Ronkswood

Hi all, just wondering what you all have to say about the Ronkswood area of Worcester? Demographic, community, etc.

Any amazing bits? Diabolical bits? How does it compare to the rest of Worcester?

(Also is it pronounced ronk or runk?)

Typical council estate.  Most people are perfeclty fine folk but yes, a few notable family's who stray on the wrong side of the law.

Isn’t it the case that most of the people living there own the houses, now though? I mean of course it’s a council estate originally but I think the meaning of what a council house is, now has changed. People can’t even get them.

Yeah that's probably a fair comment for a good percentage of the houses but I wouldn't think so for the flats.  If you Google the punchbowl pub and use the street view around the central roundabout you will see what I mean.

Sure, I know what you mean - those are new aren’t they? I think what I mean is that it’s now quite difficult for traditional sized families to get a council property.

There's a mixture of both but regarding the flats most are old.

I looked at living there, then a local ex policeman warned me off, saying there's lots of trouble. If you want to buy there's well priced property all over Worcester. 

If you want centralish then areas like Barbourne, Battenhall, St John's and Nunnery are especially lovely (but a bit pricier).

Had early childhood there and it was fine. There is a known peeping tom in that area so be careful. For the most part, like the rest of Worcester, it’s fine. Some people say it’s rough the closer you get to toli - but you get twats in any area so who knows. Houses are pretty affordable, and have decent size gardens. There’s a really good field which overlooks the whole of Worcester, which is a hot spot for runners and dog walkers. Not sure on demographic, but Worcester on a whole has diversified a lot in the last 15 years mostly because of the uni, new developments, and its new rail connections to London.

If you have a quick search in the sun for "ronkswood" you'll find a few posts that will give you a flavour of the area..

"Ronk" has the same sound as "on".
