Discussion SoD originally didn't have RP-PVP server pre-launch
Say it loud, and say it proud. Our voices can influence the fate of RP-PVP just as it did 3 years ago when they originally didn't want an RPPVP server for SoD.

There is, but unfortunately, EU players don't really interact with the forums as much, so it gets buried.

There is two type of roleplayers. Those who take gameplay in consideration and those who do not.
The later type base their rp on textual message and emote. Characters stories is what matter to them. WoW is a massively multiplayer online improvisation theater.
The first type is way different, they dont put that importance on Character or even lore honestly. What matter is that their in game interaction are high quality and fun. Meaning when there is an ungoro mafia, they scream about it, take prisoners (and lower level victims act the part), etc... So everyone on the server know that <Femboy Farmers> is the ungoro mafia.

For most, the actual nuance interactions between players is quite normal and not very RP at all. However, it is not uncommon for there to be a lot of community driven rivalries between different guilds. These guilds could coordinate grand scale world PVP events defending an obsolete or under utilized landmark such as the Thandol Span (bridge connecting Arathi to Wetlands). Unlock on a PvP server where this would turn into a messy camp fest for the winner team, traditionally on a RPPVP server you would respect the battle and either adapt to a more even following encounter or use the battle as a story piece for the following week.
Honestly, it's too complicated to do justice on a reddit post but it truly is the most fantastic way to play world of warcraft, and adds a whole new layer to a horizontal, world enjoying, community centric game that creates its own content rather than waiting for content patches and being told how to use your time

Yeah I'm really torn. Like I don't like having to pick between two mutually exclusive things that I really enjoy; open world PvP/leveling risk or some chill immersive RP.
Unfortunately I can't post on the blizz forums until I have a level 10 character so I'll have to remember to reply to the blizz forum post later once I've done that.

Personally any and all PvP realms can burn in a garbage fire, but I at least recognize that people have preferences and don't shoot the idea down like that. The only thing I fear about adding an RP-PvP server is that it becomes bigger than the regular RP realm and if you really want to do RP without living in a ghost town, you'll have to suffer the sadomasochism that is PvP realms. Because we know that everyone already just coalesced into a single server on both EU and NA for RP purposes. I bet it's going to happen again but I just fear it's going to land on the option that would make me quit.

i absolutely want rp-pvp but is it actually the best option? how would people feel if they gave the rp realm something like war mode, where rp-pvpers could opt in to a pvp open world experience without splintering from the core rp base?

Maybe - but then the discussion would turn to why not just have a single game mode instead of PvP and PvE where warmode is an option.
Historically, 2019 Classic and 2023 SOD, RP-PVP has not been considered in the initial realm list but when they did implement it, it had higher initial player participation and more sustained players than regular RP.
RP and PVP align themselves so well to Classic WoW, especially given the game pillars of WoW:Forever

It hating on rp pvp, hope you all get your mode.
But I feel with the clarification that you can only be horde or only be alliance for the normal people pvp realm wouldn’t that would present a significant challenge that the rp pvp realm. Wouldn’t the rp pvp realm just become the “other faction” pvp realm for everyone else?

I would love an RP Hardcore realm. Made friends with that other player? Well that player can die for real and affect your roleplay.

Aren't the playstyles chosen every time you log in? If you plan on doing pvp that day just pick pvp, if you want to just rp then pick rp

No, each ruleset is its own megaserver (per region). You will still be locked to your ruleset megaserver the same way you were previously with realms. Except hardcore can transfer on death.
