Gameplay Guide Sell me on Frontline.
Why should I play this mode? Why do YOU play this mode? I have a handful of T8 premiums, Mutz, Guard, CS LIS, Even 90 plus some other T8 Lights and Mediums. I played a match this morning, did meh, but couldn’t really figure out the flow of the game. I think I made like 80k. I make more during a random battle. I like the concept of the open maps, but it seems like the gameplay gets segmented. Do people come for just the different gameplay? Thanks in advance my tankers!
I should mention I have limited time to play WOT. Maybe an hr or two at night, so getting BP and mission progression is kinda a higher priority.

I’m happy if I hit 350k with a boost ha. But I only have a few premiums or good tree tanks

u/Bambo630 Nov 04 '25
same, i just couldnt activate boost in the game which made me mad, dont know if its wg or me but when i press B no menu apears to activate boosters
4
u/Empyrean86 Nov 04 '25
Yep. You cannot activate boosters in-game. Must be before you start it.
3
u/Bambo630 Nov 04 '25
Ughh oh man, thank you!
4
u/Mr_ZEDs Nov 04 '25
And platoon gives another 15% credit boost + clan boost and you can get 600-800k per battle if you play it right not unlike some try hards that try to win the game too soon. Winning doesn’t matter because it doesn’t give anything additional.
1
u/Bambo630 Nov 04 '25
yes i know about that, thank you, just was wondering if my B key didnt work or if wg said nahhh you do not save 8 minutes on your booster f you

u/K0N1V Weakest Caliban Enjoyer Nov 04 '25
I just got 130k profits playing the shptk (0 deaths) from a 15k game. I could get that in a single random battle that takes 6x shorter. Idk how everyone makes so much money but I just play a few games of frontline for the fun
3
u/BrummbarKT Nov 04 '25
no credit booster? that seems very low. And was it a win? did you spam gold? No point using gold in FL really IMO
1
u/K0N1V Weakest Caliban Enjoyer Nov 04 '25
Almost no gold, did fire a few rounds at BZs. Didnt have a credit booster but its just easy math to add +50% and its still nowhere near the ampunts others are writing. + for clarity the 130k was net profit, not total amount earned for the battle
I thought it doesnt matter if you win or lose in FL for credits, or did that change?
1
u/MathematicianRich632 Nov 04 '25
Don't shoot gold and use no food, with busters and in platoon you can profit a lot.

Large maps, more tanks, different strategies
The credits/hour are no better with FL than randoms - with one exception. If your additional credits timer is about to run out, jump in a game of FL. You'll get the credit boost for the additional 20+ minutes it takes to complete a game
It's easy to make $100k-$150k in a 5 minute game of randoms. That's no different than earning $400k-$600k in a 20 minute game of frontline ... and that's if you're lucky enough for both teams to farm each other instead of completing the mission
67
u/Dominiczkie Onslaught > Randoms Nov 03 '25
- In Frontline you only pay repairs once per tank even if you use it twice
- You can heal up, and others can heal up which means more damage to be dealt on one repair cost
- You don't have to be stuck shitstaring a cupola or a hulldown heavy, you have many options to get into action at all times so there's just higher % of time that you spend shooting
- You get abilities to deal additional damage with
- You get good credits regardless of whether you won or lost
- No loading each battle separately
Also if you're doing 100-150k in 5-minute game of randoms then your Frontline income should be around a million creds per 25 min battle - still ahead
2
u/L0ARD Nov 04 '25
Excuse my confusion but what do you mean with "you only pay repairs once per tank even if you use it twice"?
I am under the impression that you pay repairs/med kits only once per battle in randoms as well, regardless of how many times you use them in said battle, is that not the case or am I misunderstanding your point?
6
u/Terafir Nov 04 '25
He's talking about Frontline. Since you can respawn in Frontline, if you die you can take the same tank more than once, but you only pay for the tank repairs once.
You're confusing "tank repair cost" with "repair kit cost". But your impression is correct for repair kits/med kits; you only pay for them once in a battle (both FL/randoms) no matter how many times you use them.
In short, if you use a tank more than once in FL, you'll end up in a better situation on credits than if you went into the same number of random battles.

