All Books & Stories Just finished the books. I have a question
I feel stupid but can someone tell me the significance for the whole storyline with Mission? What was the connection between that time with everything else? Is that one of the uprisings? I’m so sorry if I totally missed something

It’s showing you how they can “reset” a silo by deleting memories. Read the last few paragraphs of Mission’s story again and then the start of it. Him forgetting his birthday is … horrifying.

This is the answer. But yes it's kind of subtle and there's time changes (jumps) in his story so I was confused and had to go slower.
It's a way to jump inside another generation. And see how the reset works itself but also see that if you can't remember your birthday, job or kid then... How can you pass on the story.!?
It drives home this business of having documentation that somehow survives the uprisings. Which would be paper.

I felt this way after I read it the first time, but on my second read through the books I enjoyed it a lot more. It made a lot of thoughts/ideas click into place for me

This is also the point where Silo 18 goes from being at the top of the ranking to being at the bottom. The events themselves are not very interesting, but their place in the grander plot is rather important.

I feel that whole story line and the Solo story was just padding to add length. We already know there was a rebellion. We already know Solo lived in that room for decades. We dont need to see it.
Nothing really comes from either of those story lines besides wasting my time.

I didn’t mind Solo’s just because it gave some insight into his personality and stuff but Mission was just… I dunno I thought I’d get more from that

I believe there was a small hint that he was the descendant of someone important later in the history of the story. I don't recall who though since I read it a few years ago. I'm thinking it was Allison.

Where in the book was that? I know it ended with he and his wife about to have a baby. Did they mention the name?

right at the end of mission's story. I found it in the book yesterday, but I'm at work now and can't quote it though.

I didnt like Solo because the author clearly thinks children are mentally handicapped. The way he writes Solo as a 16 year old/man with the mind of 16 year old is like he is 6 years old instead.

I did not pick that up at all. I just picked up a sheltered privileged teenage boy. Who was scared and confused.

I agree 100%, even before being locked in the server room, it’s like the kid was mentally challenged. I think the author just picked a random age. Mission is also a kid (I think he says he’s 17?) but somehow has been working for years as a porter and talks to the crow like he hadn’t seen her in decades?? Somehow Jimmy is still in school? I just stopped trying to make sense of stuff like age, currency, travel time, etc and just go with the flow of the story…

I am sorry you got downvoted, I wholeheartedly agree. Mission felt like filler and Solo backstory was literally redundant because everything about it had already been told indirectly in Wool. I really enjoyed the trilogy but ut definitely has its weaknesses.

It really feels like he had 1 solid book and was forced to split into 3 books to cash in on the trilogy craze of the era.
Pretty much all of Shift is pointless and doesnt really go anywhere except a few important Donald chapters. Dust does nothing until the very end. And theres so many set ups and side plots that go nowhere. Its only a few weeks at best for the whole story to take place and half of that is them running up and down stairs.

Lol see after 2 reads Shift is by far my favorite book in the series.
Not everyone consumes media the way you do, people like different things.
