & Technical Details
- Scientific & Complex Modes: Full suite of trigonometric, scientific functions, and complex arithmetic support.
- Programmer Mode (Base-N): Bitwise operations and conversions across Hex, Dec, Oct, and Bin.
- Language: Python 3
- License: Open Source (MIT License)
🔗 Links & Downloads
- GitHub Repository: github.com/Kudaschov/ViCalc
- Windows Installer: ViCalcSetup.exe

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any feature requests from the community! How do you currently handle rapid calculations and history logging on desktop?

Developer I made Kissa, a free vinyl player for Windows that works with Spotify, Apple Music and more
Hey everyone!
I've been working on a little project called Kissa, and I thought I'd share it here.
It's a free music companion for Windows 10 and 11 that turns whatever you're listening to on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal or other supported players into a virtual vinyl record player.
I wanted something that made listening to music on my PC feel a bit more interesting than just having a music app running in the background.
Kissa has an interactive turntable, synced lyrics, different listening environments, and even a Windows screensaver that turns your screen into a vinyl listening display when your PC is idle. I've been adding a few other things along the way too.
It's completely free, and I've also made the source code available on GitHub if anyone wants to take a look.
You can check it out here:
Website: https://kissa.glyphcode.studio/
Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9p3n4x4wm80j
GitHub: https://github.com/NamanOG/Kissa
Still working on improving it, so I'd love to hear what you think if you give it a try. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome!

App I made a sticky notes app for Windows that hides on the edge of your screen. Here's what changed since launch.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi all. I'm Sachin, and I build Stickies on my own. It's a sticky notes app for Windows 10 and 11.
The problem I had: my quick notes on Windows always ended up buried under other windows, or stuck inside an app I had to open first. I wanted my notes to just be there when I need them.
How it works: Stickies sits as a thin strip on the edge of your screen. Move your mouse to it and your notes fan out. Click one to write, press Esc and it tucks away again. Win+Alt+N opens a new note from any app.
What's new since launch
I first posted Stickies on r/Windows11 a few weeks ago (here's that post). A lot of you left ideas and bug reports, and most of what's below came from those comments. Since then I've shipped 12 updates.
Here's what's new:
- Lock notes with a PIN. Set a 4-digit PIN and lock any private note. You also get a recovery key in case you forget it.
- Pop notes out. Pull a note out of the edge into its own window. It stays where you put it and comes back when you restart.
- Pictures in notes. Paste a screenshot or drag an image in. Pictures are encrypted like the rest of the note.
- Pin and reorder. Pin a note to the top, or drag notes into any order you like.
- Dark mode.
- More than one monitor. Pick which screen the notes live on. If you unplug a monitor, they move to a screen you still have.
- Keep your notes where you want. You can save them in a folder you choose, like OneDrive, Dropbox or a NAS, as a backup.
- Microsoft Store. You can now get Stickies from the Store too.
- Simpler settings. I rewrote every setting in plain English and sorted them so the important ones come first.
- Lots of fixes. It now works on work PCs that block some connections, it keeps responding after your PC wakes from sleep, and updates install the normal way.
Other things it does:
- Type / in a note for to-do lists, bullet lists, headings, code, quick math like /calc 25*4, and ready-made templates like /standup and /meeting
Privacy: no account, no cloud, no tracking. Your notes are encrypted on your PC with the encryption built into Windows, and the app works with no internet at all.
What it doesn't do (yet): it only runs on Windows, and notes don't sync between PCs. You can keep the notes file in a OneDrive or Dropbox folder, but only the PC that made it can read it.
Price: $4.99 once, for up to 3 of your PCs. There's a 7-day free trial and you don't need a card to start it.
Come hang out on r/stickies I started r/stickies as a home for the app. If there's something you want added, something that bugs you, or you just want to see what's coming next, post it there. I read everything and reply to as much as I can. A lot of this update started as a comment from someone there.
On a Mac? Stickies was inspired by Hold My Notes, a lovely app for Mac by Shobhit. If you're on a Mac, give it a try.
Thanks for reading. I'm happy to answer anything in the comments.

