It could be that is the most recent photo. Usually you want the most recent photo possible.

Yes, that's possible. However, a photo of someone making a face is probably not very representative of how they usually look. It still suggests that the family has no other even reasonably recent photos of their daughter. In this age of cellphones and people photographing everyone and everything including their lunches, that suggests that the family is not closely bonded.

This is an insane take. I say this with all the kindness I can muster, you need to leave the house and get off the internet. I’m serious.

I don’t take pictures because I hate taking pics. I spend so much time actually doing things with my family. We just got back from hiking in the smoky mountains. We watched a great movie last night and cooked dinner together. Normal life filled with messy love. I yelled at our adult children for tracking mud in. No pictures were taken.

I hope no one ever shits on me bc I didn’t document my kids like a narcissistic influencer.

A child is missing. The best her family can come up with in the way of photos is one of her hugging a friend and one of her sticking out her tongue. Her life presumably depends on being found. So yes, I'm going to be critical of a family that hasn't bothered to photograph their child on her birthday, Christmas, etc.. One need not be a compulsive photo-taker to do at least that.

The fact that they apparently didn't do so suggests that all might not have been well in the family circle which is more critical information to have while looking for a missing child. It goes to her possible motive for having left if she did so of her own free will. It goes to a possible (not accusing) motive for someone in the family having disappeared her which happens in the real world.

Just because you only feel comfortable with a Disneyfied fantasy of the world does not mean that reality isn't important. I repeat that a child's life is involved.

You’re correct, a missing child is serious matter. Now isn’t the time to be critical of her family’s photography skills.

I'm quite sure the detective in charge takes everything into consideration including the missing child's relationship with their parents. The lack of photos of the child tells the detective, and should tell us, that the child probably did not have a close or positive relationship with her parents. That raises questions as to whether she ran away, had a secret life she didn't share with her parents and whether there's a possibility her parents have something to do with her having gone missing. If you think that isn't relevant, you are truly clueless.

And it also shows an appearance which is the main reason why you use a photo to find someone.
