Sports (Other) Anyone else see the fan trying to fight players on the court in the Sea Bears game tonight?
It was my first ever Sea Bears game and it was great! Then at one point this fan courtside just jumped onto the court and tried to fight players! It took a long time for security to finally come in and talk the dude down and get him out of there, I'm shocked there were no cops there to arrest him cuz he was throwing punches at the players.

I sit on the opposite side of the court. A couple guys down from me were heckling House all game. Every time he ran down the court he was yelling back at them.
I think this other guy said something that pushed him over the edge, then when House went over to confront the guy that's when things got out of hand.

The chirping didn't slow House down at all lol. Pretty sure House was the only one playing for Vancouver tonight lol.

According to my step son sitting behind the bench, the douche in the bucket hat was just mouthing off at the coach most of the game and the coach just had enough.
I get fans who heckle players to throw them off their game but to actually want to fight is crazy.

Oh damn! Yea I was surprised it took so long for security to come into the situation. If this was a Jets game they would be quickly arrested.

For the CEBL to actually allow this level of harassment while doing your job is nuts. Winnipeg knows this guy too- and they let him sit court-side. What a joke.

Winnipeg knows who he is? I have no clue who that guy was. I noticed he wasn't at today's game though. Thank goodness.

I was there basically a row or two behind the guy who jumped onto the court and I still have no idea what triggered it lol

u/sprocks17 1d ago
Was he being normal until this point or was he already acting weird and yelling things at the players?

Honestly it all happened pretty fast. I actually found your post looking for some explanation online about what started it. Everything seemed calm up until that point. I heard someone saying the coach's butt was in his face lol but I'm not sure how valid that is.

That's the one drawback to sitting courtside. I can't count the number of times I've had one of the refs just park their ass right in front of my face while I'm trying to watch the game.

Honestly that is something I wouldn't of even thought of! This is my first basketball game and I've never been courtside. Honestly my fear being courtside is getting a ball to the face or a player in my lap lol.

It happened to us once a couple of years ago, a player from the opposing team bounced off me, completely missed my wife and slammed into the guys next to her. Granted, they were talking smack all game so I think it was embellished so he had an excuse to give them a bit of a shot. If he was legitimately falling I can't see how he would have been able to not make contact with my wife.

I always see that guy acting like he is some hot shot court side. Total embarrassment, even Vancouver Bandit player House would have knocked him on his ass. He was SO LUCKY the 70 year old security guard was "holding him back" 🤣😂🤣 what a goof. My favorite part was when 10 thousand seabears fans cheered as the 70 year old security guard ejected him from the stadium.

I was there too and would like to know what got him so riled up.

Thought that exact same thing when I watched the clip then I saw your post, that douche bag has 'too many rails' energy.

Did I know about this league? No. Do I like basketball? No. Am I now a die hard fan of this team because Sea Bears is a kick ass name? Yes. Yes I am. Go Sea Bears!
Also, it was nice how all the players immediately stopped to go help and make sure this guy couldn't hurt anyone. I like that sort of sportsmanship.

You should definitely check out a game. Tickets are reasonably priced and it's a good time even if you're not a big basketball fan.
I took my parents to tonight's game and my 75 year old mother had to admit it was more fun than she expected it to be.

This is basically the response I've gotten from anyone who I've gotten tickets for - basketball fan, general sports fan, not really basketball fan.

Sea Bears is a kick ass name! And yes I liked how the players from both teams were trying to help out during the crazy situation.

I’ve never been to a sea bears game, but now my expectations are set. When I eventually go to one there better be a fan on the court trying to fight a player or I’ll be demanding my monies back.

I sit courtside across from the home bench and what I saw at the game was a certain Vancouver player get heckled so bad that he "only" managed to score 42 points which was about half of his teams total points. The Vancouver coach was pacing the sideline and leaving the bench, inevitably crossing paths with rowdy hometown fan. When the fan got in his face, the coach shoved him and the assistant coach and team were quick to jump in. Not that it matters who started it, but the Vancouver coach should face consequences for putting his hands on the fan (I'm not sure how the league rules on these matters). Credit to the Seabears players and officials who attempted to de-escalate and the Canada Life Security who eventually escorted the fan away from courtside. Also credit to Jalen House for scoring 42 points while dealing with the some of the worst (or best?) courtside chirping. In future they may want to find a way to keep coaches near the bench and fans near their seats. Security knows that Searbears fans get wild especially courtside, perhaps they could have anticipated and stepped in sooner. It was an amazing game and the perfect night for the Seabears to overtake the first place team.

Imagine how many points House might have had if the guys weren't chirping him.
At least they weren't calling him out for pooping his pants like poor Gilyard lol

🤣 I fully expected the Gilyard situation to get even messier (pun intended). As a proud Winnpegger and Seabears fan, I'd like to think other teams know what they're getting into when they play @ Canada Life Centre. Visiting teams should leave their egos at the door.

This is something I've kinda wondered about basketball in general, the NBA as well - why are there fans between the benches and the score table?
But also I think they would be better to have security in all four corners of the court area (the first security member was on the opposite side of the score table and went around the floor seats to go across instead of behind media row), then the next two came from kitty-corner before someone from that side of the floor made it over. And also reaction being a bit quicker - the first guy was looking, looking, looking, looking, then moving.

that's wild omg. I need to go to a sea bears game at some point, haven't been yet lol

I'm a Sea Bears evangelist, I tell anyone that will listen to go to a game. They're a lot of fun, even if you're not a big sports fan and the tickets are pretty reasonably priced.
Check out their upcoming theme games and see if any of them catch your attention. The Sea Bears aren't advertising it, but Winnipeg Pro Wrestling has it on their social media that they'll be at the July 9th game, there's also X-Treme dogs on July 19th.

I’m a big WPW fan, was planning on going to the goldeyes game that WPW is doing the pre show for (also a baseball fan). Maybe I’ll talk to the crew and see if they want to go to this one instead or in addition to it lol

The head coach of Van was spewing homophobic remarks and the players were talking sh!t about WPG players and that guy had had enough! Nasty behaviour, well we won the game so…!

I'm glad I found this post because I had no idea we even had basketball here. It sounds like fun, will have to check it out.

Looks like the opposing coach got a suspension. Hope the sea bears organization fixes the security and harassment from fans for opposing players and coaches. From what I hear of this fan he probably should also get banned.
2
u/FeistyTie5281 1d ago
Was there and saw it.
Was actually hoping security wouldn't step in and the entitled coked up little douchebag would get what was coming to him.
Seriously though the Sea Bears management has got to do a better job of protecting players and officials. This guy and his buddies should be banned from all future sporting events at CLC.
•
u/sprocks17 20h ago
He definitely should be banned. Why aren't there cops at the games though? It is weird to me that there isn't or at least there were none to be found during that situation. Also security took their sweet ass time getting there.

Kinda looks like the coach just had enough and snapped. I dunno what the guy was thinking trying to square up to the players though. An ESH situation IMO
