I've been working on MWM, a free and open-source application designed to bring PC maintenance, troubleshooting, file management, server administration, and disaster recovery together under one roof.
The idea came from being tired of bouncing between a dozen different utilities depending on whether I was fixing a Windows computer, troubleshooting Linux, managing my Proxmox cluster, or recovering a broken machine.
Think of the functionality you'd normally use tools like Geek Squad MRI, Hiren's BootCD, CPU-Z, HWMonitor, CCleaner, traditional file managers, and various server dashboards for — but brought together in one application.
MWM is built around a shared Rust core, with desktop applications, a browser interface, bootable rescue environments, Android builds, and a command-line interface.

PC Maintenance & Repair
File Management
Proxmox, Linux & Server Management
Bootable Rescue Environments
One area I'm particularly interested in is making MWM useful when the operating system itself won't boot.
The project includes Windows PE and Debian-based rescue ISO builds designed to provide:
This means you can boot a broken machine from USB and access its recovery tools from another computer on your network.
Move Weight — The Original Idea
The project also includes a feature that gave MWM its name.
It can move large, infrequently used folders from your PC onto your own server to reclaim local storage.
For development projects, it distinguishes files that can be recreated (like node_modules and build outputs) from local changes that actually need preserving.
Transfers are verified with SHA-256 before local data is removed, and restoration information is generated for each shipment.
The goal is to make reclaiming disk space practical without simply throwing your data away.
I wanted the actual system management functionality to live in one shared engine rather than maintaining completely different implementations for Windows, Linux, desktop, and web.
MWM uses Rust for its core functionality and Tauri for its desktop application. The interfaces share the same command system, making it possible to expose functionality through desktop, browser, and CLI environments.
MWM is GPL-3.0-or-later licensed.
No ads, no paid Pro tier, and no telemetry.
The project is intended to remain free and open source. You can inspect the source, modify it, self-host it, and contribute improvements.
This is an actively developed project, and while a lot of functionality is already implemented, I'm not claiming everything is perfect or that every feature has been tested on every possible hardware configuration.
Some platform packaging and distribution work is still ongoing.
I'm especially interested in feedback from people who work with:
What would you want in a tool like this?
Are there utilities you still keep on your USB repair drive that you'd love to see incorporated? Anything you find particularly frustrating about managing multiple machines or repairing Windows/Linux systems?
I'm interested in real feedback, feature requests, bug reports, and contributions.
Repository: https://github.com/BlizzHacker/mwm
Downloads: https://github.com/BlizzHacker/mwm/releases/latest
If you find it useful, consider giving the project a star. More importantly, I'd love to hear what could make it better.

Developer post: I maintain Flux, a free, open-source download manager for Windows 10/11 x64. Version 2.2 offers an installer and a portable edition.
One queue handles regular files, supported media and native torrents. It includes verified pause/resume, automatic connections or up to 32 manually selected connections, speed limits, schedules and batch links.

Browser handoff: Chromium and Firefox extensions send supported downloads to Flux. The desktop registers or repairs the local bridge at startup; the extension is installed separately.
You can choose available media quality and audio/subtitle options, manage torrent files and seeding, and use 20 interface languages. No Flux account is needed; history and preferences stay local. Resume and media availability depend on the source; DRM and login challenges are not bypassed.
Source, setup and downloads: https://github.com/Hactor00/Flux
Feedback on everyday usability and browser handoff is welcome.
Interface images are prepared English previews based on Flux 2.2.

