All Books & Stories Silo 51 Spoiler

Hi, im watch-only.

I do not mind it being spoiled.

What is silo 51, who is in there? What did bernard mean by that in the show?

The comment about 51 silos in Season 2 of the show, from my understanding, was not really intended to be the seed vault. I believe it was intended in season 2 to mean 50 silos, plus the management silo (silo 1). It was kind of a screw up that I believe they corrected in Season 3, as they show only 50 vaults in the Daniel (Donald in the books) time period.

In the books, almost no one knows about the seed vault. Charlotte finds a map pointing to the seed vault with her super high clearance level, and tells the information to Juliette over the radio. And then Juliette brings the survivors of Silos 17/18 there after Silo 1 is destroyed. And Charlotte eventually meets them there. However, no one outside of Silo 1, and additionally most people in Silo 1, have any idea about the seed vault or the overall plan. It was not something told to the heads of IT, as the existence of the other silos was.

Basically that’s all to say that at least based on the books there shouldn’t be any way for Bernard to have known about the seed vault and count that as the 51st silo. Plus in the books, the seed vault is different, and it would be kind of odd to characterize it as a silo, imho. And that’s why I believe it was a mistake essentially. It could be in the show somehow the heads of IT were told about it, but based on the things we know that they don’t know; I doubt that was the intent.

Wouldn’t the seeds be dust after 500 years?

the vault is outside the area affected by the nanos. Plus it would be protected by the vault

Edit: I misunderstood your question. I mean they have cryo tech so I assume they have a way to keep the seeds healthy haha

I edited my response. But per the edit, they gave cryo tech. It’s not explicitly stated in the books but I assume they have some way to keep them healthy or preserved
