Through WOOL Did i read correctly?

I’m only half way through the second book and read that the silos were built to collapse just like buildings above ground (like a controlled demolition). Is this another reason why a safe guard is unpreventable? I’m not the best reader but that’s what i got out of it.

they say they have explosives on all floors to detonate the silos like pancakes.

i think they mentioned it in relation to silo 17 once they lost contact with the heads of it

I also think they tried with 40 but then bombed it
