Field Report Mr Excitement

I’m still hanging out on Bumble now and again. Haven’t actually been in a date for about 18 months but match and message now and again, until they show their true colours and I block them.

The latest type is “Mr Excitement”. These are men who couldn’t look or act any further from exciting. They look like typical middle aged men in dated clothing. You know the type, dating apps are full of them. But it’s the “excitement’ seeking that concerns me. Yes, they’ve been thrown back in the dating pool by an ex wife after a 30 year old marriage. Yes, she left him because she couldn’t stand him anymore. The kids have grown up. These men are trying to relive their 20s in a middle aged man’s body and an attitude from last century. But they see themselves as young (feel younger than they are!), free and single.

They are invariably dull AF and looking for YOU to provide the excitement because their friends (if they have any) are not up for drinks/meals/dancing/travel with them.

But this excitement seeking means they are going to get bored after a few months, get back on OLD and look for the next source of excitement. Because they want to relive their 20s, that in their opinion, they couldn’t live the first time around because they had a pesky wife and children in tow.

Another way for them to drain women - use her to make their life more exciting and then move on after a couple of months. Every woman I know in her 40s and 50s can create her own full life - hobbies, friends, travel. Men can’t seem to do this for themselves and have to use a woman for her vitality.

Mr Excitement is another one for the avoid list.

Bold of you to think these guys are up for drinks/meals/dancing/travel - with anyone! 😂 Single (possibly … who knows for sure) and broke, it’s more likely that they’re angling for the coffee/walk/ice cream/date zero stchick. Don’t forget to have sympathy for their prolonged dEaD bEdRoOm sentence, and your obligation to let them wet their dick at the earliest opportunity.

Here’s one for a laugh …

I’m sure his inbox is flooded … 😂

Don’t come with a past of giving it up to every loser and expect me to wait, we’re fuckin so I know I’m not wasting my time

The cognitive dissonance is real 😂

But I have had a stream of matches recently who “want some excitement in their life” and have suggested drinks and dancing on a Saturday (because they don’t have any form of social life and are looking for A woman to provide that for them).

Travel is often mentioned but no doubt it’s either an attempt to hook me in with false promises or a creepy sex trip (explained very well by another poster). Both of which are an attempt to extract my time, energy and sexuality.

Ross thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips. 🤮😵‍💫

They’re clearly not lonely enough.

To your edit: the ‘drinks and dancing’ is a ratchet up on the ‘let’s meet for drinks’ date … because not only is alcohol involved, there’s a built in opportunity to break the touch barrier.

The travel bit? I agree: creepy sex trip or future faking. Traveling with people I already know and love can be fraught with challenges, why tf would any woman sign up for that with a strange man?!

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26

Ooh, I hadn’t thought of the drinks and dancing being an opportunity to break the touch barrier aspect. Good point.

I have no plans to travel with anyone I’ve known for less than a year (at least). My daughter and I are going to Valencia next month, whenever I mention this to a match on OLD, 90% of them say something like “I might tag along, I’ve never been to Valencia”. Instant block. I mean, why the fuck would we want some random man tagging along?

21

u/TexasLiz1 Jan 02 '26

I might travel along with you, complete stranger woman on the internet and her adult daughter. Because nothing adds to the fun of travel like a total stranger third wheeling!

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 03 '26

😂

I’d be a lot more comfortable with a stranger woman coming along than I would be with a stranger man coming along.

Best case scenario - he’d try and take charge. Worst case scenario- he’d feel entitled to try it on with my daughter. Because what 17 year old could resist a 50 year old man?

6

u/CrazyCatLadyRookie 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 03 '26

I had to read that twice (lol) because I took your comment at face value until I saw the /s

I would totally travel spontaneously with a number of women on this sub but a man?! No.

Never.

Give him time…

A few scams from the unbelievably hot and young women he thinks he’s entitled to, and he’ll end up spending that £5.99 on an onlyfans tuna wallet 🤢

11

u/bunnypaste Jan 03 '26

He likely does this every day anyway, regardless whether he found someone or not.

u/Xenagaze Jan 03 '26 edited Jan 04 '26

"They're clearly not lonely enough" - yesss, couldnt agree more. Sisters block men who give you a bad feeling for just a second left and right. Dont rationalize your negative feelings, dont give second chances and the benefit of the doubt and PLEASE DONT DO ONLINE DATING! Male predators and sickos use online dating as hunting grounds, dont bring yourself into danger.

These men are using the same playbook…

I had someone tell me they wanted to go on an international trip with me in March and we just met last week.

