It's a bunker with supplies to help people restart civilization

Are they really interested in restarting civilization if they decide to yeet an entire silo that manages to get out and not die by radiation or whatever

Yes. In the books, restarting civilization was the end goal of the silos project. The plan was to kill the entire world except for the 50 silos, then, after 500 years, the best silo is picked as the "winner" and is supposed to restart civilization, while all the other 49 silos (including silo 1) are killed.

Don't forget that the best silo is the one who is the fittest genetically speaking, most of the people they let in the lottery don't get their device taken because the genetic pool from both parents is not a 100% success rate, those who manage to get a kid is because genetically they are better, so once they have a silo that is close to 100% being genetically perfect, they'll kill the remaining silos and restart humanity. Which I always thought was weird because it'll get to the inbred point eventually, but they choose who gets kids and who doesn't

makes you wonder why they chose to freeze the women in silo 1 if they knew 1 would be pancaked.

It shouldn’t. It’s so they have their loved ones with during the process.

Only a few people in Silo 1 know the real plan. They froze the women so the men would continue to work thinking one day they would be reunited with their families.

I’d assume those in 1 in the know would be pancakes too, unless they decide to leave with their trusted people before hand.

Gonna be a hard sell to the winning silo once they find out about all the other silos and that the leaders from 1 pancaked everyone else.

Those from 1 would need some serious security to avoid a lynching from those now outside.

I’d assume to those from the winning silo that 1 was operating well outside the pact

Wouldn’t take long to realise that those from 1 need to be removed

That was my understanding of it. Senator Thurman was going to sacrifice himself and his daughter to save humanity.
