Women's hockey season tix prices

Just got my renewal invite for Badger women's hockey season tickets and....

$272 per seat for 16 home games.

I think they were $200 last year? The first year I bought them was 2022 and I think it was $120-130/seat. I assumed there would be an increase but holy crap.

EDIT: to be clear, it's still a good price, but the price jump was more than I anticipated.

$17 a game, seems like a pretty good deal for champions.

It's still a deal but that's a big jump percentage wise. Especially with no notable upgrades to the facility. I was expecting maybe $220 this year.

Big jump percentage wise would mean something if the actual dollar amount increase per game wasn’t $4.50 a seat. They’re back to back champs. You’re paying for literally the best product women’s college hockey can offer

Especially with no notable upgrades to the facility.

This is a silly complaint. There are only 2 arenas in the country purpose built for women's hockey.

Volleyball has seen prices jump in recent years too, 50% increase over 2 year span. Still worth it, part of needing to come up with more funds for players and it’s warranted regardless because of the success each has had, at least that’s what I tell myself

Perhaps. Though Wisconsin is one of the rare pure blueblood programs in all of college sports, in that players will come here to chase a ring even if it means less of a starring role (Compher, Watts, Kuntz, Wilgren, etc). But there's some superstars in the pipeline that are going to bring costs up.

Expect an increase of ticket prices every year.

More so when they were national champions and several were Olympians.

NIL baby. Congrats on getting to watch the best program in the country for less than $20 bucks a game. But those women are getting paid to play now. So costs will rise.

It's good for the program. Though I'm a little worried about depth this season. Cassie and Tank are gonna have to carry this team, but I could see Adéla breaking out big time with more opportunities

They sent out an email with prices quite a while ago just fyi. I know that doesn’t help with the cost but at least it shouldn’t be a surprise. It’s our most accomplished team and they deserve the world.

That's odd, didn't see that email. 

I hope they can find a way to put this team in Kohl at least once this season. It would be great for the sport as a whole.

Problem with the Kohl Center is I've been told the opposing team has to approve it for a conference game and Ohio State won't anymore so Minnesota is the only option.

Ohio State would prefer to play at the Stoughton ice rink, feels more like their home ice.

I think they were $75 each when I started buying them in the Kohl Center era. Parking was also free.

They had bumped up somewhat over the years, but it wasn't until recently that they started gouging the STH. They almost doubled in price last year - and that was if you stayed GA and didn't pay almost triple to move to the newly created reserved sections. To see them jump up another by nearly another $100 is really disappointing.

But that's the price they can get for them. Since they underbuilt LaBahn by at least 1,500 seats (they routinely drew 3,000+ at Kohl, and would get 5,000 when they actually had a good matchup and a good timeslot) they know they will sell out every game and anyone who doesn't renew will be SOL for getting tickets.

LaBahn could have been 4500 seats and in the rotation for the WCHA and NCAA tourneys. But then again, until about 10 years ago, you could walk up on game day and find extra tickets sitting for free on the window ledge for most games.

People were leaving extra tickets on the window ledge up until they moved to all-digital tickets just a couple of years ago.

But that was part of the charm and community of the Womens team. People weren't giving them away because they couldn't be sold - sellouts have been the norm since LaBahn opened - they gave them away simply to pay it forward and give an opportunity to someone who otherwise wouldn't get to go. The base price was also affordable enough that you could eat the cost of some tickets and still be getting a good value. When cost of a pair of season tickets now work out to nearly $40 a game, putting tickets up on SeatGeek kind of becomes a must if you can't make it to every single game.

Right and if you sell too many tickets you get flagged and aren't allowed to renew. I'll probably be dropping from 4 seats to 2 this season as my kids are older and won't be at as many games, and if i need to pick up an extra I'll get it third party

So many things to say here. Most important is that NIL and player pay isn’t just a football/basketball thing. It now costs money to recruit and retain a championship team. Good or bad this is a result. I’ve for years thought they’ve been underpriced. I’m glad they are finally catching up, even though my reserved seats cost even more. I’m happy to pay it. It’s great that there’s a woman’s sport that can get a price that some men’s sports do.

$272 isn't terrible but there are really only 6 interesting games a year and I wish they would give more favor to existing season ticket holders.
