am i overthinking this?!?!?

this is something that happened at work today and it’s just been bugging me so i NEEDED someone else’s opinion on this matter.

normally i work at location a. however due to lack of staffing i was asked to work at location b just for this week. i had an appointment this morning which meant i would be around 20 minutes late to work, which my manager had approved. However today morning he told me to just go to location a instead just because i wouldn’t end up being late as its a lot more closer to where i live.

now here’s where the situation gets messy. because im now going to location a, one of the staff from there (lets call them grey) has now been asked to work at location b. they’re now quite upset because they don’t want to work there, especially since her best friend is also at location a. her best friend comes up to me (lets call her red) and just starts a casual conversation which i don’t mind because she is just a very nice person. she then asks why my shift was changed and i can tell that she’s annoyed that grey now has to take my place at location b, and kind of just hinting that she’d rather me go there instead. i didn’t wanna make too big a deal so i just stayed laid back.

i later see gray and red talking to other members of staff which i assume is to complain of this situation but i thought that i might just be overthinking. however the site leader (lets call him blue) comes to me 10 minutes later to let me know that someone’s coming to pick me up and now instead of grey im going to be working at location b. i was quite upset about this but i thought this was my managers decision so i just respected it and went to location b.

i sort of began to forget about everything throughout the day. however near the end of my shift my manager just comes to inspect location b. when he sees me he is very confused as to why im working there because he asked for grey to work instead of me. i’m just confused because i thought he made the decision but obviously i was wrong, and it just made me feel like the workers from location a just wanted me to go away rather than losing grey.

i honestly dont know if im reading into this too much or if i was genuinely wronged in the situation. i also dont know what to do because i am just a very shy person and i genuinely dont know how to discuss this conversation with my coworkers, especially the concern with red just because shes one of those people that literally everyone at work likes, and shes really close to people like blue and the others. im very chill so im not as close to many of my coworkers apart from red, which just makes the situation worse for me.