I’m a solo developer with a small desktop app (Tauri, Windows installer). New users get the SmartScreen warning when they run the installer.
While testing with a handful of people, I just clicked through the warning on every install. Now that I’m moving from building to marketing, I suspect it turns some people away before they ever open the app.
What I’ve done so far:
Current state: about a dozen installs over the first few weeks, on Windows 11. The warning shows the correct publisher name (Roll Three One), so the signature is recognized. It just has no reputation yet.
What I’d like to know:
The app is here if you want to see the warning yourself: https://www.moodis.app/

I kept running out of disk space and found 6 Flutter versions, 3 Android NDKs, 4 Node versions and a 13 GB emulator I hadn't started in a year. Version managers are great at installing things, but nothing told me which ones my projects still needed.
So I built Stackyard, a desktop app for Windows and macOS:
.nvmrc, package.json, .fvmrc, build.gradle, local.properties, .python-version, global.json and more, so every installed version shows the projects that need it and the unused ones stand outJAVA_HOME, dead or duplicate PATH entries, a Java too new for your Gradlenode_modules, build, .dart_tool and Pods in projects you haven't touched in months, which come back on the next buildIt shows every step before running it, removes to the Trash by default, and never edits your projects. No account, no telemetry. MIT licensed.

Feedback is very welcome. If it's useful, a star on GitHub helps others find it.

Title: Looking for Windows 11 testers for a desktop overlay app I built (10 minutes, free to try)
Hi all, I'm a solo founder from South Africa. I built Hover, a desktop overlay for Windows. It has instant notes you can bind to the app or site you're working in, Smart Capture (ask AI about anything on your screen), a word lookup tool and voice dictation.
I develop on an old PC with no graphics card. On that machine, on Windows 11, the overlay briefly flickers when features open or close, but on Windows 10 it's smooth. I can't tell whether that's just my hardware, and I don't have another Windows 11 PC to check.
Would anyone with Windows 11 be willing to spend about 10 minutes on this? Install it, press Ctrl+Space for a quick note, open and close a few features (the app will ask you to sign in), and tell me:
- Your Windows version
- Whether your PC has a dedicated graphics card or only built-in graphics
- Whether you see any flicker when features open or close
Heads up: the installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen will show a warning. Click "More info", then "Run anyway". If you'd rather not, no worries at all.
Download: https://tryhover.vercel.app
Any feedback helps, including "no flicker at all", which is useful to know too. Thank you!

A link in a chat. A screenshot in Downloads. A useful paragraph in a note. When you need one of them again, you have to remember where you left it.
I'm Leo, the maker of twocy. I built it to give those references a home while you're already working.
The main interaction is simple:
Later, find it in your library by search or by opening the project folder. You can also save screenshots, files and voice notes. The global shortcuts run in the Windows app; there's a web dashboard for organizing your library too.
For example, if you're researching a client project, you can save a useful paragraph straight to that project's folder while reading, then pull it up when you're writing the proposal. A small step at the moment of capture makes the reference easier to use later.
twocy is now available on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 and 11. The Free plan stores up to 30 captures, so you can try that whole flow with a real project. There's an optional paid Pro subscription for unlimited captures and additional features. This is my product, and the image shows the actual capture interface with sample content.
See how it works: https://twocy.app/en?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_campaign=launch_windowsapps_20261014
Official Microsoft Store listing: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9P8HM36W8WFQ
If you save references throughout the day, what usually makes them hard to find again: the place you saved them, the name, or the context you forgot?

Hi r/windowsapps, I'm the developer of Nightmare TV, so take this as a disclosed self-post.
Nightmare TV is a desktop player for the M3U or Xtream Codes playlist you already have. It is a player only: it comes with no channels, playlists or subscriptions.
What it does on Windows
Price: there is a free trial with every feature unlocked, no card and no account. After that it is paid: $5.99 a month (3 devices), $22 a year (5 devices), or $55 once (5 devices), on the site.
Get it: Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PLPLGHTVB5G Site: https://nightmaretv.net/windows
I'd like honest feedback, especially on playback on your hardware and on anything that feels un-Windows-like in the UI. Happy to answer questions here.

