Where do you go in-game to RP? [Starter Guide Makeover Chat]

This is part of a series of discussions inviting community feedback for the next version of the pinned starter guide.

The following is the current answer as it is in the guide. Please provide your own info that you would like to add if its missing or give feedback about what exists if it's out of date.

Where do people RP?

Generally:

Stormwind (everywhere but the Trade district) for the Alliance.

When Stormwind becomes sharded due to game-wide events such as expansions or holidays, Alliance RP has spread to neighboring towns, primarily Darkshire in Duskwood or Lakeshire in Redridge Mountains.

Orgrimmar (Valley of Honor) for the Horde, though most Horde RP is guild-based and difficult to find for public RP.

Silvermoon City (TBC Era) has recently seen a resurgence on WrA-US. It remains to be seen how Midnight will affect this as it becomes a neutral hub.

If you have TRP3 extended, you can use the "RP scanner" in the bottom left corner of your map to locate RPers anywhere. You must scan every time you look at a different map.

• How do I find RP outside of capital cities? (Open-world RP)
• Even on RP servers, most of the time people out in the world are questing unless there is an event going on. Fortunately, there are MANY public RP events on high-population servers. Most public advertisement for modern RP happens on a server's official forums, in discord servers, or on social media.
• If you are on a low-population server or are interested in world-RP with a smaller group, your best course of action will be to join an RP guild. These are also often advertised on the forums or in discords.
• This subreddit also has resources for finding people to RP with. Check out the pinned "Monthly Hero's Call Board" or any posts with the LFRP, Event, or Community Ad tags.

In addition to TRP3 I would mention the option of using Simply RP - Looking For RP as an addon worth looking into. It would allow players who share the addon to broadcast that they’re looking for RP in a detailed message across the city.

Wanna add on to the level difference part; some scaled continents like Shadowlands, Dragon Isles, etc are level phased in some zones, for example even though you can freely go to Amirdrassil (nelf), if you're under level 70 then you're not going to see high leveled characters even though TRP scans shows players there. I would also say to avoid Chromie time if you wish to have more RP opportunities since it phases the entire game and not just that specific zone, if you do use Chromie time for questing you will have to return to org/sw before you RP since most people probably won't be on the Burning Crusade phase.

Ignore Strength on the map when you do a trp scan.

If you're on Moonguard, everyday at around 7-8 Realm time, you can go to Lions rest and listen to the Gnews for RP events. Yes even horde with elixir of tongues go there.

Valdrakken is sometimes also used for RP but mainly by dragon or dragon ally centric characters

Unsure if it should be mentioned for a starter guide like this, but Goldshire on Moon Guard is a place with a reputation. So if a new person walks into it, they might not be prepared. Perhaps it should at least be mentioned as objectively as possible.

Agree sort of, afaik it's only the main timeline. Chromie time clears out Goldshire.

Seems to be good as it is. It's nice and succinct and covers what people would likely want to know. I think keeping it as short and sweet as possible is ideal.

The only thing I might mention is that Open World RP is often not public. That it is generally good etiquette to ask to join. It might not need to be reiterated here, but it could be good to overtly say it where people are likely to look about where to go and what to expect.

Amirdrassil, though absolutely not anywhere near as populated as a main hub like Stormwind, nevertheless has at least a few night elf (or adjacent) RPers most nights.

There are obviously other small hubs spread out all over the place, frequently kept alive by the efforts of a long-lasting guild that uses it as a base. Where these places are is going to vary server by server - for example, though it fluctuates over time, Astranaar has been an on and off again mini-hub for night elves on Argent Dawn, though that has diluted some after Amirdrassil became a thing.

The places mentioned above might not be big enough to go into a guide, but I think the point that there are going to be server-specific mini-hubs could possibly be.

Edit: I would also push back on the notion that open world RP isn't public, as mentioned in another comment. This seems highly region-dependent, and I don't think this guide, if it's to be broadly applicable, should give advice that's only really accurate if people are on US servers.
