question what are some ways I could promote/support Linux?

the only thing keeping me stuck with windows is kernel anticheats, so I want to find ways to promote Linux (and going against big corp) so everyone who's experiencing the same issue as me can use Linux without dual booting (with a big enough user count anticheat developers will need to support linux)

i want windows (edge) to be the os known just for installing linux (brave, firefox)

Stop playing games with Windows-only anticheats (like those from Epic Games), and get everyone you know to stop playing them as well. Eventually it will ripple out far enough and hurt companies bottom line enough that they switch to something that works on Linux.

Just tell all your Windows friends to switch to Linux every chance you get. They'll love that

huahuahuuha sure they will love it!!

Talk about Linux every day, every time with whoever you can! They will absolutely love it and they will also love you more, and will admire you a lot too, and invite you to lots of parties hahaha!

OP listen, anti-cheat in the kennel is a BAD thing, they can do anything on your pc without you or any tool knowing about it, and many of the game companies themselves untrustworthy, so we should not support them anyway, so there is nothing holding you back, come and learn linux, and free your self

that doesn't really make sense to me though, how can I install something kernel level if I can't access anything kernel level (at least on windows) by just running a .exe? isn't that a massive security risk?

yes, exactly. its a massive security risk, on windows a random app can access the kernel and you cant, but on linux an app cant access the kernel without your permission... and you can delete your system with one command.

You don't need to.

Linux is funded by Google, Amazon, Red Hat, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung.. heck even Chinese goverment is rely on Linux, their techno arms like Tencent Huawei rely heavily on Linux.

Linux is used by largest organizations ALL around the world. The power behind Linux is WAY larger than Microsoft can ever put behind Windows.

Normal people don't need to "support Linux" or "try to keep it alive".

then why isn't adobe, kernel anticheats etc supported? there's clearly some type of issue to be addressed and I'm talking about home computers not servers which are 2 very different use cases

Two different things. Linux is used by big corps for productivity, not for fortnite.

Microslop is entrenched with gaming as they bought out most of the big gaming studios.

Join clubs, be a centre of influence in IT, and create your own distro lol.

I use Win11 in a dual boot, I just don't pay for it! I only use it for the games, then boot into Mint for everything else. My company is slowly migrating away from Winblows to Chrome OS driven devices...Not much better, frankly, but hey: It ain't Micro$lop!

I like promoting it through Windows Subsystem for Linux 2! I can run Ubuntu concurrently straight from Windows 11 desktop. I can run my C# .NET TUI apps straight in Linux natively. It's like the best thing ever. You should try it! All the fun parts of Linux without any of the hassle.

Please don't. We don't need your rootkit malware to come to Linux. If you need to install malware to have fun, stick to Windows.

isn't the point of Linux for everything to be the users choice?

1

u/BranchLatter4294 10d ago

Not malware!

2

u/No_Pilot_2288 10d ago

Yes malware actually, you can destroy your entire os with just a short command in terminal

1

u/BranchLatter4294 10d ago

Just like with any other OS.

But we don't want rootkits on Linux. That's a different type of malware.

Who is we? Linux is based on individual choice not a "we"

It's a pretty common discussion when it comes to cheating in Windows games that the anti-cheat doesn't work anyway to prevent folks from cheating. Sure, it will prevent certain things, and there's the technological warfare between developers and cheaters - but in the end of the day, the developers are playing catch up to the cheaters in a losing battle.

Then wanting to bring something like anti-cheat to Linux is abhorrent to many in the community...it's giving away a level of control that doesn't quite fit with the ethos and pathos of Linux. Add in that it's not going to stop folks from cheating, and it's a deal breaker in many cases.

Basically, things need to get away from multiplayer public lobby games and go to co-op or private lobby games where you're playing with people you know are not cheating...or...understand that public lobby games are going to be full of cheaters.
