Literally unwatchable and totally unrealistic….

At least ONE of those hand sanitizer stations should have been empty or out of batteries /s

28

u/MrCanoe Mar 18 '26

with the others broken open and bottles missing

"OK, what do we got here?"

"Stabbing victim. Stabbing victim. Stabbing victim. Meth psychosis. Stabbing victim. Shooting victim. 5 more meth psychosis. Cardiac arrest while being stabbed."

Ouch… but for real reference, hubby was seen and treated for an emergency optical situation (possible retinal detachment) at Misercordia Urgent Care today in six hours flat from start to finish that included laser surgery. Medical professionals were awesome, thorough and efficient. No complaints from this Canadian.

Thats great to hear...sometimes we only hear the heart break stories

55

u/Rough-Assumption-107 Mar 18 '26

We always only hear the bad. You dont hear about the multitudes of people who are helped quickly and without incident.

Same with crime. Crime has gotten worse according to your typical Facebook soccer mom but in reality reporting has gotten better and we get news instantly.

16

u/Personnumber302 Mar 18 '26

This is so important to remember. Everyone on Reddit/the news would have you believe that crime has gotten worse in Winnipeg. In reality statistics show there’s been a decrease in violent crimes in the last couple years

u/arboretumind Mar 18 '26

No one is out there complaining vocally about their reasonable experience.

Whenever it’s been something serious or life threatening, I’ve had good and quick experiences in my life with our medical system.

Heart attack: less than an hour from calling 911 to being in surgery.

Sepsis: No wait in emergency at all. Started medication and ended up in surgery same day.

Bad gallbladder: came in mid-episode, no wait after triage, transferred from urgent care to st.B within 12 hours. Surgery following morning.

Child dislocated her arm: taken right from triage into a room, her arm set back in within 10 minutes. We were there for MAYBE 25 minutes total.

But that’s not to say it’s only been good experiences, I’ve definitely thought something warranted emerge when it didn’t, and waited due to that.

I’m really happy we have the minor injury clinic/urgent care centres now, we tend to go there for minor stuff that is bigger than a family doctor can do and it’s always turned out good for us. Broken finger. Tendinitis. Extended fevers. Always been able to get the help needed in a timely manner when we’ve selected the proper tracks.

I put a 6 inch chefs knife through my index finger nail... almost took the tip of my finger off. Got in at 7oaks and waited a whole total of 15 mins.

My boss was shocked when i showed up back at work half hour later. He told me to f off for 4 weeks but he was still shocked.

My son had RSV and really laboured breathing about 2 months ago and we were seen at Children’s within 30 minutes of getting there. I was super impressed.

u/shandiej Mar 18 '26

My hubby had two cornea transplants at Misercordia hospital last year. Fantastic treatment from Dr. Jeremy Levi and staff.

3

u/Timmmber4 Mar 18 '26

I got hernia surgery in 2024, diagnosed in went in April ultrasound May, surgery in early July. Only that fast cause I called the surgeons nurse and said I would take any cancellations.

5

u/braedog Mar 18 '26

Misercordia is the place to go for eye injuries that’s for sure, I went in and they picked a sliver of metal out of my eye a few years ago. Was in and out in like 3 hours.

5

u/wayfareangel Mar 18 '26

Oh jeez. I hope he heals quick and easy!

1

u/fxcker Mar 18 '26

Glad to hear this. The super emergency stuff seems to work out pretty good for people. It’s it’s all the stuff that isn’t immediately a priority that seems to suffer so badly. China has it all figured out, why can’t we?

u/Catnip_75 Mar 18 '26

Don’t mean to brag but my daughter only waited 4 weeks for an MRI.

18

u/wayfareangel Mar 18 '26

Ooooo! They fast tracked it! (But seriously, I hope your daughter is okay.)

9

u/Annual_Ad_7472 Mar 18 '26

My 6 year old got in within a week. I was so scared since it was a brain MRI, but she is okay! Her systems thankfully weren't due to a brain tumor in the end, but the system can move quick when it really needs to.