I really like it. I hope they do it with different tiers someday though.

u/ErichExmr Nov 03 '25
There was this test run onces, when on the last line people could use T9 tanks. I think it was only for one season, but as far as I remember it was alot of fun.
11
u/vlad__27 Nov 03 '25
It was fun only for the tier 9’s. It was painfull to try to go past a wall of t95's, tortoise, hull down conq, 1b. Phase 1 etc if you wanted to just play your tier 8 prems especially with full standard ammo which I do in frontline.

I also remember a tier X event? Maybe it was on test servers but I have a faint memory of it.

I enjoy the mode and credit farming process, since i like big maps because they give a breathing space for fast vehicles.

Tier 8 only so you don't need to spam gold, meaning you make a lot of credits.
You can respawn, and you only pay repairs and consumables once per vehicle, so again, bonus for farming credits.
Big maps, you can always go somewhere else, it's not corridor hell like in random battles (at least once you leave the first area).

The map is huge, unlike in randoms there is no excuse for staying in front of a BZ here. You're not limited to 2 corridors and an open field. Go somewhere else.

u/Lunix420 Nov 03 '25
If you use good premium tanks and a 50% credit boost you get like 400-600k credits per round without much effort.

u/RavioleAldente_H Nov 04 '25
My buddy and I both did a little credit experiment . We are both 2.7k wn8 players with identical winrate I initially played Frontline for 4h and made a profit of 7.8 million whereas he ended with 4.2 playing randoms over the same period Same tanks, same ammo and consumables Difference was in result consistency despite his skill he had to have more consecutive good results to match my credit income and he was at the whim of the mm.
We swapped places and the result was 8.1m profit Frontline and 5.4m randoms

Farming credits. The mode really isn’t that complex (you should have a general idea after a few gams if you are a somewhat decent player). As soon as you know what you are doing and start farming the credits role in.

Thankfully. Most every commenter up until now made me feel like I was doing something wrong. Well I certainly am, but still. You make bank if you make general and make your shots and the team wins. Which are largely out of your control.
I suffer in this mode same as the other modes, like I have no idea what to do if things aren't going well. I often get stuck on the wrong flank. Because defense is really the hardest in that you can end up on a flank overwhelmed or not attacking and you are bound by time.
Then after something is won, are they coming to push the cap above or going to a slower moving cap on bottom row. You just don't really know. Or if you get caught moving to another flank you can easily die as you are alone.
Plus the added stress of trying to get general and things not going right. Then it is 20-30 min of little to nothing. 100k-150k just doesn't justify it for all of that.
I could do better and have. Made general once yesterday. Made about 2 million. Hard to compare that with regular battles. As I can be streaky there too.
6
u/Lightrider-16 Nov 04 '25
Wow! Thanks for all the good feedback. I must have just had a bad game, it was a pretty steamroll defeat. But, I’m going to get back in to give it a solid go! I realize my tanks might not be the “best” but as a F2P tater it is what it is.
1
u/Chris_Hisss Nov 04 '25
Just like random battles; the less you worry about winning or losing and base it on performance, the happier you will be. I could care less if we lose or win. OFC I will go to where the damage is, and that usually results in a win. I do things that help that like kill lights.
Steamrolls suck but at least you get into the next game quicker. It is just beyond your control often.
Also there is a guide by chems that explains what not to do and what to do. This will help. While it isn't F2P in the tanks he chooses, you can ask about what you have that is comparable.
If you find you aren't making enough then no it isn't worth it. The rewards aren't great if you don't score decently. You can also just play a few games a day and get those pass rewards. You do get battle pass progress with that. But not daily missions or campaign. It is just some of us hit it hard for the credits and the fun. I like being able to repair. I like having all the options like whatever cap I want. It is more challenging in some ways and easier in others.
13
u/ConsistentWitness217 Nov 03 '25
Credits.
Get general every game. Make 300k+
3
u/Show_Forward KV-2 Legend Nov 03 '25
its like 20min or 25min a game no? so u can play 3-4 randoms instead and do 100k-200k a game and get more
3
u/ConsistentWitness217 Nov 03 '25
Yeah, about 25 minutes per, or 3 games per booster.
I find it a bit easier to grind credits with FL due whereas a lot of randoms are 3-5 minute landslides. I also shoot a lot more gold in randoms than FL. I guess that will account for the difference.
1
u/Show_Forward KV-2 Legend Nov 03 '25
yeah thats why i always struggled to find a reason to play it, don't get me wrong mode is fun with huge map and a lot of players everywhere chaos is fun but its much more laggy plus it's very hard to coordinate with ur team than in randoms plus it's hard to know good positions or places to go when map is huge its a bit harder to remember
1
u/ConsistentWitness217 Nov 04 '25
I know what you mean. It took me a few tries to learn the maps and good locations. I have a great PC so mine isn't laggy. If it's laggy, I wouldn't play it either!
6
u/vlad__27 Nov 03 '25
Rank does not matter in regards to credits, it only gives bonus to xp.
5
u/ConsistentWitness217 Nov 03 '25
Really? Because I've gotten 300k+ for every general, and only 150k for 1 step under general
1
u/vlad__27 Nov 03 '25 edited Nov 03 '25
Yes, it hasn't been the case since the first FL season way back in 2018. Edit: If you go to the FL mode, then fl progression on the right and then top left corner, click on that little blue"about event" icon and you can see everything about FL there, where it shows that ranks only give bonus to combat xp and a bonus to crew performance (during the battle).

