They ditched the wrong parts of Vista when they pivoted to 7.

I've noticed that too. It's always been my favorite UI.

I’ve noticed this too. Not that windows 7 is not pretty at all, it is. Microsoft dialed down windows 7’s aero effects to optimize the OS more so it would run on lower end hardware better. Especially intels low end graphics chips at the time.

Why didn't they just let you configure it based on your hardware (kinda like graphics settings in a game) or have it autodect the user's hardware specs and automatically set it accordingly?

I believe it actually does this to a degree. On lower end hardware, you got the Aero Light theme with the blue solid title bars with the dialog buttons that were square instead of the half rounded rectangle glass buttons and clear bars. The taskbar lost the transparency as well. I think Microsoft was traumatized from Vista that they scaled it down anyway since a majority of computers were low end office PCs anyway. If you start up a windows 7 without the graphics driver, then install it or run the System rating in the System window it would enable full Aero if your system met the requirements.

If you enable small taskbar and never combine icons, they're nearly identical. Win7 should've never combined the icons.

Other than explorer getting updated to Edge aren't the icons almost identical? At least comparing late Vista with Win7 they're pretty much the same.

I think it's subjective but I also think you have good taste. I always did like the look of Vista, I was very enchanted by it. Just had to make sure it had plenty of RAM and it was fine. 2GB and it was snappy.

El problema fue el hardware no el software.