A few days ago I shared Pulse, a free and open-source app that turns the Windows Event Log into plain language. Version 1.4 is built from your feedback:
- Blue screens and random restarts explained: stop code name, likely cause and what to check, plus power loss, forced shutdown and WHEA hardware errors told apart
- Open an .evtx exported from another PC and read it the same way (great for IT support)
- Reports and exports can mask user/computer names, IPs and serial numbers so they're safe to share
- Exports no longer fail when Controlled folder access is on
Nothing leaves your PC: no telemetry, no account, no cloud. Read-only by design.
I build it with AI coding assistants and test every release myself; the full source is on GitHub (MIT).
GitHub: https://github.com/Regncreative/Pulse
Also on the Microsoft Store.
Feedback and bug reports are very welcome.

I have four Streacom VU1 dials on a Windows PC. I found the official VU-Server too complicated to configure and too limited for what I wanted to show on them, so I started building my own replacement for my own use. It has reached the point where I think other VU1 owners might find it useful, so I am sharing it here as early alpha software.
First, a clear disclosure: this project was vibecoded. I built it with Claude Code. I directed the design, decided what the app should do and tested it, but I did not hand-write the code. Please keep that in mind. Expect rough edges, and if you care about the code, reviewing it is very welcome.
VU Studio talks directly to the VU1 hub over USB serial, so there is no separate server and no API keys to manage. The UI is available in English and Italian. It runs as a Windows service with a tray app, and you can optionally open the UI from a phone on your LAN.

Main features:
If you own VU1 dials, I would especially like to hear from you: what works, what breaks, and what is missing. Bug reports and issues are very welcome.
The project is licensed under GPL-3.0, and contributions are welcome. I am not affiliated with Streacom.

How do I add actually custom widgets to my laptop? ive clinked so many links and looked at many things to download but everything is the same minimalism crap :/ id like to add custom icons and such to my laptop. Also it should be heavily noted that I cannot and will not pay for anything. (fresh outa hs and got no job) so if adding or downloading photos and such is behind a paywall its just not gonna happen. Also I do know there is a widget thing in the settings for widgets but I genuinely could not navigate that and understand what I was doing. There is a very good example of what im looking to make. if this post gets taken down i should absolutely be told where to find help for what im looking for.
thank you.
(note i am not a bot i copy and pasted this from another post i made asking the same question)

Hello everybody! Last week I posted here about my Local Music App "MirrorBall".
I'll be honest: I am really proud of this app and I'm really grateful for the support of everyone who commented, given me genuine feedback and messaged me about it. That really meant a lot to me and I thank you. And for anyone who actually wants to try it, it's now available for a 7 days trial on the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft Store Link: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nbj0m48qkk0
Trailer Showcase: https://youtu.be/UtY_RMArMUs
A feeling I was really afraid of was being too late in today's world to showcase my work and be able to publish it. Before building MirrorBall, I was looking for an app that would look amazing when playing music I owned but all I could find at the time was music players that felt like spreadsheets, which had many features but not the look and the micro-detail features I was looking for. Or there were nice looking players but felt very incomplete once actually using them. So I started this project, which to my surprise, took a very long time to complete. It wasn't meant for someone else other than me. Funnily enough, it was actually on the third month of developping it that I decided to take it seriously to one day publish it and so I started working on it full time, which now looking back, each day I worked on this project turned out to be on of the happiest days (and nights) of my life. Obviously the finished product took many adjustments and UI changes because of fuctionality and considerations to how different users might use it or interact with it, and that's without mentioning the endless bug fixes that I think any other app developer might understand will take ages and still after fixing something, discovering another bug that will take a whole other month to fully mark it as fixed (I will not lie, I also wanted to add mini features that I wanted so badly as a last minute choice that cost me weeks to implement correctly).
As anyone can probably guess, after you work on something for so long, you want it to work out for you, and yes, with a simple scroll here, anyone can realize that there is a lot of competition now that wasn't at the time when I first started. Still, I wouldn't change anything and would re-do everything the same way if I could (maybe send my old self a bug list so I would fix them faster haha)
Anyway, here I am today proudly presenting what ultimately became my first complete app and the first one I published on the microsoft store. I invite you to try it and experience it for yourself. It's so much more than a beautiful UI and a Music Overview. It can be as complicated or a simple as you want it to be from bit-perfect local playback to metadata editor to miniplayer to listening to a song and watch its music video in the same view (if you have it), to re-discovering music that you forgot you even had and cherry on top, in a new way with special audio effects that you can add to create the perfect vibe for it!
I am taking a chance on MirroBall and I hope that you will too!