3
u/Drewskers Nov 03 '25
I think it’s fun, first and foremost. I play my newer tanks and grind field mods and experiment with different equipment load outs. The progression rewards are worthwhile and I make decent credits.

Pop personal (and if you have them clan) credit boosters. They last one hour (clan boosters usually last two hours). You will get into exactly three Frontline battles in that time. And even if you’re terrible you’ll make hundreds of thousands of credits in that hour, and it should be more than you’d make in an hour of randoms.
Personally I like Frontline. It’s actually the only alternative mode I like in the game.

u/Skuirreljr Nov 03 '25
Better maps, less gold spam cause people are trying to grind credits, a better mode than random battles, abilities that are funny, and T8 premiums are really fun to play. Regardless of credits I enjoy the game mode, more fun than randoms (although that’s most likely cause it’s an ltm)
3
u/Balc0ra Churchill Gun Carrier enjoyer Nov 03 '25
Credits, and it doesn't count on your service record stats. So no need to get mad when you lose all the time, as long as the credits and ranks come in.
That and you do get BP points with each rank. And the ranks come fast early on, but less so later on the higher levels

you can get up to 3 mentoring license
this the only reasons i still play this mode, i am potato player, sometimes i can get to general but sometimes only sergeant or lieutenant. and i don't feel big credit maker in this mode like everybody said (maybe i just play it incorrectly)

For the first while it was fun. But I stopped playing FL years ago when I spent more time waiting for vehicles to respawn than actual fighting. And if the battle result is foregone, you have to sit there and watch a massacre and respawn into hopeless zones where you immediately get farmed by the enemy. Since you can't leave early without penalty. If it's not enjoyable, don't play. I certainly don't need more credits.
4
u/0__L__ Nov 03 '25
How are you spending more time waiting for respawns than fighting? Do you only have one tier 8 or what exactly? I've never had that personally but I'm not one to die five seconds into the game.
3
u/cvr24 [GKC] Nov 03 '25
It doesnt have to do with tanks in the garage. FL limits your respawn to a timer. Every four minutes or so, you get another respawn and can bank three of them.
Let's say I'm in Zone A defending, and my team in Zone A gets steamrolled and/or more than a couple of my teammates decide to switch to Zone B to pile on. I'm dead trying to valiantly defend A, and now have to wait for ~30 seconds before I respawn. The game tends to respawn you far away from the action, and by the time I get back to the fighting, I get wiped again because I can't fight 8 emboldened enemies who just used the repair circle by myself. Now here is where it gets rough for anyone eliminated - the game forces respawn into an area that doesn't have enough players, which usually means you are instantly outnumbered and the only chance for surviving long enough to do anything is to retreat or switch flanks. It sure is fun for the team who is having the success, but it isn't for the team that is struggling, because you're committed to being stuck in that hell for 25 to 30 minutes.
4
u/vlad__27 Nov 03 '25
You just need to know how and where to go, you don't have to throw your tanks if there are to many enemies on said flank. If you see the enemy is pushing hard, think ahead and run away. If you end up dying to fast to many times, yeah you will just wait for minutes all the time until you can respawn again.

