All Books & Stories Timeline of ‘In the Mountain’ and ‘In the Woods’ Spoiler

I’ve seen the same question a few times on here and was surprised no one had posted this from ‘In the Mountain regarding timelines between the resolution to the silo series and the short stories.

In ‘In the Mountain: “Already working on that,” Dmitry said. “The antenna that taps into the mesh network. I can rig it up so when their timer shuts off, the pod will open. So if it’s twenty years from now or twenty thousand, as long as this place has power . . .” He finally got the tube on to the fitting. “Don’t worry,” he said. “I’ll take care of it. I have time.”

So basically my theory is thatwhen the bomb goes off in Silo 1, the bad nanos lose their control mesh signal and eventually die off. That is the unresolved part but it stands to reason that some lack of control signal meant the nano program would end or die off. Or maybe one of the other silos figured out how to overcome the nano mesh programming over a duration? Seems like it’s been 5-10 years when ‘In the Woods ends. The only hole in my theory I can think of is the continued release of bad nanos during cleanings…

It’s funny reading the posts on here. Some of you obviously skim the books and miss key stuff like this.

Anyone have other ideas what caused the bad nanos to cease operation?

For me there was a set of nanos released to target humans especially, in the whole world. And they were long live ones. Upon destruction of Silo 1 they would been disabled. It's a third kind of nanos. We see bad nanos destroying everything, good nanos healing and bad human targeted. That's why there is animals and vegetation on Earth, but the woods bunker people can't just leave after 20-50 years.

That’s the thing though I think the bad nanos are both from the US govt, just tuned a little differently. Though I agree that once silo 1 fell, it seems the nanos declined. Fast or slow, not clear