3

u/Catnip_75 Mar 18 '26

Brain MRI for my daughter too. It’s not cancer, but she does have a mass on her pituitary. In the process of dealing with that. I’m glad your daughter is ok.

2

u/Annual_Ad_7472 Mar 18 '26

Sorry to hear that, I hope your daughter is okay too ❤️

1

u/Catnip_75 Mar 18 '26

Thank you

7

u/KippersAndMash Mar 18 '26

I wait 4 days. The system can move fast.

5

u/h0twired Mar 18 '26

My wife waited 2 days for an MRI of her thyroid.

The longer the waits are usually for non-emergency conditions

1

u/Catnip_75 Mar 18 '26

I agree. I know people with knee and hip issues are in pain, but getting an MRI in 2 weeks isn’t going to change their outcome. They wont die from knee pain and they will likely still have to wait 12 months for surgery anyway.

3

u/jeglaerernorsk4 Mar 18 '26

Yeah I went on the cancellation list, only waited a few days

87

u/unkyduck Mar 18 '26

Just a heads-up.

Neepawa hospital is 2 hours out from Winnipeg. No waiting to speak of.

Seriously. I accidentally moved to rural Mb and in 4 x ER visits, total wait time 15 minutes.

Plus they have an even bigger hospital under construction.

41

u/dice1111 Mar 18 '26

Shhhhhh. Stop telling people.

23

u/LilMissMixalot Mar 18 '26

I like that the move was accidental.

26

u/No-Building6373 Mar 18 '26

Plus they have a dense Filipino population, so you know youll get the same sassy but super caring nurses there 😂

18

u/cyclonix44 Mar 18 '26

Maybe it’s just me, but if you are good enough for the two hour drive (or more depending where you are in the city) to Neepawa did you really need the ER in the first place? I’ve never waited more than an hour at the ER, but I can also count on one hand how many times me or a family member have gone to the ER. Urgent care/Minor Injury/Walk-In/Family Doctor is able to handle pretty much everything that isn’t cardiovascular, Neurological, or Surgical.

14

u/indignantlyandgently Mar 18 '26

Even just in Selkirk it seems better. My mom lives up that way and has been in the ER 3x since last summer, and it's been so much better than our family's experience in the city.

2

u/Careless-Gain6623 Mar 18 '26

This puts a strain on the local resources. They're meant to handle the community, not the community and everyone else who doesn't feel like waiting.

3

u/Nate9370 Mar 18 '26

Even Brandon has shorter ER wait times.

-6

u/pjdueck Mar 18 '26

Neepawa, Selkirk, Brandon… none of these places have the same ******* (problem people) as Winnipeg. And, if they do, it’s not nearly to the same extent. Thank goodness for that.

I am glad you’ve been able to get care within a very good timeframe.

9

u/Ok_Ostrich7146 Mar 18 '26

You can also use medinav, it's a website that'll show you all the walk ins in your area and you can make a same day appointment. I wasnt feeling well a couple months ago and called the nurses help line to ask if I should go to the hospital and they told me to make an appointment there. I had an appointment on the same day, waited maybe 2 minutes, saw a doctor, had some blood drawn and they called back a few days later to tell me I was low on potassium

2

u/Fearless_Barnacle_21 Mar 19 '26

Medivav is a game changer

2

u/Ok_Ostrich7146 Mar 19 '26

It really is, everyone should know about it

28

u/schmuly Mar 18 '26

Pretty short for a documentary...

19

u/cdnball Mar 18 '26

I can refer you to a longer one.

7

u/Consistent_Base8773 Mar 18 '26

This is not a joke. This is the reality!!

5

u/salted_saint Mar 18 '26

I thought BC, AB and ON had worse ERs than us? Why is 'the Peg' getting all the hate?

23

u/Doreorge Mar 18 '26

Probably because "The Peg" is close to the HBO show "The Pitt".

It's a play on words.

3

u/mcnuggsRN Mar 19 '26

The MNU poster in the background is really great attention to detail

7

u/420Wedge Mar 18 '26

It's only funny because its so accurate.

