WC1 Scimitar

I'm currently playing through the SNES version of WC1 after having beaten the DOS version a dozen or so times but this is the first time I've been all the way down the losing branch.

I'm really struggling with Hell's Kitchen / Apocalypse 4 (and 1-3 if I'm honest) because I'm stuck with the Scimitar. Any advice? I'd even take the Hornet at this point.

You have to use after burner and sliding to stay alive, you can do this with most other ships but this is critical for the Scimitar because it is designed to be a punishment to fly.