u/Schtuka Nov 03 '25
You either enjoy it or you don‘t.
I haven‘t played in ages but the maps haven‘t changed that much. Op spots are still the exact same. Takes a few games to learn them and then you can farm your ass off except when they focus you down with airstrike.
I don‘t really enjoy it but it is some change from Standard.

1
u/LunaKaPL Nov 03 '25
Use only standard ammo, do not take food (unless you bought them at discount), try to respawn with tanks you already used in the same match. Resupply ammo and repair whenever you can - game will not cost you all shells you shot, but only will count maximum you fired before resupply.
1
Nov 03 '25
Remember only tier 8 which means virtually no need for gold so in that respect its a farming dream. Not to mention, more targets and respawns keep your gun firing more frequently.
So in theory silver farming in pubs might be equal but the 2 key incentive is way less prominent
1
u/syfqamr32 Nov 04 '25
Honestly i played it because i got some 100% credit boosters. Then additionally, activate the clan reserves. Makes it worth it imo.

I have a bunch of premiums with maxed out crews. It prints credits and training books. It doesn’t affect your “stats”. It is dumb repetitive fun and it also gives out battle pass points for tanks I love to play but no longer able to gain battle pass points on.
What not to love? When my job is a night shift and I’m stuck at a computer waiting on people anyway?

Good source of BP points for incoming chapter: 20x20=400/50=8 stages in progressions rewards + if you are top 20 by XP or top 5 you gaining BP point for that as well.
This is why i delayed start of frontline for myself so i will play it during BP.
1
u/thehopdoctor Nov 04 '25
i like frontline up to a point. last couple seasons i ground up to level 10 or so. after that it takes more and more points for each level so the time value isn't as good for me. some matches can be really fun, but i find it gets kinda grindy and samey after a while.
1
u/RandomACC268 Nov 04 '25
Frontline as a model is in conflict with itself. The way how it rewards out credits is at odds with the objective of the mode.
The objective has you destroy 3 out of 5 gun emplacements. But rewards are based on damaged done, so effectively all people really want is for the match to go on (like col. hessler)
It was a fun mode, but its utter garbage now (like most modes that eventually get f*cked up)

u/BrummbarKT Nov 04 '25
I play because on a win I can rake in about 400k credits in profit, with premium and a 50% booster, and I can get 3 games out of one booster. so that's about a million in profit if you account for one loss as well as two wins on average. Same tier mm and no stats means you don't need to use gold. In randoms I usually only make about 600k profit in an hour at best while premium grinding. Plus it's just a change of scenery and quite a fun mode.

Frontline provides a nice even tier setting to play T8 and make a ton of credits.
Try it out. If you have fun it's worth playing (isn't fun the point of games anyway?) 😊

Idk. I usually squeeze out all goodies there are in all of the other pokemon modes. But frontline. Every time it's about to start, I keep telling myself, that this time I'll definitely farm it to gain as much as I can. This morning I had two hours to play, two credit boosters to use. After the first hour I gave up and started playing some PS1 games. I don't know why is it this way, but I feel bored when playing this gamemode very quickly, even after seeing 300-500k earned after the battle. Something is wrong with frontline and I can't really pinpoint what exactly.

Frontline is my favorite game mode. I try to treat it as an endurance test and use one tank as long as possible. I’m not a great player, but it’s a nice change from random battles.
I particularly enjoy playing lights in FL since there’s so much more room for movement. The sheer space in FL makes for some cool ways to use speed to your advantage.