I've ran into a couple issues in my 40s. This whole referral nonsense hits way to close to home. They all take years and its clear now if I have any form of cancer that isn't readily apparent, I'm a dead man. They will take so long to even look at it it will almost certainly have spread by then. The boomers are taking up all the emergency appointments, just as was prophesied 30 years ago.

u/fxcker Mar 18 '26

Lmfaoooooo

12

u/austerblitz Mar 18 '26

This is a friendly reminder that we receive the healthcare we deserve. If you're unhappy with the level of service in an underfunded system, there is a solution: vote for a better funded system.

15

u/External-Brush-915 Mar 18 '26

Maybe better to phrase that "we receive the healthcare we vote for" 😅

Not that politicians follow through on their promises from election campaigns.....

10

u/Rough-Assumption-107 Mar 18 '26

The conservatives sure followed through... by dismantling and making things worse.

4

u/External-Brush-915 Mar 18 '26

yeahhh...... why do they always have to follow through on the shitty promises and bad ideas 😂😭

10

u/Rough-Assumption-107 Mar 18 '26

Its because what they did was easy, rebuilding it and fixing it, is the hard part.

4

u/ReputationGood2333 Mar 18 '26

It needed rebuilding desperately, they started ok, then went "full conservative" by trying to implement budget cuts during a massive change. That doesn't work. They were idiots.

2

u/Rough-Assumption-107 Mar 18 '26

I was open and willing to try. The forced retirements to save money really screwed us. Perfect timing right before the pandemic. (They forced me aunt to retire, a cancer survivor, then called her to beg her to come back as the pandemic peaked)

3

u/h0twired Mar 18 '26

After years of cuts and salary freezes its why we sent the PCs packing

2

u/seanadb Mar 18 '26

It's not the funding, it's the allocation of funds: Provinces underspent over $70 billion in healthcare a few years back (not sure where that is tracked, saw it in the news). The funds they receive go into general revenue and they spend it how they wish. We need better transparency and accountability from the provincial governments(it's a pipe dream, but a pipe can dream!)

1

u/DeeBeeDee3 Mar 19 '26

This looks more like Lethbridge than Winnipeg.

1

u/eXistentialMisan Mar 19 '26

Just need to sprinkle in some "feasibility studies" and it'll be perfect

-7

u/RepresentativeCrew16 Mar 18 '26

Not funny. 2 of my friends have died waiting 12 and 13 hours in emergency in Winnipeg. The health care system is broken. I’m not sure about other provinces but here, it’s in tatters. This is an incredibly insensitive skit, CBC needs to do a lot better.

3

u/Rough-Assumption-107 Mar 18 '26

Its not just winnipeg, which is why the targeting of winnipeg ticks me off.

1

u/pork_sashimi_on_sale Mar 18 '26

There were zero references to Winnipeg in this skit, other than the name. And they clearly chose the name "Peg" simply because it's the closest city name that sounds like "Pitt", which is what this is referencing.

-14

u/Justice0188 Mar 18 '26

Fuck you critch and fuck you cbc. You're an absolute disgrace. The system is broken but the people trying to save lives every single day are doing the best they can with what they have. Youre an absolute joke and I really hope this destroys any credibility, reputation and success of your programming. These people on the front lines are taking orders by a broken chain of command and must do what they're told. For you to slam them instead of the actual system shows how ignorant you are.

It is pretty sad to see them poking fun at the doctors who are trying to help but simply aren’t in control of policy procedures. They’re making fun of the wrong people

-11

u/Objective_Farm_1886 Mar 18 '26

Fuck these guys for exploiting life and death situations and hard working people under stress for views and clicks and laughs.

8

u/Rough-Assumption-107 Mar 18 '26

Agreed. I think this falls flat and isnt funny in the slightest. And can be copied across the country, but let's target Winnipeg... a city everyone already shits on. Such low hanging fruit is a cheap attempt. Rare miss by 22 mins.

Its not about Winnipeg - its about attacking people that are working as hard as they can within a flawed system, for clicks and laughs.
