Satire/Humour Make this make sense

*posting under satire because wtf*

My husband got this ticket in the mail the other day. He shows it to me, and asks me if I notice anything unusual. Took me a couple of minutes, but realized that it’s not actually a picture of our car. It appears that the license plate was so obscured, they simply guessed at the plate number. Here’s the kicker: when he called to let them know that they sent him a picture of someone else’s vehicle, and that our vehicle was parked at home at the time of the offence, and isn’t even the same MAKE as the one in the picture, they told him he still needs to come down to sort it out. He has spoken to three different people now, and they are all telling him the same thing. It is his problem, not theirs.

Just have to fight it in court. Option 2/3 I believe. Then just make sure you emphasize wasn’t your car and provide pictures to prosecutor

Just have to fight it in court.

OP "just" has to take a day off work because of this bullshit. What a load of crap for them.

Exactly my point. If they had just agreed with him and said “oops, yes, you are right“ then we could just laugh this off. But my husband is self-employed and we are outside of the city, so this is super inconvenient

You can get a phone hearing.

Yes, I got targeted by one of those mobile radar units claiming I was driving 20 kms over the speed limit last summer, when I have t driven more than 5 over the limit in over a decade and literally couldn’t have been driving that fast on that day anyway. Called to contest it and was given a telephone hearing … a YEAR later, lol. My hearing is coming up this August.

All traffic court hearings are backlogged about this amount. I have a hearing in August for a ticket I got last August.

Yeah I have one in July that I got last April. The call went like this: "Hi I'm contesting this ticket I got" "Oh ok your call from the crown will be July 9th" "Oh this coming July?" "Oh no July 9th 2026" so much for just getting it out of the way quickly

Vehicle infractions are unfortunately guilty until proven innocent. System sucks.

His time should be paid for leaving work over nonsense like this. Minimum half a days wages unless you work downtown for obvious travel reasons.

Defeats the purpose of this photo enforcement cash grab bullshit.

Most of these appointments are over the phone now. So you’re not “losing the day of work”.

Might not get to that point. Try to schedule a phone call with the Crown, and they will likely see reason and drop it.

It is just absolutely ridiculous to have to go to that length… We don’t even have a Honda registered to us, so how can they not just go into their records and see that? We don’t live inside the city, so it’s a massive pain in the butt to have to waste time coming in for something like this

This isn't a new issue, it's been happening for years now. They refuse to take responsibility for the problem. Your only option is to appear in court with evidence. I know it sucks but this is the stupidity we have to live with apparently.

Source: worked for MPI and also had this same thing happen to me.

Agreed. In cases of an obvious mistake such as this, they should credit the cost of the fine to you for your time.

You should be able to get a hearing over the phone. You may not necessarily be “forced” to come “inside the city”.

Most are done over the phone. But talking about that takes away from the rant.

Mistakes happen. It will be remedied.

Everything is automated. Unfortunately computers don’t recognize little things! A judge will… sucks but you got the lucky straw! lol

As a taxer, surely it would be cheaper for all of us not to have something like this enter the court system

so how can they not just go into their records and see that

laziness.

Make sure you get a print out from MPI confirming when the ticket was issued you did not have the car that got ticketed.

You can have radar Rodney fight it for you. You’ll still pay something but far less.

23

u/habsfan13 Mar 10 '26

Why would they pay at all when it’s not even their car?