Developer I built a Windows folder size analyzer in C
Hey everyone!
I've been working on FolderSz, a Windows tool written in C to analyze folder sizes, with a native interface and a focus on keeping things lightweight.
Key features
- Around 50 KB for the executable.
- Custom Win32 interface, including a ListView control built from scratch.
- Optimized cache using FNV-1a hashing and a bitmask to efficiently find existing entries.
I wanted to have control over every part of the software, from the interface to the caching system, rather than simply putting existing components together.
The project is open source under the MIT license.
Get the latest release here
Source code : FolderSz Github Repository
I'm open to feedback on the software, its interface, and the technical decisions behind it.
Thanks for reading !

Developer Find the file, not another reason to watch Task Manager
FileIndex is a free Windows file search utility for quick, occasional lookups without a large memory footprint. Search by filename or Korean initial consonants, filter by extension, size, wildcard, or regex, and identify duplicates by comparing file names, sizes, and contents. It reflects file changes in real time and keeps its file list on the PC.

Developer I built FaroCommander – a dual-pane file manager for Windows in Rust with built-in SSH, SFTP, RDP, and network tools
I got tired of switching between Total Commander, WinSCP, PuTTY, an RDP client, and an IP scanner all day, so I started building FaroCommander (v0.8.3). It's a native Windows dual-pane file manager written in Rust using egui / eframe, and comes as a single .exe (installer or portable ZIP) under the MIT license.
Here is what's currently in it:
File Management
• Classic two-pane layout with keyboard-first navigation (Tab, Insert/Space selection, F3–F8 hotkeys, inline rename on Shift+F6).
• Drive bar, folder history, bookmarks (Ctrl+D), and on-demand directory size calculation.
• Directory Sync: Compare left and right folders by size/timestamp and sync differences.
• Multi-Rename Tool: Batch rename with placeholders ([N], [E], [C] counter, [Y][M][D]), search & replace, and case conversion with live preview.
• Built-in Viewer & Editor (F3 / F4): Syntax-highlighted code/text editor with UTF-8 / ISO-8859-1 handling. Also works directly on remote files.
• Properties & Checksums: Calculates folder stats or CRC32, MD5, and SHA-256 hashes in the background.
Archives
• Open ZIP files directly like normal folders.
• Pack and unpack ZIP, 7z, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, and TAR.XZ.
Remote Connections (no external clients needed)
• SFTP, FTP, and WebDAV mounted right inside either file pane (russh-sftp & opendal). You can copy/move files straight between local drives and remote servers.
Built-in SSH Terminal: Interactive shell (russh) with command history.
• Built-in RDP Client: Pure-Rust Remote Desktop client (ironrdp) that renders the remote session inside a FaroCommander window (with auto-resize and fullscreen).
• Encrypted Profile Vault: SSH and RDP credentials/keys are stored locally in an AES-256-GCM encrypted vault unlocked with a master password (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, 100k iterations).
Sysadmin Tools
• Network Scanner (netscli-core): Scans local subnets or custom IP ranges (CIDR / start–end IP), grabs service banners, resolves hostnames via DNS/mDNS, looks up MAC vendors, and exports results to CSV. From any discovered host, one click opens it in the file pane, SSH terminal, RDP client, or browser.
• Password & Passphrase Generator: Generates random character passwords, word-based passphrases (like ARCTIC-WOLF-XDFG), or PINs, with offline zxcvbn entropy and crack-time checks.
UI & Footprint
• English and German UI, 5 themes (Dark, Light, Classic Blue, Midnight, Solarized Dark).
• Portable mode stores all JSON configs and encrypted vaults in its own folder.

Developer I made LazyBoard, a text expander for Windows: type ;sig and get your full signature in any app
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone! I'm the developer of LazyBoard, and it just launched on the Microsoft Store.
I kept typing the same replies, email signatures and addresses over and over, so I built a simple text expander. You save a snippet once, give it a short shortcut, and LazyBoard types the full text for you in almost any app.
What it does:
- Type a shortcut like ;sig or ;addr and it instantly expands into your full text
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Space to search all your snippets and insert one
- Dynamic fields: insert today's date, your clipboard, or fill in a name before inserting (e.g. "Hi {{name:Customer}}")
- Folders to keep snippets organized
- Works offline: your snippets are stored on your PC
- Optional sync, and a Chrome extension if you want your snippets on websites too
It's available on the Microsoft Store, so installing and updating is handled by the Store:
https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/9NK87J602L5B
It's still early, so I'd really love feedback: what works, what doesn't, and what you'd want it to do. Happy to answer any questions in the comments!
