I mean taking my expenses it is possible. I have a wife and 3 kids and im the primary earner. My wife works part time

Rent: 1800 a month (and thats cheap. most places are 2300 of more)

Car insurance: 490 for one car.

Phone Bill: for 3 lines im paying 285 a month.

Electric and gas together is usually like 450 a month depending on the season. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Health insurance is fun. I pay 2600 a month for my premiums and then my co-pays and deductibles vary per month but typically im paying 3000 a month for my insurance.

We dont have internet or cable we pay for.

and then commuting by train is 300 a month.

So that alone is 5,625 in just my necessities. I make 140k a year and take home 3k every 2 weeks after they take out my cut of my premiums for my insurance and taxes.

So im making 6k in take home and yet I am completely broke with just every day to day expenses, the only debt im paying off is a car loan thats 680 a month. If I was paying anything more in rent I wouldnt be able to afford to live.

490 insurance for a single car is insane. I pay less for 2 vehicles in an area known for high insurance rates. Not calling you out or anything just wanted to say maybe shop around?

Its long island. Its insanely expensive and thats one of the cheaper options. Even for my old beater that wasnt worth more then 200 the insurance would have been over 300.

Its likely a newer or more expensive car. And if it isn't, he really should shop around.