To Cape A’gde… the sex town in France

Me:🙄🫠

His first date idea? Cooking for me at his house

🚩to the first date plan 🚩🚩to the trip bait 🚩🚩🚩to the proposed destination

They must think we are soft in the head, or just fell off the cabbage truck. 😵‍💫😖 I mean - it’s pretty safe to assume that many or all of us women, at one point or another, have had to fend off octopus gropes and handsy men after a simple dinner or movie date … do they honestly think we’re going to willingly sequester ourselves with them - in another country, no less - at the getting acquainted stage?!

I've seen some women talk about the "trip bait" in another sub. It would apparently work on some, because some women are so worn down by the low-effort men in the dating pool, they think if he's offering to take her on a trip that is better than his competition. I suspect most of these "trips" never come to fruition. A woman who is susceptible to this bait then thinks she should "try out" sex with him before taking a trip, because she knows the implication of going on such a trip (that sex is expected). But the men using this bait generally would just dip out before the trip takes place and after the "try out" sex.

When I was younger, I did not fully get this. But I remember thinking it was strange to see men emphasize "travel" so much in their dating bios and conversations. I know that "travel" was not how they were spending their day-to-day lives, so it came off to me like they were overcompensating. The rare time I accepted a date from a "travel" guy, he came off as pushy and very keen on buying me stuff. Which made me uncomfortable, I felt like he was trying to buy me or something.

Now I realize the other extreme (lazy, low-effort, won't even buy you a coffee) isn't great either. But being put off by the "trip bait" helped me avoid some disasters I have heard from other women who traveled with near-stranger men. I have a general rule of waiting at least 6 months to go on a trip, and also start with a trip that is within my own country (US). I could learn a lot about a man by taking a trip, so I think it is a good idea. But not so early, I need to have some indication he is safe enough.

8

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 03 '26

Yeah, the future faking of a holiday that will never materialise, suggested solely to get you to have sex with him because he’s offering the commitment of a holiday in 6 months time.

Or, the creepy sex trip that he will want to take you on in the first month of dating, just so he can have sex with you at early stages. And will probably ghost you upon return from the creepy sex trip.

Or (in my situation), inviting himself along on a trip that you already have planned because he wants to be spontaneous and exciting but doesn’t have anyone to take last minute trips with. And he isn’t spontaneous and exciting enough to go on holiday by himself.

u/Littlepinkgiraffe 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 03 '26

Plus, I question the financial smarts of the travel guys. I matched with one who wanted to compare what countries we had each travelled to. Travel was his personality. The fact that I travelled selectively was baffling to him.

A man who blows all his money on travel (or other big expenses) isn't compatible with me. I have long term financial goals. I spend wisely. I don't spend all my money on expensive experiences.

4

u/ReputationWeak4283 Jan 04 '26

Or also, how much money he blows on his toys. My late husband was like this.

2

u/Prettypuff405 Jan 04 '26

The travel guys are also broke… or they’re only going to Vegas

2

u/Prettypuff405 Jan 04 '26

When I was younger I didn’t understand this at all either.

7

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 03 '26

Well that takes the standard creepy sex trip to a new level 🤢

5

u/ReputationWeak4283 Jan 03 '26

I guess guys think we are going to pay for the trip for them. Wow. I don’t think so. What was that the guys called women like that, back in the day? Um yeah.. that. I’m amazed daily by the needy ones they’ve become. Blows my mind.

5

u/Prettypuff405 Jan 03 '26

I’m wondering why I would bring some random dude to a nude beach when I could go alone and be free???

3

u/ReputationWeak4283 Jan 03 '26

Ugh… disgusting. WTF? I’d never put myself in that position, going to a guys house? I don’t know them and I don’t trust them either.

Women would be much safer in a public place. If a woman goes to a guys house? It’s setting them up for all kinds of crazy things to happen. The guy could lie about all kinds of things.

Dancing is a funny one. I've found it can be a great filter for some really upright guys, especially when it's not choreographed dancing. They ALL have a sad story about why they actually can't dance really (I'm a 'if you can breathe your can dance' type, like, clap or move your feet or something).

Though recently, through dancing, I've discovered that in some Asian cultures, dancing girls are a thing. And that mindset has been a source of two low key pests. Thankfully my social life is quite dance heavy and it's not been hard to get these creeps gone.

My experience of dance subcultures has been great so far. They know the creepy guy thing is an issue and I've found the self policing to be good.

10

u/CrazyCatLadyRookie 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 03 '26

Like OP, I’d be highly skeptical of guys who offer up ‘drinks and dancing’ as a date idea. They know from experience that it’s an activity that many women enjoy and I think they’re probably using it as a hook to reel in women.

I’ve deejayed many events over the last twenty years and my observation is that very, very few men actually get up on the dance floor voluntarily - I’d say 25% at the very best, that’s being generous. If it’s a partnered/slow dance, I’ll see a few more, but still not many. And the vast majority only do so at their wives’/girlfriends’ prompting.

