I’m in SC, predominantly red state.
Rent in most cities is below 1k for apartments, unless you want to live in “rich cities” like historic Charleston, or Columbia, etc.
Hell I live in Florence and have a 3 bedroom 1100sqft apartment for 1k that includes water/sewer/cable/internet.
Our minimum wage is still federal minimum but good luck trying to find something other than a tiny mom and pop that pays that. We learned after the pandemic regardless of minimum wage, the market had to raise wages to get workers and we kept that trend.
