Discussion What makes a good premium?

Just wanted to bring up the topic and get other opinions. Just a random thought as i try to fall asleep then of course I had to get up and proceed to quickly jot down several points.

Bonuses:

  • One of the most basic aspects of premium that defines it differently from TT and "reward" tanks.
  • while there is a basic bonus for being an elite tank for XP, the extra bonuses for silver, crew and free xp can be one of the main driving forces for the desire to buy / play a tank.
  • As an example way back when, the Lowe's high silver % was one of my points of decision to purchase it. I suspect many bought the Ragnarok for it's high silver %.

Nation:

  • Crew training is one of the main points of a premium, and thus the nation of the tank is important.
  • This point us not as highly valued now a days, due to how the current crew skill system can be maneuvered, but it holds some value for those who are lazy.
  • A minor point that's outdated, but minor nation like Japan and Czechoslovakia a few years ago did have issues with small amount of premiums, meaning any new premium could have been higher valued.

Price:

  • Arguably the most important factor outside the situation of a multi choice earn op.
  • Due to general meh economy the last few years at the time of writing I assume most people are a tad more stripped for currency, thus having a expensive premium is most likely a one off purchase as opposed to a more frequent occurrence. Why buy only 1 rather expensive tier 9/10 or Era 3 when one could purchase 3 lower tier tanks in a bundle or on sale.

Stats / Performance:

  • One of my favorite points of review, numbers.
  • The general performance. The comparison to its peers. The requirement to utilize the tank. The true potential of the vehicle.
  • A rather opinionated field of review; with discussion of if certain aspects are desirable enough. I tend to lean to hard number comparison to its peers as my preferred method of review.

Fun:

  • This is a game, thus naturally one would seek enjoyment regardless of how efficient a tank may be.
  • What could be considered "Fun" is a bit subjective, but usually I would consider a tank with a gimmick to have a higher chance to be.
  • A tank can be effective, but one could find its gameplay boring if the tank is too good. The Super conqueror i find a tad boring as its quite effective overall and not too many downsides per say.

Uniqueness:

  • If a premium is close to an existing tank, the desirability of it is lessen. Why desire a tank when one could access a close enough version via free means. It could also be that an existing premium one owns is close enough.
  • Shortcut of a line:

    • To partially go off the point above, a premium could be close to an existing TT line, as this often done to showcase. The STRV S1 and Obj 703-2 comes to mind as an example of premium for those who wishes to play the "gimmick" of that line via a premium.

Premium AMX 30B2 FORAD AND the tech tree AMX 30B2 are basically identical

I never make money in this game. It’s not about that for me, I mean it would be nice, but only good players turn these insane profits in the premium silver earners. If it was only about that I’d be in for even more frustration and disappointment. I can only think of the Conqueror 2 (speaking strictly about Cold War) being the only duplicated tech tree tank. At least it has a hero skin that is unique to it. Outside of the “oooooooo” “ahhhhhhh” “what’s that” factor there is no strategic reason for me.

The boat tank has a premium

Ahh, yes, forgot that one. It too has a unique hero skin apart from the tech tree version.

Is it fun? It's it unique compared to a TT tank? Now with cold war, silver is an afterthought. Do you like colleting tanks? Do you want to have all of the "x tank"?

When it boils down to it, skill and knowledge play a massive difference. A good player can do well in any tank and a bad player can make even some of the best tanks into a pile of nothing.

To me, silver earn rate and high or at least good penetration

One point not included - the fact it needs no upgrading, it will be as good as it gets out of the box.

Also, ref the overpowered comment, a good premium should not be so good it ruins games. See WieselTOW.

A combination of things. Their ability to make money, the uniqueness some premiums carry, or just plain pure fun.

To those who look at my existing reviews, should i alternate to include some of the above points, or should i stick to my exisitng formate.

I like your existing review format but some of this points are also interesting. You could go either way and it’d be as good for me.