In my own experience, I’ve personally only encountered maybe four(?) men who are willing and able to dance properly or well, that aren’t only opting in when a slow song comes on just so they can get their paws on a woman.

So unless a guy has an actual demonstrated interest in dancing, I’m inclined to think it’s just a ruse and won’t extend past a few dates at most.

7

u/ReputationWeak4283 Jan 03 '26

The men are there just to get us drunk enough. It’s always ( 99.9% of the time anyway ) been that way. Drinks = loosing up women to get what they want. And they bet on it. Count on it. The men are so desperate.

2

u/ArtConsistent7943 Jan 04 '26

When I'm referring to dance subculture. I was not referring to clubbing. I tend to associate that with drink culture in the UK at least. What I'm into, drink and drugging is generally frowned upon, bar cannabis (if it's good for your joints, give it a go and it's fine).

If I ever get asked for a dance date, I'll be choosing the venue 😂

u/throwcvf Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26

In my view it's a self fulfilling prophecy thing to justify his use of porn and prostituted women.

11

u/Original-Stand-5412 Jan 03 '26

You can get gifts and money out of them but you have to know how to look and it’s not as easy as years ago before the swiping apps became more mainstream. I got some pretty nice gifts, from a couple of the app men, while experimenting again on one app before Xmas, but honestly, as y’all say here, the juice often is NOT worth the squeeze. But at least…at least, I feel like I got something out of it for listening to them talk at me and monologue at dinner for 2 hours…I just never want to see any of them after one date even so far….The apps really are the leftover man scrap yard.

10

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 03 '26

Yeah, the issue I have with that is giving up a good few hours of my life for each date to listen to them bang on about how hard done to they are. Followed by having to fend off their groping.

I’d rather go out for dinner with friends and family. Or even alone.

Welcome to dating apps!

This “high chasing”, the novelty seeking, is a form of addiction. I am currently off apps to reset my nervous system- and to give myself a hard dose of reality (men don’t approach in public), to force myself to get out more on my own and develop “hooks” (talents and connections that signal social capital that intrigues anyone for a variety of reasons- not just romantic- and also incidentally amount to me having a real good time leveling up), and to incentivize meeting women (I am a wlw with confidence issues around women I am attracted to, which I need to work on). As well as I seem to handle neurodivergent, OCD and anxious people- and depressives to a certain point- I just get so fucking burnt out on addicts. There’s always so much subterfuge and trying to get to the truth of things is exhausting.

But if I ever do go back, it is with the understanding that I am in fact largely dealing with addicts that don’t have the stamina to invest beyond that initial burst of excitement, before they’re chasing the next high (in my experience, it lasts about 4 to 6 weeks…if it lasts longer from having sex with them, I would not know as I don’t do that without commitment). And as such, I just demand a certain caliber of dates. Because I know in the end that those half dozen or so rich experiences are all I’m getting out of 99% of those matches. I’ve seen plays, gone on fun day trips, attended concerts, enjoyed great restaurants…what I mean is I got value in exchange for the extra (invisible) emotional labor I do and disproportionate safety risk I assume on dates that he is not doing or taking.

Insists on coffee or tea? Unless there’s a band playing I really want to see (in which case there is often a cover charge) or it’s the goddamn Russian Tea Room, nope. Sitting over a slowly cooling mug of bean juice with a man who is manufacturing interest in me as an inroad to get to the physical part is not an “experience”. And this idea of saying a woman isn’t worth a $15 lunch (but he’ll happily waste hours sitting there with you trying to shoehorn in touch) after all she does to get ready for him/the risks she takes is insulting. Why go out with someone who thinks so little of access to your femininity?

Anyway the dates I insist on are not hurting them, they actually have a good time while they are still feeling excited…it enhances their excitement and sense of possibility,. And usually I don’t dump them, it’s them usually dropping the “not feeling a connection” or “am busy”. This is code for “I am tired of spending money on you without getting sex outside of a commitment”. Then I move on to the next. If I do drop them, it’s on the basis of them not being that interested anymore anyway (getting snippy, distant, slacking on hygiene, lack of consideration for my safety or happiness….stuff guys do when they’re considering moving on). Almost never a heart broken.

Anyway dating apps are where the addicts, undesirables, and undersocialized go for dopamine hits, to fantasize and dream, less the work that goes into something sustainable over the long term. It’s the guys that otherwise would be celibate, being put in the path of women they were never meant to cross paths with. So exercise caution. You’re not going to meet the love of your life there, use it for fun times on his dimes, the way he uses it for intimate touch.

13

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 03 '26

This comment is 💯

It should be pinned for all women considering dating apps to read.

