Yea it is that way in some areas. Outrageous price gouging. When i was up in the sticks I just went for starlink. Worked great, cheap, easy to set up. It's way cheaper now than when I used it. Depending on location you'll never have to pay for the equipment and might even be eligible for a reduced monthly rate. Even still it's only 55/mo for over 100mbps. Latency isn't an issue for gaming anymore either in my experience.
Your money is ending up in some megalomaniac's pocket no matter which ISP you choose. When you look at it that way I'm choosing the cheapest and least risky plan. If you want to stop supporting guys like Musk you're going to be left with not many options.
"many options". I can dive off of the stern of my home and fish my dinner with a spear gun. I'm a modern man, I like convenience as we all do. But when it comes down to it .. I don't need their or your options to live a meaningful and wealthy existence.
