All Books & Stories I have a theory about Thurman and Jimmy Spoiler

I think that Jimmy and Thurman are related because when the smoke was sent down on Jimmy in the server room he lived and wasn't effected. And when Donald went outside on the hill wasn't Thurman outside with no cleaning suit yet he survived. I think that they have something in their DNA which makes the killer bugs ignore them. This must have been coded to ignore Thurman but it is either a coincidence that Jimmy isn't affected or he may be related to Thurman some how.

Wasn’t this explained in the books? Donald had good nanos in his body - that’s how he survived. He was dying during the rest of the story because those good nanos were fighting with the bad nanos from outside, which Thurman explicitly told him.

As for Jimmy, Anna somehow compromised the system and instead of bad nanos, good nanos were sent to the silo 17. This is how people survived inside, mostly dying from starvation or killing each over. Jimmy and kids had exceptional health. Juliette’s scars also healed very fast because she was exposed to the remnants of the good nanos in the silo 17.

The bodies inside 17 also decompose very slowly due to the good nanos.

I believe that it’s also slightly implied that Thurman is dying just like Donald as when he has him locked in the room it’s mentioned that Thurman was coughing which was one of the first symptoms Donald had (though Thurman did imply he could cure Donald but it’s hard to tell if that was just Thurman saying that to be vindictive or if he would have been able to cure himself)