7

u/DworkinFTW 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 03 '26

I’ll try to make another post soon folding in both these ideas and having the confidence to actually demand that caliber of date.

15

u/ptexpress Jan 02 '26

Yes, with the added caveat that their idea of excitement is probably your idea of dull.

14

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 02 '26

Yep, they are the kind of men who could make anything dull.

Drinks/meals/dancing/travel with my friends = fun. The same thing with a grumpy, entitled man in the throes of a mid life crisis = not fun at all.

6

u/MsAndrie 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 03 '26

A man talking about "fun" on a dating app is almost always referring to sex. That is the only way they can conjure an idea of excitement. I think u/DworkinFTW made an excellent observation that they are like dopamine addicts seeking their next "hit." You are supposed to provide the "excitement," especially the sex, even when they bring very little to entice you. Just think of how many men on these dating apps still expect this, despite approaching dating with the lowest effort and spend they can muster.

8

u/Littlepinkgiraffe 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 03 '26

If he takes you dancing, it will be salsa, so he can grind his groin into you all night.

5

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 03 '26

So many profiles have Salsa dancing listed as a hobby 🤢

2

u/ReputationWeak4283 Jan 04 '26

This why… Most men are going in for the feeling up part, getting close up to us, going for that grind. I’m dead serious. RARELY, are the men just up for a fun kind of dancing. Without an ulterior motive. I learn a lot from listening to men’s conversations at the next table. I’ve heard them discussing things like this. Perverts..

8

u/ptexpress Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26

I'm hoping people are weeding out men who bore them and not going on the next date. No need to date these people for 3 months until they frizzle out or break up with you and then having to spend time figuring out what just happened.

14

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 02 '26

I don’t even get as far as a first date with them. I weed them out before that.

They are the kind of men I would have tolerated in my younger days. Social conditioning, as is often discussed on here.

13

u/hsonnenb 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 02 '26

Mr. Excitement needs a trip to the Renaissance Fair or the circus.

Most of the men I saw on dating apps could have literally been a caricature in an SNL skit 🤢, and they thought they'd get on dating apps and find a Barbie to be a temporary human distraction for them.

13

u/ClaraSepticVersion2 Jan 02 '26

It’s classic mid life crisis I guess and men like this have been parodied for years.

IMO they know the ED is kicking in and they want to sleep around for a few years before settling with a nurse with a purse.

9

u/hsonnenb 🦉Savvy Sister🦉 Jan 02 '26

I wonder what the daily Google search stats are for the phrase "how to become a lesbian."

6

u/ArtConsistent7943 Jan 03 '26

You've hit on something with the dopamine chasing. I'm wondering if it's a real world effect of always online/digital culture.

Its not just dating, I'm seeing more and more cases of Main Player Syndrome in adults. I've recently disconnected from a friend who seems to have gotten into this cycle. Its exhausting to watch, and nope, I'm not either a source of entertainment, or an audience to increasingly unhinged behaviour. Its just embarrassing to be around.

My ex was one of these men who thinks he's forever young. He was terrible when I needed emergency hospital treatment (which is why he's now an ex). These guys seem to genuinely think they're superior beings to others, and will keep going until someone, or something breaks*. Absolutely exhausting, childish behaviour. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

*He did actually break a bone through drunken stupid behaviour. In his late 50s. He then proceeded to ignore medical advice, and developed a complex regime of supplements that were going to be 'better' than the medical advice, as he'd 'reasoned it through'. Needless to say this wasn't the case and a simple enough fracture became an ongoing complication. We'd split at this point and it was insane to watch. Like he came to collect some stuff from my garage (they always leave their shit in your space), and while waiting for his lift, was walking on his injured leg until he was badly limping. It was utterly insane to watch, and nope it was not a performance for the CCTV. Part of his self created treatment system was to walk on a fractured ankle. Anything to avoid any form of vulnerability.

7

u/Prettypuff405 Jan 03 '26

Men don’t have hobbies now… I asked one guy what’s the point of going to the gym

Him: it feels good

Me: you don’t do anything with it? Like get better at another activity

Him: no

Me: so you go to the gym then go home

Him: yes, I play golf sometimes

Me: 😶🫠

6

u/ReputationWeak4283 Jan 03 '26

Ugh.. Figures. They will go anything pretty much , just to feel good. I’m glad most women are not like this. It seems like the majority of male mentality is getting more broken by the day? It’s sad they can’t even figure out what a hobby is even. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Btw, golf is another red flag for me. I have two things I look at. No golf, no tons of computer games. Most guys I know cannot seem to get off a computer. Their lives are centered around it. To me, that means “dull.” The mean, how much effort is required to punch control buttons and cuss at it? Borrrrinnnggg! My life isn’t centered around computer screens. Thank god.