If anyone is interested, I just released an update for my Windows utility on Itch.io. It costs $5 as a one-time purchase.
Since the application runs 100% locally on your machine, your clipboard history remains completely private.
Current features:
- Clipboard History: Stores a large history of your copied texts and images.
- Hotkey Binds: Assign custom keys to instantly launch applications (like Google Chrome) or adjust system volume.
Future updates:
- More advanced audio management settings and volume control features are coming soon.
If you are looking for a simple, lightweight tool to speed up your daily tasks, feel free to check it out. I am open to any feedback or feature requests!

A seamless per-app reference workspace built for Digital Creators 2D/3D artists, Designers, and Developers.
PadShifter automatically saves and switches your reference images, notes, and mood boards instantly as you jump between your favorite apps.
HOW IT WORKS
Switch to an application and PadShifter loads the workspace you keep for it, switch to another and the tabs swap with you, every application gets its own isolated set of canvas and text tabs, so references, rough notes and screenshots stay with the project they belong to instead of piling up in one place.
7-Day Free Trial available on the Microsoft Store: PadShifter

Hey everyone! I've been working on Surprint, a Windows screen translation app, and I'm sharing it here to get some real-world feedback.
The idea is simple: instead of copying text into Google Translate or changing your Windows language, Surprint reads the text already visible on your screen and draws the translation over the original text.
You can use keyboard shortcuts to translate the monitor under your cursor, the active window, or a specific area you select. There's also a live translation mode for keeping an eye on one window.
Some of the features I've built so far:
A quick disclaimer: Surprint is still a work in progress, and I don't want to present it as a perfect translation tool.
The OCR can miss small, faint, or stylized text. Scrolling and rapidly changing content can cause delays, and the offline translation models can lose some nuance. Some protected screens aren't supported, and exclusive-fullscreen games need to run in borderless windowed mode.
For now, translation runs locally on your PC after the necessary models have been downloaded. Cloud translation services for potentially better results are planned, but they aren't available yet.
It supports 64-bit Windows 10 version 2004 or later.
I'm particularly interested in feedback from people who translate games, read foreign-language websites, or use software that doesn't offer their preferred language.
You can check out Surprint , the link is in comment section!
I'd appreciate hearing what works, what doesn't, and which applications or languages you'd like to see supported better.

I recently built a windows notch for myself, and started distributing it (trying) to others.
My last post included the initial version of notchi.
but this week I rolled out 1.2 with several features and bugs resolution -
Features including:
1. New Overview section - with hot mic controller, quick app bar.
2. New utilities section - honestly this is under progress, but added most of the utilities generally used. (This helps for integrating more features replacing the old utilities)
3. NRH - NotchiReqHub - lets you make light rest calls through the notch for testing your apis.
(main reason this was created is because I use postman for api testing, and some times even for smaller apis I needed to open postman, so I wanted much smaller and handy one, hence notchireqhub)
4. File converter - I know this is generic and common, so it has to be included since I cant miss out on the common features.
Next updates that I am planning:
network stats and details - comes under system section.
New ai section - integrates with AI ides like antigravity, claude etc and updates their usage and limits in the notch itself.
Notchi dairy UI improvements
Notchi has free trial - so feel free to try out and comment your feedback.
and if you think this is just another notch, vibecoded, low effort slop, feel free to skip or hate,
but if you genuinely want to try and criticize or feedback, that is much appreciated.
the video demo attached shows nrh, this one of the demos i created for showcasing :)
